Chapter 75 Farewell, Difa

Ekeda pointed at the infected body in the distance and shouted frantically to the soldiers fleeing behind him: "You bastards, what are you doing? There are still ammunitions! Why the hell are you running?" As he said that, Ekeda grabbed a soldier's clothes.

The soldier struggled frantically. "It's useless. It won't work on them at all. There are too many of them. Commander, let's retreat! There's still a position. We still have a chance."

Ekeda looked at the panicked face of the soldier in front of him, angrily shook him off and shouted, "You bastards! Senior, how many soldiers are left on the battlefield now?"

The people on the position seemed to have heard Ekeda's call. Only a few dozen people stood up from the artillery platform. The chief priest said solemnly with the electromagnetic gun in hand: "There are only a few dozen of us now. To be honest, we can't hold on at all."

Of the 20,000 troops led by Ekeda, only more than 2,000 were left in just two weeks. Now, nearly 1,000 more have abandoned their positions and fled. Even though encouragement campaigns had been conducted before, these soldiers still fled out of fear. These soldiers were only in their 20s and they were unwilling to die like this. However, the commander who led them was just a young man in his 20s, but he was under tremendous pressure.

Since he was a genius and his parents were honored officers who died in the Great Revolution, Ekeda's rank kept rising until he was in command of the army. It was fine in peacetime, but in this wartime, there were no other senior officers, and the pressure was almost suffocating him.

Ekeda looked helplessly at the electronic energy station in the distance. The roof of the electronic energy station was covered with those damn infected bodies, and his eyes gradually became empty.

The head priest noticed the look in Ekeda's eyes, as if understanding what he was about to do. He slowly walked towards Ekeda, staring intently into his numb eyes, then gently embraced Ekeda. "I'll do it! You can't die yet. Goodbye, Ekeda! You and Tifa must live on."

Before Ekeda could react, he was injected with a sedative. He slowly fell to the ground. "Senior, are you going to end your atonement early?"

The head priest gave a wry smile. "Perhaps! Take the commander and retreat immediately. Don't look back. Run. I'll stay and detonate the electronic energy station to stop them."

The soldiers looked at the chaplain who had taken off his military cap and saluted solemnly: "Got it. I wish you good luck in your military career!"

Then the soldiers dragged Ekeda's body onto the military vehicle and immediately drove to the rear, with the raised dust floating around the chief pastor.

The chief priest stepped onto the rapid-fire turret wearing black military boots, opened the hatch and pulled out the bodies that had been cut open by the infected. The seats he sat on were contaminated by blood and flesh and emitted a foul stench.

The chief priest quickly activated the rapid-fire cannon, and the infected bodies rushed across the position in overwhelming numbers, frantically destroying everything in the position. Dozens of infected bodies directly surrounded the chief priest's artillery position.

The head priest looked at the infected bodies attacking crazily outside the hatch and said, "Don't be impatient! Let's embrace death together. This will free me, right?"

The vibrating gun barrels shook the infected bodies away one after another, and shells nearly ten meters long were shot out from the gun holes and landed in the energy stations that the senior leaders were not allowed to destroy.

In an instant, flames shot up into the sky and spread rapidly around like water waves. Ten seconds after the flames were seen, a huge explosion was heard. Layers of heat waves were set off on the ground, and piles of infected bodies were instantly burned to ashes.

At this moment, the infected destroyed the hatch and opened its dark mouth to the Chief Priest. The Chief Priest looked at the approaching hellfire and said, "Farewell, Tifa! My atonement has finally come to an end."

The infected bodies rushed towards the chief priest in piles, forming a ball. Plasma oozed out from it, but there was no scream. Then in an instant, the flames quickly rushed through the position and continued to spread backwards.

"Open it again quickly, faster, it's too late."

"The explosion is catching up to us."

"Don't panic, we'll be across the river soon, and everything will be fine."

Two military vehicles quickly rushed across a river in the city, then directly broke through the checkpoint and arrived at the last line of defense, the church.

Ekeda forced himself to rush into the church and found that it was in chaos. Most of the escaped soldiers began to rob civilians and rape women.

Ekeda, gun in hand, shouted angrily, "Kill all the soldiers who escaped."

Afterwards, a fierce gun battle broke out in the entire church, and the soldiers who had abandoned their weapons and armor were controlled by the crowd and Ekeda and his men.

Ekeda yelled, "Tifa! Tifa! Where are you?"

I hugged Ruante's body and cried. Ruante had just been shot by the rebels for protecting me. This was the first time someone risked his life for me.

I always thought that this child was just very enthusiastic, and I didn't expect that he would really fight for me. I always thought so naively.

It wasn't until his body stood in front of me that I realized how genuine the feelings of this young man, who had just reached adulthood, were for me.

At night, the bodies of the dead in the church were thrown out. I sat on the carpet in the lobby with a numb expression. Many nuns had died because of today's incident. Maria, Luian, and Holly had all died in the past few weeks. I couldn't hold back my sadness and began to cry. I felt that there was no hope for my future life.

At this moment, Ekeda suddenly emerged from the darkness, grabbed my hand and said, "Tifa, come with me!"

Without even waiting for my response, he dragged me directly to the church basement.
