Chapter 69 Discovering the Hot Spring

"Sister Mian, the land has been almost cleared. We can start planting tomorrow after turning over the soil a bit more."

After Zhao Dashu finished speaking, he glanced at the other person's expression, afraid that the other person would be dissatisfied.

Jiang Yimian glanced at it from afar and saw that the place, which was originally covered with weeds and trees, had become a bare expanse before nodding.

She thought these people would drag their feet for a long time, and she was even planning to give them a hard time tomorrow, but she didn't expect it to be so quick.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Zhao Dashu hesitated for a moment before asking, "Sister Mian, could we have those trees that were cut down?"

Jiang Yimian nodded and casually asked, "What do you want that tree for?"

Zhao Erhei chuckled and said, "We plan to build a few houses and settle down here."

They couldn't get enough to eat or wear outside, and they were constantly worried about their lives. They might as well stay here, where they wouldn't have to worry about food and drink, and they could just do some work.

They were all used to farm work from a young age, so farming was naturally no problem for them.

Jiang Yimian raised an eyebrow, surprised that these people were so understanding. She immediately nodded and said, "Of course. If you don't know how to build a house, you can ask Uncle Dayong and Grandpa Liu for help. You can eat at a few different places."

She had discussed the dinner arrangement with both families beforehand, and neither family was petty. They simply said that they could eat wherever they wanted, and it would only involve adding three more pairs of chopsticks.

Upon hearing Jiang Yimian's agreement, the three of them were overjoyed. They immediately dragged several trees back and placed them in a spot not far from any of their homes, ready to start building the houses as soon as they finished their work.

Thinking about the peaceful days to come, the group felt happy even sleeping in the thatched hut.

Fortunately, the temperature is still high, and the sun is still scorching after the autumnal equinox, so the three of them don't feel cold sleeping in the well-ventilated thatched hut.

Several days passed, and another acre of land appeared in the small depression. Several families worked together to fertilize the land with wood ash and some rabbit and chicken droppings, and then planted wheat and rapeseed before they could finally relax.

Zhao Dashu and the other two finally had time to build houses. With the help of Old Man Liu and Liu Dayong, the three houses were completed in five days.

The families had a meal together, which meant they had finally accepted Zhao Dashu and his two companions.

After spending a few days together, everyone realized that the three men were not bad people; they were just forced into that state by the chaos of the world.

Now that he has the desire to live a good life, everyone feels gratified.

After resting for a few more days, Jiang Yimian took Zhao Dashu and the other two to familiarize themselves with the roads near the cave, and also took them to dig for konjac and yams.

The three of them had eaten their fill in the small depression these past few days, and their spirits seemed much better. They followed behind Jiang Yimian with baskets on their backs, listening curiously.

Jiang Yimian pointed to two groves not far away and casually said, "There are traps in there. The three of you shouldn't go there to dig for wild vegetables. Let Gousheng show you around in a few days."

She was mainly worried that the three of them might rush in and destroy the trap, or even get injured, so she wanted to warn them in advance.

Zhao Dashu nodded repeatedly, focusing intently on memorizing the route.

Sister Mian said that from now on, the three of them will be going out to dig for wild vegetables on their own. He has to remember the way, so that he doesn't end up not finding any wild vegetables and getting lost.

Seeing that everyone was listening attentively without any ulterior motives, Jiang Yimian nodded and led them to the place where she had discovered the konjac last time.

She told the others how to dig for konjac, left Mimi to play with birds, and Jiang Yimian continued to wander around the area.

There are many Chinese medicinal herbs that can be picked at this time of year. She just glanced around and, sure enough, saw several familiar plants.

With its green, pinnately distributed leaves and long stems, it stands out conspicuously among the weeds; this is Angelica sinensis.

Angelica sinensis, also known as Qin Gui or Yu Gui, has roots that can be used medicinally or eaten as a vegetable. It has a sweet taste and is believed to have effects such as promoting blood circulation, regulating menstruation and relieving pain, moisturizing the intestines, and improving blood flow. It has medicinal value and is suitable for everyone, even those in small depressions.

Jiang Yimian took out a small hoe from her spatial storage and carefully dug at the base of the plant to avoid damaging the roots. It took her quite a while to finish digging up the nearby plants.

Seeing that it was still early, she told Zhao Dashu and the others, and then walked a little further away.

As she walked along, she indeed saw a lot of angelica and yam, which she dug up and put into her basket.

Only when her basket was full did she get up, wipe the sweat from her forehead, and prepare to go back.

When we came out, the sun was high in the sky, but now it was already setting in the west. A gentle breeze occasionally swept through the woods, so it didn't feel hot at all.

Jiang Yimian glanced at her surroundings and felt somewhat unfamiliar; it seemed to be a forest she had never been to before. She carefully made a mark, planning to explore the forest thoroughly another day.

Just as she was about to go back, she heard the sound of rushing water, which sounded very close to her.

Seeing that it was still early, she decided to go wash her face.

Following the sound of water, she crossed the woods in less than fifteen minutes. However, upon seeing the scene before her, she froze on the spot.

Not far away is a huge waterfall, with water gushing down from the towering cliff. With the extremely high drop, the water splashes into the stream, hitting the rocks and creating all sorts of sprays.

Not far from the stream was a small pond, with wisps of steam rising from it, looking like a hot spring.

Jiang Yimian was surprised and headed straight for the hot spring.

As soon as you step inside, you can feel the warmth emanating from the water, and the water in the small pond is slowly flowing into the distance.

She reached out to test the temperature of the hot spring water and found it to be just right, which made her even more eager to take a bath.

The thought of her tired body being able to soak comfortably in the water after a long day made her feel relaxed and comfortable.

A struggle raged within her. Jiang Yimian looked at the clear hot spring water, then at the sky that wasn't completely dark yet. After hesitating for a moment, she finally got up and left.

If she were to soak in a hot spring now, not only would her family worry about her, but Zhao Dashu and the other two would also find it strange. It would be better to go back early and wait until evening, when she could secretly soak in the hot spring by herself.

Returning along the same route, Jiang Yimian saw Zhao Dashu and the others still digging for konjac, their baskets already full, with a small pile on the open ground next to them.

It was obvious that the people were working very hard and were not slacking off at all.

Jiang Yimian was very satisfied and said with a smile, "Big Tree, Erhei, Xiaohei, alright, it's getting late, let's go back for dinner."

Zhao Dashu and the other two quickly agreed, happily shouldered their baskets, and each carried a large bag of konjac as they headed home.

They weren't lazy at home; they always worked very hard. But when war came, some of the family members died or were injured, leaving only them behind.

If it weren't for survival, they wouldn't steal other people's food.

After spending these past few days with everyone in the small depression, they have finally rediscovered the feeling of having family. This feeling is hard-won, and they don't want to lose it.

Therefore, they worked exceptionally hard, hoping that the people in the low-lying area would accept them.

No one dislikes a hardworking and capable person, and Jiang Yimian is no exception.

After spending these past few days together, my opinion of them has changed quite a bit.
