Chapter Four: Revenge on the Scumbag and the Bitch
Xin Li gave a cold laugh, found the nearest window, braced herself with her arms, and jumped straight down.
Let those two idiots rummage around inside for a while.
There was a bicycle next to the bushes by the villa's main gate; it belonged to those two people.
Xin Li stopped and took out the letters from her spatial storage, tossing them into the bicycle basket.
She knocked on her neighbor's door and then hid.
Not long after, the middle-aged woman came out. There was nothing around her except for a bicycle parked in the corner.
"Aren't those bicycles belonging to Xu family relatives or brothers? Why aren't they sleeping in the middle of the night? They're making a racket."
The woman went back into the house, cursing and swearing.
Inside the house.
"Oh dear, look at this room, it's all empty, there's nothing here."
"Keep your voice down. Why are you making such a fuss? Are you afraid no one will find out we're here to steal something?"
Ji Jiayu and Ji Jiafei covered their faces with black cloths, leaving only their eyes showing, and made their way to Xin Li's room on the second floor. One of them carried a wooden stick, while the other opened the door.
Bang!
The two rushed straight to the bed in the middle, and suddenly pulled back the covers, only to find that there was nothing on the bed.
"What's going on? Where is Xinli?"
"Maybe it got up in the middle of the night. Let's go check somewhere else."
"If we can't find the person, taking the money is fine too, just be careful not to get caught."
The two brothers came hoping to make a fortune tonight, but after checking several rooms, they found nothing left, especially their future sister-in-law's room, where even the bed was gone!
"What's going on? Could it be that Uncle Xu's family has moved away?"
"How could that be?" Ji Jiayu pushed open the door to Xu Changshan's room across the hall, only to find the situation identical to Xu Qingyu's. "Did someone beat me to it?"
"That shouldn't be the case, didn't Uncle Xu and the others just leave not long ago?"
The two brothers searched the house again, but they found neither the money nor the person.
"Why don't we leave? This place is so empty, it's giving me a creepy feeling."
"Then we've come all this way for nothing."
"What else do you think we can take with us from this place?"
Ji Jiayu glanced at the empty room. At that moment, the night wind blew the curtains in the living room, making it even more eerie and frightening.
The two brothers exchanged a glance and then took off running.
As Xinli watched the two ride away on their bikes, she suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs, "Help! Thieves! They're stealing!"
It was past seven o'clock, and everyone was still awake. Hearing the loud screams, they all came out to see what was going on.
"This place has been completely emptied out! What kind of thieves are these, so brazen!"
"Damn it, they didn't even leave us tables and chairs! Is this thief obsessed with money?!"
The families living on this street were all wealthy. Seeing that even the richest families had been emptied out, they couldn't help but worry about their own homes.
Not long after, the police arrived.
To clear herself of suspicion, Xinli put away her wardrobe, curtains, and other items in her space.
Supported by her neighbor, she cried bitterly, "My dad only gave me 30,000 yuan today, which was my dowry! These people didn't leave me a single penny. What am I going to do?"
The neighbor, an older woman, offered her a few words of comfort. Then, remembering the bicycle she had seen in front of her house, she told the police, "I saw a bicycle parked in front of your house half an hour ago. It had a red ribbon tied to the front and patterns on the back. It looked like your brother-in-law's bicycle."
Xin Li's eyes lit up: "Is it Ji Jiayu and the others?"
The neighbor nodded: "Yes, yes, that's them."
The police were alarmed; it turned out to be an inside job.
The amount involved in the case was so large that the police station immediately formed an action team and arrested the Ji brothers and their bicycle early the next morning.
Xinli had already arrived at the Friendship Store and used up all her oil and cloth coupons, since these could only be used locally.
Seeing that the space was already filled with a lot of things, Xin Li didn't stay idle. She rode her bicycle and took a shortcut to the two apartments that Xu Changshan rented.
The book mentions the address of the apartment, which is located west of the red tenement building in the south of the city.
Around eight o'clock, after Xu Changshan's family left, Xin Li put on a hat and quietly slipped inside.
The doors to both apartments were locked. Xin Li took a hair clip from her hair, fiddled with it in the keyhole a couple of times, and opened the door easily.
Upon entering the house, Xinli was surprised by the wooden boxes that were packed full of things.
There are at least thirty or forty boxes here.
Among them were three boxes of books, all ancient famous people's poetry collections in seal script; three boxes of antique calligraphy and paintings; two large boxes of Shu brocade fabrics, kesi and zhang velvet; five boxes each of neatly arranged large yellow croaker gold ingots; one box of silver-plated tableware; and two boxes of necklaces and hairpins made of various diamonds and precious stones.
Enamel vases, ivory ornaments, white jade Guanyin statues, jade, pearl, and coral carvings—these are all displayed outside and cannot be put into boxes.
There were two cameras, an electric fan, a radio, and even a black and white television.
Xin Li was dumbfounded.
This is only one-third of the room.
She opened the innermost large box, and the light coming in from outside the curtains was instantly refracted by the gems on it, so bright it hurt the eyes.
Inside is a gold crown inlaid with rubies, along with matching hairpin earrings—the kind that daughters of wealthy families in ancient times would only wear on their wedding day!
The crown is set with a ruby the size of half a palm in the very center, and is surrounded by thirty or forty other gemstones, each of considerable size, making it very dazzling.
Xin Li couldn't help but click her tongue in amazement. She knew that the Xin family had a rich background, but it was rare to see them this wealthy.
Such a crown is priceless!
With a thought, the crown appeared in her space. She closed the box and continued to pack things away from the room.
The room was filled with valuable items; the furniture was made of huanghuali wood and golden nanmu wood, and seven or eight mother-of-pearl jewelry boxes were stacked together.
The remaining ingredients include precious spices such as agarwood and musk.
Surprisingly, there were several guqin and pipa instruments in the boxes behind, and one of the large boxes contained a small box with a relic inside!
This is something that can't be measured in money!
How did Xu Changshan promise her deceased mother that these things would be her dowry and that he would never touch a single one?
Is he really that untainted?
It seems like they want to tear down all the wooden floors in the house.
Xinli went to the apartment across the street. It was a place where people lived, and there was nothing of value. The furniture and other items were very ordinary.
However, even the most ordinary furniture is still furniture, and she puts it all into her space without keeping a single piece.
I wonder if Xu Changshan and the others will faint from anger when they return here and find that the things have mysteriously disappeared.
Having emptied the two rooms, Xinli walked back satisfied.
As soon as she entered the house, Xu Changshan and the others angrily questioned her, "Xinli, where have you been? Why are all the things in the house gone?"
