Chapter 15: Conversation with Vera (Part 2)

On the way, I saw my former home, thought of my mother sitting by the fireplace, and saw her small clinic. Next to it was the church where I would go to worship every Sunday. I put aside my dignity and rules and prayed to God with devout faith. So, in my current situation, has God abandoned me?

Or have I betrayed my Lord? This European Union woman also believes in this church, but the doctrine makes me laugh: "Girls are angels of the Lord from birth. Angels will save the world. All evil enemies will put down their blades when they see the angels and will devoutly pray to you for mercy. If you pick up the blade and kill those pitiful people seeking salvation, the devil will invade your soul and turn you into a bloodthirsty god of death. I would rather die without touching the blade than become a devil."

This is what the doctrine says. When I was a child, my mother believed in this church and I also believed in my mother. What should I do if this is true?

The truck stopped at the city of Shila, and several other nurses got off the truck and looked at me strangely.

At this time, the driver said to me with a dead look in his eyes: "I advise you not to go to the church recently. No one can predict what will happen next. Be careful not to become the target of public criticism. It will be useless to regret it later. There are no angels here, only demons."

After saying that, the driver drove away. I knew what he said was good for me, and my faith began to waver. Maybe at this time I shouldn't believe in anything or anyone, but I wanted to say goodbye to my mother.

The people in the entire Shila city area have basically retreated. The ladder located in the rear is almost repaired and will be put into use soon, but the entire European Union has already fallen into panic. These soldiers have already spent a lot of energy just to maintain public security, let alone fight the infected bodies.

Now the infected body is getting closer, the riots are getting more serious, and the city is in ruins. I stood in front of the church in this city, wiped the dust off my shoes with a handkerchief, and then slowly walked in.

The goddess statue in the middle is surrounded by lilies. People are worshipping in front of the statue. The priest is a very beautiful young woman wearing church clothes. She holds the teaching book in her slender hands and recites the doctrine very clearly with her rosy lips. The female believers below are confessing with their eyes closed. She is perfect, just like an angel.

I stood aside and waited for them to finish praying. The believers looked at me standing there. Some of them were the nurses just now. One nurse accused me, "She is the god of death. She violated the doctrine and took up the knife to kill those who needed salvation."

Their tone was full of hatred towards me, and other believers also pointed fingers at me, saying they were no different from demons.

At this time, the priest came up to me and asked: "Excuse me, do you want to confess now?"

I looked into her pure eyes and said through gritted teeth, "I'm here to hand in the statue of the goddess and quit the church."

When the believers heard this, they became even more angry and shouted that they wanted to burn me, the god of death, to death, but the priest asked them to be quiet and took me to the inner room.

He turned his back to me and put the textbook on the table. "Did you bring me in here to blame me? Or to persuade me?"

The priest turned his head slightly and smiled. "That's not the case. In this situation, doctrine is often the least effective, and religion is the most hypocritical. Although it may sound a little ridiculous coming from my mouth, the goddess will forgive everyone. Death and demons can also be redeemed. But in my eyes, you are not the god of death, but just a poor child. So I will allow you to leave the church and seek other salvation!"

The priest came towards me and took the statue of the goddess from my hand: "No matter where you are or what you become, may God bless you."

After saying that, he held my face and kissed my cheek. He looked very much like my gentle mother. I cried and hugged her tightly, as if only in this way could I feel forgiveness. He also gently stroked my hair. It was a long time before I left.

The war was becoming increasingly stalemate, and the infected bodies had now entered the city of Hilla. I ignored everyone's gaze and continued to rescue soldiers on the front line.

I entered a heavy machine gun position in a high-rise building. There were five soldiers in total, three of whom were seriously injured. I saw that one soldier had a cut stomach, the second had most of his jaw cut off, and another had half of his body severely corroded. They were basically in a hopeless state.

I can only give them a simple treatment to ensure that they live longer. The other two people are called Daben and Lai.

Daben walked over and said, "You're the Miss Death who's been going viral lately, right? Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Oh, I'm so sorry, but it seems these three people can't be saved."

I said regretfully: "I'm sorry, I couldn't save them."

Big Ben: "Don't say that, Miss. In this situation, religion is bullshit. Survival is the most important thing. Anyway, I think you are very commendable."

Daben laughed innocently.

Lai finished adjusting the machine gun and walked over to me. "Please stay here. If we have no other choice, please take us away with your own hands. It would be our honor to be sent away by the god of death. I hope you can agree."

I nodded. Big Ben said, "Here are some suits of armor. I'll put them on you. We'd feel terrible if you died before us."

After that, Big Ben took out a set of armor and started to put it on me. But after a while, Big Ben stopped because he couldn't put on the breastplate. Lai walked over and punched Big Ben: "Where are you staring at that lady?"

Damen smiled and said, "I thought Miss Vera was small enough to wear it, but I didn't expect to underestimate Miss Vera."
