Chapter 70 Young people are indeed not afraid of hardship

When the four of them got home, it was already completely dark.

Jiang Yimian piled the konjac and yam in the cellar that Old Liu had dug, and also sent some angelica to the two families, telling them how to eat it before going home.

Before they even reached their doorstep, they heard Zhao Dashu and Zhao Erhei calling out in concern.

"Xiao Hei, what happened? Are you alright?"

"Little Black!"

Old Liu also heard the shouts. He had just come out of the house when he met Jiang Yimian's gaze. The two exchanged a glance and then hurried toward Zhao Dashu's house.

As soon as I walked over, I saw Wang Xiaohei vomiting by the yard, his throat constricted, and he was clutching his neck in discomfort.

Zhao Dashu and Zhao Erhei stood by, somewhat at a loss.

When Zhao Dashu saw the two of them arrive, he seemed to have found his pillar of support and hurriedly said, "Sister Mian, Grandpa, Xiao Hei, I don't know what's wrong with him. He said he felt unwell as soon as he came back. When we asked him, he wouldn't say anything. He just kept picking his throat."

He was perfectly fine walking down the street just now, and suddenly he's like this, as if he's possessed.

Jiang Yimian frowned, and when she turned her head, she saw the konjac that had fallen on the ground. A large piece of the peeled konjac was missing, and there were still teeth marks on it.

She was immediately somewhat helpless, and said, "I forgot to tell you that konjac cannot be eaten raw."

She thought the three of them knew that every household had been serving konjac on their tables these past few days, and she assumed that others had mentioned that konjac was poisonous. Little did she know that everyone actually thought so.

When Old Liu saw that someone else was suffering the same pain as him, he almost laughed. He held it in for a while before coughing lightly and comforting him, "It's alright. I think he only took two bites at most. He'll feel uncomfortable for a few days. It's nothing."

This kid is really fierce! He couldn't stand the tingling sensation after just one bite, yet he still dared to take a second bite.

Young people are indeed not afraid of hardship.

Jiang Yimian found it somewhat amusing to see Old Liu's gloating expression. If the first bite was so painful, would a normal person take a second bite?

She shook her head helplessly, went back and chopped some ginger, mashed it into juice, took some vinegar from her space and poured it in before sending it to Wang Xiaohei to drink.

Wang Xiaohei is feeling much better now. He has already vomited up the konjac he ate earlier. Apart from a slight pain in his tongue and throat, he doesn't have any major reactions.

After drinking the ginger and vinegar water, I felt the burning sensation in my throat lessen.

The pain subsided, and only then did he belatedly realize that his face was burning with embarrassment, especially when he saw the children surrounding him. He felt even more ashamed to face anyone.

He was just curious about what raw konjac tasted like, thinking that if the cooked kind was so delicious, the raw kind must be just as good. Who would have thought that his lips would go numb the moment he took a bite?

At the time, he didn't believe it and thought there was something wrong with his mouth, so he took a big bite and ate it before realizing that there was something wrong with the food, which made him regret it immediately.

Seeing that he was keeping his head down and not saying anything, Xiao Nuan'er quickly stepped forward to comfort him, "It's okay, Grandpa has eaten it before, you'll be fine, but you can't disobey the adults in the future!"

She is very obedient. She will not eat anything that her mother and sister forbid. She was startled when she saw her brother Xiao Hei looking uncomfortable.

Fortunately, she is usually very obedient.

Daya comforted her, "No, it's okay. Just be good from now on."

Wang Xiaohei was a little embarrassed and kept his head down without saying much.

Old Liu was so happy that his beard stood on end. He was finally not the only one eating raw konjac; he couldn't be the only one to suffer that kind of bitterness.

Just then, Zhao Dashu leaned over and asked curiously, "Grandpa, you've eaten raw konjac before! What were you thinking? Was it delicious?"

If he hadn't seen how uncomfortable Xiao Hei was, he would have wanted to try what raw konjac tasted like.

Old Liu glanced at him and said irritably, "If it weren't for my good-for-nothing son, why would I eat this stuff?"

The thought of Liu Dayong's stupid deeds made him furious. He snorted coldly and immediately lost his good mood, turning around and returning to the Liu family home.

A short while later, Liu Dayong's voice came from the Liu family home, begging for mercy, "Dad, I, I was wrong, please don't hit me! I didn't do anything."

The little incident passed quickly, and no one except Old Liu took it to heart.

Zhao Dashu and the others ate dinner at the Jiang family's house that evening.

The dishes were plentiful, and a pot of angelica, wolfberry and badger soup was specially stewed. The taste was delicious and mixed with the medicinal aroma of angelica. Everyone drank the soup clean.

Everyone was very satisfied with the meal, and even Mimi was extremely excited as she ate the badger meat.

The crowd dispersed only after the moon had risen high in the sky, and the families turned off their lights and went to sleep.

Jiang Yimian waited until everyone was asleep before leaving the small depression and heading straight for the hot spring she had discovered during the day.

The night was rather dark in the woods, and Jiang Yimian used a flashlight to find her way.

Fortunately, she had marked the route, so it didn't take much effort.

Until we passed through the woods, the moonlight shone down on the ground without obstruction, illuminating the stream not far away.

Jiang Yimian put the flashlight into her spatial storage, looked around to make sure there was no danger, took off her clothes, and soaked in the hot spring.

The soothing hot water soaking into her skin made Jiang Yimian sigh, somewhat regretting not having come to this forest sooner to discover the hot springs.

Although a bathtub was specially made in the small depression, it was still a bit cramped compared to the hot spring pool, and you couldn't even stretch your legs out.

The warm steam sprayed onto Jiang Yimian's face, like a massage. She closed her eyes comfortably, and could only hear the sound of the waterfall flowing in her ears, which made her relax completely and dissipate much of her fatigue from the past few days.

He was hesitating whether to tell others and bring the other women from Xiaowadi to soak in the water another day, but she dissuaded him from the idea.

Women in this world value chastity highly and would never bathe in the wild, let alone soak in a hot spring like she did.

Although Wang Fengqin always went along with her wishes, she certainly wouldn't have approved if she knew that Wang Fengqin was going to soak in a hot spring in the middle of the night alone in the wilderness.

Just then, she heard a very soft sound of crunching dry leaves, and Jiang Yimian immediately opened her eyes and looked into the woods.

Unfortunately, the dense foliage blocked the moonlight from reaching the woods, making it impossible to see anything clearly.

The sound vanished instantly, as if it were her imagination.

Jiang Yimian frowned and sank to the bottom of the pond.

She wanted to see what kind of demon or monster it was, or perhaps it had been eyeing her all along.

The more he thought about it, the more vigilant he became. That person must be a trained fighter, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to hide the sound of his footsteps.

Time passed second by second, and Jiang Yimian heard the heavy footsteps, which seemed to be coming towards her.

The curved blade in his hand was poised to strike, ready to deliver a fatal blow as soon as the person got close.

The footsteps finally stopped in front of the pond, and Jiang Yimian instantly surfaced, her curved dagger pressed against the neck of the newcomer.

Upon seeing who was in front of her, Jiang Yimian paused, not only failing to retract the dagger in her hand but also moving closer.
