Chapter 127 Honesty is Essential in Business

Seeing that the people who had tasted the fruit had all left, Gou Sheng became a little anxious and quickly said, "The konjac fruit is no longer poisonous once it's cooked, it's edible, please don't leave!"

None of them listened and quietly moved away.

Some people who had already bought the items heard that they were poisonous and wanted to return them.

"Who do you think you are, selling poisonous stuff? What a terrible thing to do!"

"Yeah, are you trying to poison us? I don't want it anymore, give me a refund."

"Yes, I don't want it either."

Jiang Yimian knew these people wouldn't believe that konjac wasn't poisonous, so she could only say, "You've all eaten konjac fruit, and you all know it's poisonous? Are you sure this thing in front of you is konjac fruit?"

Upon hearing this, everyone fell silent, and those who had been speaking so confidently were suddenly stunned.

Only a portion of these people had ever seen konjac; the others had only heard that it was poisonous and were afraid of harming themselves, so they didn't want it.

Several people who had seen konjac before quickly said, "That's right, this thing is different from the konjac fruit. We tried it just now and there was nothing wrong with it. It's very fragrant."

The middle-aged man who spoke first said, "Then why is it called 'konjac'? It has nothing to do with konjac fruit, so why is it called that?"

Jiang Yimian glanced at him and said indifferently, "What this thing is called, is it any of your business?"

The middle-aged man was taken aback and was about to retort when the young woman who had initially bought konjac laughed and said, "Boss Zhang, are you jealous that this young girl's stall does better business than your steamed bun stall? Are you even human? You're even stealing business from a young girl."

Upon hearing this, Old Zhang blushed and after a long while, he managed to stammer out, "Stop talking nonsense. I'm just worried about everyone getting poisoned."

The young woman laughed and said, "Stop talking nonsense. If you're worried about others getting poisoned, you might as well put more meat in your meat buns. What kind of meat buns are they if they're all vegetables? And they cost two coins each. Have you no shame?"

These words sparked numerous complaints, with many saying that Boss Zhang was dishonest in his business dealings, selling meat buns for two coins even though there was no meat in them.

Zhang Laoda blushed after being told off and, too ashamed to stay, hurriedly ran back to his stall.

After this commotion, everyone knew that Boss Zhang was jealous of the stall's good business and deliberately came to cause trouble.

But a few people were still a little worried and tentatively asked, "Miss, what is this made of? Are you sure it's not poisonous?"

Seeing everyone looking at her with concern, Jiang Yimian, who had originally planned not to tell them that it was made from konjac fruit, changed her mind.

She said earnestly, "This thing is indeed made from konjac fruit. Raw konjac fruit is indeed poisonous, but it is not poisonous as long as it is cooked. You all tried it just now, right? Did anyone feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

Everyone carefully observed and then shook their heads.

If they had felt uncomfortable earlier, they wouldn't have bought it.

Seeing this, Gou Sheng and Zhao Dashu quickly mustered their courage and said, "Don't worry, we've been eating this for quite some time now. We've been relying on it for the past six months. If it were really poisonous, we would have died long ago. Why would we be here selling things?"

"Yes, don't worry. If there are any problems, just come to us. We'll keep doing this business with you."

Upon hearing this, everyone was relieved.

The group laughed and said, "I'll believe you just because you're telling the truth."

With these words, everyone felt less hesitant. Those who had bought some left with the konjac, while those who hadn't bought any bought some after tasting it to take home and add to their dishes.

The young woman glanced at Jiang Yimian and her companions again, but didn't say anything. She didn't leave either. Only after the items on the table were sold out did she come over and say, "I thought you would lie and say that this stuff wasn't made from konjac, but I didn't expect you to tell the truth."

Jiang Yimian simply said, "Integrity is essential in business."

She can't just keep selling things here without telling people what they're actually eating. While it might solve the immediate problem, it's hard to guarantee that people won't bring it up in the long run, and that would probably cause even more trouble.

Konjac sold well today; it could be a viable long-term business.

The young woman nodded in agreement, said nothing more, and left with her basket.

Seeing that there was no one in front of the stall, Gou Sheng and Zhao Dashu breathed a sigh of relief.

"I was so scared just now. I thought these things wouldn't sell." Gou Sheng said as he handed the money bag in his hand to Jiang Yimian.

Jiang Yimian just smiled, took the money bag and said, "If you can't sell them, just take them home and eat them yourself. There's nothing to worry about."

Gou Sheng chuckled twice, scratching his head, and said, "Didn't I bring this all the way here? It would be too tiring to carry it back, wouldn't it, Brother Da Shu?"

They had patted their chests this morning, promising to sell everything before leaving, but to their surprise, it was Sister Yi Mian who sold everything. The two of them were like quails, almost unable to utter a single word.

Zhao Dashu was a little embarrassed. It was all his fault for making such a boast back then, thinking that selling things would be so easy. Now, he couldn't even utter a single word.

Seeing that the two of them looked a little disappointed, Jiang Yimian just smiled and said, "It's normal to be nervous the first time you sell things. Next time you'll have to come by yourselves."

The two nodded earnestly, secretly resolving to perform better next time.

Jiang Yimian went to return the table to the stall next door.

It wasn't noon yet, and not many people came to eat. The old woman was wrapping wontons at her stall. When she saw Jiang Yimian come to return the table, she simply told her to put it aside.

Jiang Yimian handed over a portion of konjac tofu from her basket and said with a smile, "Thank you, Grandma. This is what we sell. It tastes very good and can be eaten as a dish. Grandma and Grandpa can try it."

When she first arrived, it was breakfast time, and the wonton stall was so busy that she didn't have a chance to bring the konjac over, so she specially saved a portion.

The old lady had a kind face, and although her face was covered with wrinkles, you could still see the charm she had in her youth in her eyes and brows; she must have been a great beauty.

When Jiang Yimian brought the things, she quickly waved her hand, "Girl, it's alright, no need to bring food. This is what you made money from selling, how could this old woman accept it? Next time you need a table, come and help me move things."

This stall is her home. Other vendors usually leave their things with her or borrow things from her. She is basically familiar with all the vendors on this street.

It doesn't make sense that I would want something from a little girl.

Jiang Yimian said earnestly, "If Grandma doesn't accept it, I'll be too embarrassed to borrow things from her in the future."

The old lady had no choice but to accept it.

Seeing that it was still early and guessing that Zhao Da was still busy, Jiang Yimian gave Zhao Dashu and Gousheng thirty coins each and told them to go buy things themselves.

Gou Sheng and Zhao Dashu were too afraid to touch the huge sum of money in each other's hands.
