In the underworld, the night is deep and still.
Li Yuheng yawned and idly scrolled through his tablet. His fingertips finally stopped on a novel whose cover shimmered with a dazzling pink glow—"Cold-Blooded Bodyguard: The Young Lady's Colorful Love".
The book's title and synopsis, with their strong old-fashioned flavor, successfully piqued his interest, which was a mixture of curiosity and critical thinking.
"Tsk, let me see how outrageous it can be." He muttered as he clicked on it.
Half an hour later, Li Yuheng, clutching his stomach which ached from laughing, tossed the tablet aside and fell asleep while hugging Shu Bai.
Then, he woke up.
Or rather, he woke up from a dream.
When Li Yuheng woke up, he found himself lying on a luxurious bed large enough to accommodate ten people, surrounded by sparkling crystal walls.
He walked to the mirror and fell silent.
In the mirror, his originally arrogant black hair was slowly changing from an arrogant gay purple to an even more arrogant flashy pink, depending on his mood.
Gradient hair?
Li Yuheng: "...Wow. As expected of me, even my hair color change is so unique."
He admired himself in the mirror for a long time, then slowly raised one eyebrow, trying to create a wicked curve, and said the classic line in a deliberately low voice: "Heh, interesting."
The colorful strands of hair in the mirror remained perfectly still.
"...It seems the emotions weren't quite there yet."
He stroked his chin and decided to accept this bizarre premise.
Okay, so this is a Mary Sue world, huh?
Size... no, young master, right?
Bodyguard, right?
Is your hair seven-colored?
Since we're already here...
Li Yuheng cleared his throat and called out towards the bedroom door in a deliberately raised but undisguisedly excited tone:
"Shu Bai! My bodyguard! You have three seconds to appear before me!"
The moment the words left his mouth, the carved wooden door to the bedroom was silently pushed open.
Shu Bai stood there.
The two small moles under his right eye remained, and his pure black eyes paused almost imperceptibly when he saw Li Yuheng's colorful hair.
Li Yuheng was inwardly laughing wildly, but he tried his best to keep a straight face and walked forward with what he thought was a cool and domineering gait.
Stopping at extremely close range, he suddenly reached out and grabbed the neatly tied tie of the man, pulling him towards him.
He raised his chin, employing all his acting skills to perform a scene he'd learned from books, his eyes trying to charm: "Bodyguard, you..."
He paused, seemingly recalling his lines.
Shu Bai let him tug at her tie without changing her breathing rate, and just watched him quietly.
Li Yuheng finally remembered, and he lowered his voice, trying to sound magnetic: "You've successfully caught my attention."
Shu Bai remained silent for two seconds, then his shoulders began to tremble slightly.
He abruptly turned his head away, unable to hold back any longer, and burst into laughter, tears welling up in his eyes.
Li Yuheng's hand, which was gripping his tie, froze in mid-air: "...What are you laughing at?"
Is this funny?
What is his question?
Shu Bai finally managed to stop laughing, raised her hand to wipe the corner of her eye, and looked at him with a teasing look in her eyes: "Li Yuheng, you don't sleep at night, you just dream about this kind of thing?"
Li Yuheng didn't loosen his grip on the tie; instead, he pulled the man closer: "So what? The dream material library is being updated, is that not allowed? Besides, bodyguard Shu Bai, your reaction is wrong. According to the script, you should be suppressing your emotions, breathing rapidly, and then saying in a hoarse voice, 'Young Master, please have some self-respect.'"
Shu Bai leaned slightly as he pulled her, the smile still lingering in her eyes: "That's hilarious. You sent me a few coins in your dream, is that worth me acting out this?"
Li Yuheng raised an eyebrow, loosened his tie, and instead grabbed the back of his neck: "Salary? Talking about money is so vulgar."
He leaned closer, his breath brushing against her pale earlobe. "Is a young master's kiss enough for you as a reward?"
Shu Bai's ears burned from his breath, and she turned her head away slightly: "Is this all the price a young master's kiss is worth?"
He pressed his fingertips against Li Yuheng's chest, keeping a half-inch distance, and said, "Then I'm at a loss."
Li Yuheng chuckled softly, then took the opportunity to gently bite his earlobe: "Not enough? Then pay in installments, with interest accruing... until you tell me to stop."
Shu Bai took a breath, then slid her hand down to give him a light pinch on the side of his waist: "The script didn't say that the young master could pay his bodyguards like this, did it?"
“It’s changed now.” Li Yuheng tightened his grip on his lower back, pressing him into the fluffy blankets. “My dream, my rules.”
Shu Bai, her hair disheveled and black, looked up at him from beneath the silk, her small mole under her right eye trembling slightly with her breath: "Okay."
He suddenly hooked the button on Li Yuheng's pajamas and yanked it, "Just in time to see if Young Master's acting is realistic enough."
Don't worry.
…
"Bodyguard Shu Bai, isn't it uncomfortable to button your clothes up so tightly?"
"I'm afraid the young master won't be able to control himself."
"...Who do you think you're underestimating? I have excellent self-control."
"Oh. Then what is this?"
"This is a normal reaction. Unlike some people who clearly want to argue back."
"Young Master, you talk too much..."
"You find it noisy? Fine, then let's find another way to communicate."
…
The crystal chandelier by the bedside swayed and scattered light.
Li Yuheng suddenly stopped.
“Wait, there’s supposed to be a line in the script now.” He sat up. “Say, ‘You’re the most special person I’ve ever met.’”
"What kind of terrible books have you been reading..." Shu Bai squinted her moist eyes and kicked him, "Young Master, it's time to wake up from your dream."
Shu Bai's kick was not very forceful, and Li Yuheng grabbed his ankle instead.
"Awake?" Li Yuheng pressed him back down while he was lying on his back. "What's the rush? We're in the middle of an exciting part. According to the script, you should be saying 'no' with tears in your eyes right now."
"...Are you sure you want to rehearse your lines at this time?"
"Do you understand the importance of dedication? Villains die from talking too much, while protagonists win by having a lot of screen time."
Shu Bai tilted her head back, panting and laughing, then ran her fingers through his hair and yanked it sharply.
Li Yuheng looked up in pain, only to meet his smiling eyes.
Those two small moles became especially noticeable when they were aroused, like two embers falling in the snow.
"Young Master, I bet you're thinking to yourself again, 'That mole is fucking alluring,' right?"
Li Yuheng's eyes dimmed.
You were right.
He always enjoyed the feeling of being in control, but Shu Bai always managed to pinpoint his hidden thoughts with precision.
The thrill of being seen through is far more exciting than a Mary Sue drama.
"Then you guessed wrong. I was thinking... your mouth is still cute when you're plugged up."
"...!! Pretending to be dead... Oh my god... You should shut up... You're the one who should be shutting up..."
"Hey, we're different. I'm cute even when I don't shut up."
