Seeing Mimi grow more and more listless each day while locked in the cage, Xiao Nuan'er felt a little soft-hearted. While Jiang Yimian was picking vegetables in the garden, she whispered to Mimi, "Mimi, don't be sad. Xiao Nuan'er will secretly let you out to play for a while. Don't go catching chickens."
Upon hearing that she could go out, Mimi immediately perked up, shaking her head and standing up from the cage, showing no trace of her previous listlessness.
Xiao Nuan'er felt she had been tricked, but she still felt sorry for Mimi, who hadn't been able to come out and move around for several days. She reached out and pulled out the wooden latch on the cage, and the cage door opened instantly.
Mimi felt all her pent-up frustration vanish in an instant. As soon as she was out of her cage, she ran around the yard happily, clearly having been cooped up for too long.
Seeing that Mimi was excitedly running and jumping around in the yard but didn't seem to want to catch the chickens, Xiao Nuan'er breathed a sigh of relief and played with Mimi in the yard.
Jiang Yimian had noticed the commotion at the door long ago, and was relieved to see that Mimi was just playing with Xiao Nuan'er in the yard.
Fortunately, the punishment over the past few days has been effective, and Mimi has finally stopped being attracted to the chickens in Chen's chicken coop.
Otherwise, she might really have to consider giving Mimi away.
The others naturally breathed a sigh of relief, and seeing that Mimi was just running around in the yard as before, they all looked away.
Just as everyone was busy, they suddenly heard Xiao Nuan'er exclaim, "Mimi, don't run away!"
Everyone was startled by the sound. When they looked up, they saw Mimi running back into the Chen family's chicken coop.
This startled everyone, who dropped what they were doing and rushed to stop it.
However, Mimi ran very fast and pounced into the chicken coop again.
Seeing the chickens startled and flying around again, Jiang Yimian frowned and quickly ran over.
Old Liu arrived late, carrying a broom, and said to Mimi in the chicken coop, "Mimi, what are you doing? If you eat chicken again, believe me, we'll abandon you."
Mimi paused for a moment after hearing this, but still rushed towards the flock of chickens.
Old Liu was startled and grabbed his broom to stop them, but Jiang Yimian held him back.
Old Liu was both angry and anxious. Seeing that he was being held back, he immediately said, "Yimian, don't stop me. Mimi is a wild animal. Her wildness is innate. If we don't send her away, she might eat us when she grows up."
Big worms are no joke; they can swallow a person whole in one gulp.
He didn't want to see the people in the low-lying area suffer.
The peace we finally achieved hasn't been destroyed by anyone, and we can't let it be destroyed by some beast.
Seeing that she couldn't hold them back, Jiang Yimian quickly explained, "Grandpa, Mimi doesn't want to eat chicken, look!"
The group was still somewhat bewildered, and they kept looking towards the corner of the chicken coop.
Mimi pounced forward, scaring all the chickens away, but instead of catching them, Mimi opened her mouth wide and bit at the furry thing in the corner.
A scream rang out, and another creature that was trying to flee in panic was slapped to the ground and knocked unconscious by Mimi.
Mimi immediately pounced and bit it until the thing in her hand was lifeless, then she threw the two furry things in front of everyone.
Its yellow fur was stained red with blood, and blood was still seeping from its long neck. It was a weasel about the length of two arms.
Everyone was shocked. They had thought that the three chickens had been eaten by Mimi, but now it seemed that they had clearly been eaten by the weasel.
If Mimi hadn't been alert and pounced on them, killing the two weasels, all the chickens in Chen's chicken coop would probably have been in trouble.
It's autumn now, the time when weasels swarm out to eat poultry.
As various animals begin to prepare for hibernation or hide, the weasel's food supply has been reduced by more than half, forcing it to risk eating poultry.
Old Liu was a little surprised, but immediately realized that he had misunderstood Mimi. He reached out and touched Mimi, saying, "Grandpa misunderstood you. Don't be angry, Mimi. Grandpa won't abandon you."
Mimi, however, turned its neck away haughtily and obediently rubbed against Jiang Yimian's feet, its eyes full of grievance, as if to say that it hadn't eaten chicken.
Jiang Yimian was a little embarrassed for a moment. She reached out and rubbed Mimi's head before saying, "It's all my fault. I misunderstood you. Mimi is not a bad guy who eats chickens. From now on, Mimi can eat meat every meal and be full. These two bad guys who steal chickens will be left to Mimi."
Upon hearing this, Mimi cheered up and happily went to eat the two weasels she had picked up.
Liu Xiaoyun breathed a sigh of relief as she watched Mimi eat the weasel. "It's all thanks to Mimi. Last time, it probably found the weasel's trail, but I misunderstood. The little guy only eats two weasels if Mimi agrees, so why would it eat chicken?"
Old Liu scratched his head somewhat awkwardly. He had thought that Mimi's wild nature had awakened, but who would have thought that they were the ones bullying Mimi because she couldn't speak.
The little guy is very obedient; how could he possibly pounce on a chicken for no reason, let alone eat it?
With the mastermind behind the murder found, the families who had been on tenterhooks finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Liu Xiaoyun no longer lets the chickens out to find food. Instead, she gathers grass for them every day and lets them out for a stroll in the evening. No one watches them except Mimi. Everyone is on high alert, afraid that a few more weasels will come to steal their food.
Mimi was finally freed from being locked in a cage and was able to eat meat at every meal, continuing to play with the children every day.
To make up for keeping Mimi in a cage, Jiang Yimian would give Mimi extra birds to eat every day.
Fortunately, Mimi has an amazing amount of exercise every day, jumping and running around, so she only looks strong and not fat.
Zhao Xing'er finally finished weaving the cloth, and she sent some to both the Jiang and Liu families, enough to make clothes for everyone.
Jiang Yimian looked at the cloth in her hand and simply smiled and thanked her.
Although the cloth in his hand was crudely made, it was not much different from the coarse cloth sold in the shop, and it usually cost several coins per foot.
Zhao Xing'er waved her hand helplessly and said, "It's just a pity that a young girl like you has to wear this drab cloth like us. It makes you look so old."
Jiang Yimian didn't care much.
These days, she's lucky if she has anything to wear, so she's not going to be picky.
Wang Fengqin also laughed and said, "Xing'er, look at what you're saying. As long as they have something to wear, that's fine. This cloth is perfect for making some winter coats. Although they're not very pretty, at least they'll be warm. When winter comes, it gets even colder in the mountains. How can the children stand it?"
Zhao Xing'er smiled and nodded, but then her face fell again.
She didn't have many cotton-padded coats at home. Her own was torn, and Da Ya's cotton-padded coat was ruined in the wash, so she simply altered her own winter coat into two coats for Da Ya.
Winter is approaching, and we can't do without cotton-padded clothes. She needs to collect some reed fluff recently, as this is the only substitute since we don't have cotton.
