Chapter 185: Do I Need a Reason to Be Good to You?

Chapter 185: Do I Need a Reason to Be Good to You?

Looking into the longing and uncertainty in his eyes, Sang Qian's throat tightened slightly.

"A mother and child are connected at heart, so of course my baby and I feel the same way."

I worry about you just as much as they worry about you.

Jin Changyu understood the subtext in that sentence.

Looking into those moist almond-shaped eyes, his own eyes reddened. Before he could speak, he heard her say:

"Jin Changyu, thank you."

Sang Qian was truly grateful to him. "Thank you for saving my second uncle and the people in the village."

She went to see her second uncle while he was still unconscious.

My second uncle's left foot was hit by a stray rock, but fortunately it wasn't serious; it was considered a minor injury.

Two other villagers sustained more serious injuries, but they received timely medical treatment and are currently out of danger.

In this accident, all those in distress were safely evacuated.

The second uncle said that although the local authorities immediately sent people to rescue them, the incident happened suddenly and the local search and rescue facilities were outdated, which made it impossible to find the trapped people quickly. It was the search and rescue team that Jin Changyu invited that found them in time with advanced and professional detection instruments.

The situation was very dangerous. They had just been taken away from the area where they were trapped when a second landslide occurred.

If Jin Changyu and his group had arrived ten minutes later, they would most likely have been buried alive in the rocks.

While Jin Changyu was helping his second uncle to evacuate, a large tree fell from the steep slope. He pushed his second uncle away immediately, but he couldn't dodge in time and was hit.

Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet and protective clothing at the time.

I don't even want to think about what would have happened if my second uncle had been hit...

"Jin Changyu..."

Sang Qian looked at him with tears in her eyes, a thousand words welling up in her heart, but she choked up and couldn't speak.

I felt grateful, but even more heartbroken for him.

Human life is so fragile in the face of natural disasters.

Even if he was wearing protective gear, no one could have predicted the consequences of such a huge object falling on him.

He risked his life to save her.

"Don't cry, sweetie."

Jin Changyu couldn't bear to see her like this, so he gently wiped away her tears and comforted her with a smile, "Aren't I perfectly fine now?"

He was glad that he had protected his second uncle.

She cried like this when something happened to her; if something happened to her second uncle, how heartbroken would she be?

"Don't cry, okay?"

Jin Changyu couldn't help but reach out and pull her into his arms, gently stroking her back to comfort her.

"If you keep crying, it makes me look incredibly incompetent, you know?"

Sang Qian, who was sobbing in his arms, paused for a moment and looked up at him in confusion.

In her eyes at that moment, he was a superhero; how could he be incompetent?

Jin Changyu lowered his gaze to meet those misty eyes. "I did all this because I didn't want to see you sad, but if I still make you cry, then all this suffering has been for nothing?"

He raised his hand and stroked her face, his thumb caressing the corner of her moist eyes. "Being good to you comes from my heart, not to make you grateful to me, and certainly not to make you cry."

Sang Qian's heart trembled violently, and then she heard him sigh. She said with some annoyance, "I promised you that I would bring your second uncle to stay with you for the New Year, but now... I'm afraid we won't be able to celebrate the New Year as planned."

Yesterday, he received a call from Aunt Li on the street. Aunt Li said she was crying, and he felt so sorry for her.

Although she didn't say it, she had been in a good mood recently, busy every day with things for the New Year, New Year's goods, food, and games, down to the smallest detail. She even secretly planned out her itinerary for the few days of the New Year in her notebook.

That day, he inadvertently saw the plans she had made on her bedside table, which included him and his second uncle in their daily schedule.

How much she must be looking forward to spending the New Year with them.

She didn't know that something had happened to her second uncle; she cried so much just hearing that he was going on a business trip.

Jin Changyu dared not imagine how disappointed and upset she must have felt at that time.

"You're lying in the hospital, and you're still thinking about these things?"

Sang Qianzhen didn't know what to say to him.

What an idiot.

"As long as you and your second uncle are safe and sound, it doesn't matter where we celebrate the New Year."

Even in a hospital.

The word "we" filled Jin Changyu with joy. "Yes, you're right."

“But…” Sang Qian remembered something, “I haven’t told your family about the accident that happened to you here.”

When she heard about his accident this morning, she panicked and was so worried about him that she forgot to tell the Jin family.

She only remembered this matter after she came here and confirmed that he was alright.

But then I thought we should wait until he wakes up and see what he wants to say to his family.

"Should we call Grandma now and tell her?"

Jin Changyu shook his head, "I don't need to tell my family about my injury. Just say... we changed our plans. We're going back to your hometown this year to spend the Spring Festival with your second uncle, and then we'll go back to Beijing after the New Year."

"But...you've had such a big incident, is it really okay not to tell your family?"

Jin Changyu smiled at her, "It's nothing serious. Besides, even if I told them, there's nothing they could do except worry them more, right?"

Looking at him, Sang Qian felt increasingly guilty and distressed. She lowered her head and said, "Are you afraid they will blame me, so you're hiding it from them?"

"No, don't overthink it." Jin Changyu rubbed her head. "I just think... it's the New Year, and we shouldn't spoil their New Year's mood."

Seeing that she was still looking down, he cupped her face in his hands and made her look up at him.

“I will talk to them about this myself. If they call to ask you, just tell them that the decision to go back to your hometown for the Chinese New Year was made by me.”

Sang Qian gazed at the man's gentle yet handsome face, blinking her long, moist eyelashes. "Jin Changyu, why are you always so good to me?"

She caused him to get injured and unable to return to the city for the New Year, yet he still took the blame upon himself.

Jin Changyu looked at the face he was holding in his hands. The eyes were watery and round, as if they were wet with dew. The skin was fair and tender with a bit of plumpness. For some reason, he had an urge to kiss it and suck on it.

Jin Changyu's Adam's apple bobbed slightly as he suppressed the turmoil in his heart, and he simply pinched her soft, plump cheeks lightly.

"Do I need a reason to be good to you?"

Su Luoluo pushed open the door and entered. She looked up and saw the two people sitting intimately on the bed. The man, who should have been lying unconscious, was holding the woman's face in his hands, looking at her with deep affection.

Sang Qian was facing away from the door, so Su Luoluo couldn't see her expression from her angle, but she could sense that Sang Qian didn't reject Jin Changyu's intimate actions.

Jin Changyu looked up and saw her, released Sang Qian, and nodded politely to her, "Miss Su."

Su Luoluo stood there awkwardly and coughed twice. "How about... I excuse myself?"

She hadn't expected Jin Changyu to be awake, so she didn't think to knock on the door first.

Sang Qian turned around and, upon hearing this, quickly said, "No need."

"Luo Luo, is something the matter?"

Su Luoluo walked in and said, "The doctor said that Second Uncle can be discharged from the hospital. He can just go home to recuperate from his foot injury. I came to tell you that Dahai will take Second Uncle home in a little while."

Before Sang Qian could speak, Jin Changyu said first, "Then I'll have to trouble Dahai."

"Please take Qianqian back with you."
