Chapter Thirty-Four: Bigger Than Your Face

Chapter Thirty-Four: Bigger Than Your Face

Xin Li didn't understand what He Mingzhou meant.

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with confusion: "What do you mean, there's no need for this?"

Seeing that Xin Li didn't really understand what he meant, He Mingzhou sighed and said, "Although we're married, you don't need to use your dowry to support us. These are all your things; just keep them safe."

Xinli then understood what he meant, and sighed, "What's wrong with that? I've been staying at your house."

"According to your logic, should I also pay some rent?"

He Mingzhou frowned, making the scar between his eyebrows look even more ferocious, but his tone was somewhat troubled, making him seem not only not fierce but also a bit simple-minded.

"That's not what I meant. I meant to say..."

"I understand what you mean."

"But we are husband and wife."

Xin Li leaned closer to He Mingzhou, her smile bright and generous: "I'm your wife now, so what's mine is yours, isn't it?"

"Besides, how could I let my husband go hungry?"

Haven't you heard that saying?

He Mingzhou didn't pay much attention to what Xin Li said.

At that moment, all he could see and think about was that face so close to his.

Xin Li was already beautiful, but upon closer inspection, her face was so perfect it resembled a work of art.

It's so smooth and delicate that you can't even see any pores.

He Mingzhou unconsciously curled his fingers.

He felt that Xinli's face was like a peeled lychee, crystal clear, and he was sure it would be soft, bouncy, and sweet to the touch.

The man's throat tightened, his breathing became heavier, and his mouth felt dry.

"What did you say?"

Taking the opportunity to speak, he stepped back, increasing the distance between himself and Xin Li.

Xinli didn't notice his movements and continued with a smile, "Working together as a team makes the work easier."

"From now on, you'll cook and I'll do the laundry; you'll earn money and I'll support the family. What a harmonious and wonderful family we'll be!"

He Mingzhou's mind was filled with the feel and taste of peeling lychees, so he nodded haphazardly.

The next moment, realizing something was amiss, he raised an eyebrow and retorted, "What do you mean by 'I earn money and you support the family'?"

Isn't earning money all about supporting your family?

"You earn money, give it to me, and I'll use it to support this family. What's wrong with that?"

He Mingzhou: "..."

At first glance, it seems like there's no problem.

Upon closer examination, it's full of problems.

But seeing Xin Li's radiant smile, He Mingzhou didn't bother to correct her.

Now that they're married, there's nothing wrong with the two of them discussing family matters together.

Let her do what she wants.

"I'll give it to you next time I get my allowance."

“The island is different from the outside world; there are many things that are not available there. However, a boat comes every month, and everyone takes advantage of that day to go to the mainland market together. If you want to go, you can save up some food coupons and meat coupons, and then go directly to buy them.”

Xinli nodded: "I understand."

Will you come with me then?

He Mingzhou was taken aback when he met her bright gaze. He hadn't been interested in this kind of thing before, but he changed his mind after all.

"If you have time, I'll go with you."

Xinli cheered, "Yay! Then I can buy lots and lots of things to bring back!"

The joy of hoarding is coming back!

He Mingzhou remained silent for a moment.

So she only saw him as a disposable source of labor.

He Mingzhou couldn't quite describe how he felt. He was a little angry, but he also felt there was no need to be angry with her.

It's like being scratched by a kitten's paw; if you make a fuss about it, you'll seem petty.

If I don't dwell on it, the more I think about it, the more resentful I become.

In the end, He Mingzhou chose to leave home to calm down.

Xinli was unaware of his thought process and only assumed that he had gone out on business. While he was away, she quickly took stock of the inventory and took out everything she could to use later by finding an excuse to get rid of it.

I wrote down all the items that were out of stock, thinking that I could restock them next time I went on land.

She wouldn't tell anyone about the existence of the space, so she had to be careful when restocking. He Mingzhou would definitely be suspicious if he found the quantity was wrong.

So Xinli thought that perhaps in the end she would have to go herself.

However, the ship that departed this month should have already arrived, so we'll have to wait until next month.

After packing her things, she went straight back to her room to rest.

He Mingzhou was gone for quite a while before returning. Xin Li casually asked where he had gone, but He Mingzhou mumbled something she didn't hear, so she simply let it go.

Anyway, the two of them are just friends right now, and they're not really close. It wouldn't be good to pry and make someone angry.

He Mingzhou went out for a walk and calmed down. With nothing else to do, he tidied up the house and then went to make dinner as it got dark.

After the two finished eating, Xinli, feeling bored, asked if there were any entertainment options on the island.

"Entertainment options?"

He Mingzhou pondered the meaning of those words, then chuckled and said, "No."

Xinli was somewhat disappointed.

"If you're bored and can't sleep, you can go for a walk. There are definitely people out there going to the beach at this time of year."

"Beachcombing?"

He Mingzhou nodded: "It's high tide near the island recently, and some waves wash things ashore. Many children collect seashells and other seafood there, which they can bring back for an extra meal."

These things don't exist in the apocalypse. She had seen them on videotapes, but had never experienced them firsthand, so she immediately said she wanted to go and see them.

"Then I'll take you there in a bit."

Xin Li rubbed her hands together excitedly: "Great, great!"

He Mingzhou cleaned up the dishes and went to wash them. Xin Li waited at the door. Soon she saw Zhang Jinhua arrive. She invited Zhang Jinhua to go to the beach together to watch people go beachcombing.

"Oh, I almost forgot that you lived inland before and probably haven't seen these things. I should have taken you to see them before. Last time I heard that Old Deng's family caught a really big crab."

"It's bigger than your face."

"Wow!" Xin Li added emotional support: "I've never seen it before, sister-in-law, shall we go see it together later?"

Zhang Jinhua shook his head regretfully: "I'm busy. I have some things to take care of at home. I came to ask Xiao He for help."

"If I had known you were going to see the beachcombing, I would have come another day."

Before Xin Li could speak, He Mingzhou had already come out of the house.

"What's wrong, sister-in-law?"

He took a handkerchief, wiped his hands clean, casually put it aside, and walked towards Zhang Jinhua.

Zhang Jinhua said that one of the rice containers in his house was leaking.

"It's like it's been burrowed through by rats. Those damned rats are everywhere."

"I'll go fix it for you."

He Mingzhou had lived here since he was a child and was very good at repairs. He followed Zhang Jinhua to the door and then remembered that he had promised Xinli that he would go to see the beachcombing. He looked at her hesitantly.

Xin Li immediately said, "I'm fine, you guys go ahead."

"I'll just stroll over to the beach and take a look by myself in a bit."

He Mingzhou felt very embarrassed to break his promise to Xin Li, so he said apologetically, "I'll come pick you up later."
