Song collision
Lin Ting's eyes lit up, and he quickly pulled Zhao Qinfeng aside for a lecture.
When Zhao Qinfeng was first pulled over, he was a little confused, but after listening to Lin Ting's question, he immediately got into the zone and turned to Chen Taining, "Could you please sing the position that Teacher Lin just mentioned again?"
Chen Taining seemed even more nervous than before, and her singing was not as good as the first time.
Zhao Qinfeng demonstrated it to him twice, and then explained the corresponding vocal techniques to him in the simplest and most understandable way possible, and then asked him to try it a few more times.
Although Chen Taining's vocal foundation was average, he had a good talent for singing. With Zhao Qinfeng's guidance, he quickly found his rhythm, and when he sang again, the effect was much better.
"Very good, try your best to perform at this level when you go on stage next time!" Lin Ting said to him.
Chen Taining nodded excitedly.
Lin Ting and Zhao Qinfeng left one after the other.
"Where are you going next?" Lin Ting asked.
Zhao Qinfeng pointed in a direction.
Lin Ting nodded. "Okay, I'll avoid you."
This was actually a requirement from the production team, to ensure that they didn't enter the same practice room at the same time, and to take care of all the trainees practicing there.
Zhao Qinfeng clearly knew this, but he still gave her a sad look.
Lin Ting: "..."
He pretended not to see it and strolled away.
Besides checking on the students practicing in the karaoke room, Lin Ting also went to the dormitory.
He knocked on the door first to confirm if it was convenient to come in and take pictures, and only after receiving an affirmative answer did he lead the photographer into their room.
The trainees live in eight-person rooms with bunk beds. The facilities look new and the rooms are bright.
There were six people in the room, all sitting on the lower bunks, chatting together.
Lin Ting walked over, and they quickly made way for him. One of the students patted the empty space beside him and said, "Teacher Lin, please sit here!"
Lin Ting greeted them with a smile and went over to sit down.
"I remember back in college, we used to sit together and chat like this in our dorm room," Lin Ting said nostalgically.
Indeed, many of those present were of college age, and Lin Ting, being among them, felt even more acutely aware of his own age.
"Teacher Lin looks quite young, so she doesn't seem out of place sitting here!"
"There's a limit to pretending to be young. I am indeed much older than everyone else," Lin Ting quickly waved her hand.
This is a music program, so everyone talks about music, the instruments they've learned, and their favorite songs.
After chatting with everyone for a while, Lin Ting got up, said goodbye, and left their dormitory.
After closing the door, Lin Ting said to the photography teacher, "Thank you for your hard work, photography teacher. Should we be done recording?"
After confirming that there was enough material to record, Lin Ting was free to move around and strolled back to his room.
However, he didn't rest for long. When the time came, he first had dinner with the other mentors, and then immediately went to the recording venue arranged for the evening.
"Wow, this stage is pretty big," Lin Ting remarked softly.
There was a large audience area below the stage. Looking forward from the stage, the empty and neatly arranged seats were dark and unsettling.
Lin Ting only glanced at it briefly, but he was already a little nervous. The students would be singing in such a scene in a moment, and Lin Ting couldn't help but feel a little worried for them.
The trainees entered the venue in an orderly manner. Their seats were arranged behind the instructors' seats and were already numbered for easy identification.
There was no dedicated host on site; the opening remarks and introductions were read by the mentors and judges in turn.
Although the first presentation was called a "presentation," it was actually a "competition." The judges scored the participants, and these scores determined their initial group assignments.
Everyone wants to get a good position from the start and prove their strength in the shortest amount of time.
Lin Ting had the performance order and scoring criteria printed out in advance by the production team beside her, and began her work for the evening.
The scores from the three judges account for 60% of the total score, while the remaining 40% is given by the mentors of the corresponding tracks.
Therefore, Lin Ting is very careful in giving scores. Even though he can talk eloquently when giving comments, he will give the score he deserves, without any room for discussion.
Only in this way can there be true fairness.
The song selection for the singing competition was influenced by the music copyright library that the platform behind the show could easily access, so several groups of contestants "coincidentally" ended up on the same show.
Singing is like dressing; because the content is the same, people tend to compare what's underneath, which means "whoever sings badly is embarrassed."
Of course, there is a possibility that this situation can be resolved by having the two sing in different but equally brilliant ways. Lin Ting sincerely hopes that everyone can sing well, so that even if there is a score difference in the end, it will not be too embarrassing to be outdone.
However, his hopes were destined to be dashed. The differences between the groups of students who had chosen the same songs were quite obvious. Lin Ting gave the scores honestly, but tried to be tactful in his comments, sticking to the facts and not undermining the students' confidence.
Perhaps this was specially arranged by the production team.
The thought suddenly popped into Lin Ting's mind, startling her. The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became that it was true.
However, the last group of students who chose the same song were evenly matched, which made him a little confused.
Lin Ting gave the two the same score, but the scores from other mentors and judges were probably different, so the final score difference between the two was only 0.02 points.
When the results were announced, the whole room applauded.
In the songwriting category... everyone's compositions were slightly immature, but most were very inspired. Although most students had obvious problems with their singing, the overall effect was surprisingly good.
For contestants in the songwriting track, the scores are mostly based on the quality of the song, and a smaller portion on the quality of the performance. However, when it comes to actually scoring, it's difficult to completely separate the two.
Ultimately, the two tracks were ranked together. The production team quickly tallied the scores and created spreadsheets; shortly after the show ended, everyone's scores and rankings were displayed on the big screen, with names, scores, and rankings clearly visible.
Lin Ting didn't really know what the purpose of this ranking would be; at this moment, he was just as bewildered as the other students looking at the rankings.
Zhao Qinfeng raised the microphone, "This ranking is only for your initial sequence. The next assessment will be conducted in reverse order of this ranking. It has no other purpose, so there is no need for you to be nervous."
In fact, Zhao Qinfeng had just received the news from the production team. Although he told everyone not to be nervous as required by the production team, it was impossible for everyone not to be nervous.
Lin Ting breathed a sigh of relief, as there was no elimination mechanism at least for now. The recording lasted until after 11 PM, and after the results were announced, filming came to an end. Everyone left in twos and threes, preparing to go home, wash up, and go to sleep.
Several mentors and guest commentators walked out together, chatting casually.
Lin Ting said, "It seems the program team has arranged basic music theory lessons and tiered vocal lessons. I hope they can gain something from this."
"Scoring is really too difficult. I'm so afraid of being eliminated tonight. I'm always worried about the scoring. The production team is really something, they don't even tell us in advance." Wang Qiong still seemed to be under a lot of pressure.
Listening to everyone's discussion, Lin Ting realized that some students had successfully made the instructors remember their names, while others had not been mentioned at all.
Even in casual conversations after the recording, Lin Ting could still feel the competitive pressure the trainees faced. How to be remembered by the mentors and how to be remembered by the audience were both important and challenging.
He returned to his room, glanced at his work emails briefly, and after confirming that there were no urgent tasks, he closed his laptop, quickly tidied up, and went to bed.
Perhaps due to the busy filming during the day, her physical strength was exhausted, and her energy was also depleted by the emotional ups and downs. Lin Ting quickly fell asleep and slept soundly until dawn.
Their main recording sessions are scheduled for the afternoon and evening, so they can choose to rest more during the day. Lin Ting is used to getting up around 7 a.m., so she got up right away.
He went to have breakfast first, and happened to run into some students who had come to have breakfast together.
"Hello, Teacher Lin!" they all greeted him politely when they saw him.
Lin Ting greeted them with a smile, served breakfast, and found a spot that was neither too close nor too far from the students, so that they wouldn't feel nervous or have any misunderstanding that he was rejecting them.
As Lin Ting ate breakfast, she belatedly realized that the students' classes were all scheduled for the morning.
As the saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm," and Lin Ting felt that scheduling these classes in the morning was indeed very appropriate. However, she was worried that if the recording went on too late, the classes would be less efficient in the morning.
However, this matter would require the production team to handle and coordinate, and Lin Ting simply thought about it briefly. He decided to focus on doing his own job well first.
After he finished eating, he was about to leave when he suddenly saw Chen Taining rush into the restaurant, panting as she took soy milk and steamed buns from the window.
Lin Ting noticed that he was sitting in a corner, far away from the people who were eating together.
He wasn't in a hurry to do anything, so after setting down his plate, he slowly walked over to Chen Taining and asked, "Why are you eating in the corner?"
Chen Taining, still catching her breath, held the steamed buns in her hands through the bag and looked up blankly. "Teacher Lin, it's you... It's nothing, I'm used to sitting in the corner, it's alright, it's alright."
Chen Taining spoke softer and softer, then lowered his head to take a bite of his steamed bun and chewed slowly.
Seeing that he was unwilling to talk, Lin Ting did not press him, but simply said, "Eat slowly, and pay attention in class later. Your sense of language and musicality are both good, and they will improve significantly with specialized vocal training."
Chen Taining nodded. "Thank you, Teacher Lin. I will pay attention in class."
Lin Ting gently patted his shoulder and left the cafeteria.
When filming in the afternoon, Lin Ting arrived at the recording venue early and watched the trainees slowly arrive.
There were no seats provided, so everyone was standing. Lin Ting waited until everyone had arrived, then quickly glanced around and noticed that everyone seemed to have already formed their own groups.
If he remembered correctly, their groups were divided by dormitory, some by three or five people, and some by one person. Lin Ting looked over and found that it was Chen Taining again.
One student asked, "Teacher Lin, why are you the only one here?"
The mentors from both tracks and the other two guest commentators were not present; only Lin Ting stood in front of everyone.
Lin Ting smiled and said, "You'll see them soon. I'll be in charge of the first part of the recording this afternoon."
