sleeping
Upon arriving at the Su family home, Su tried to open the car door, but Su Wenxie refused to get out. Furious, she opened the door for him and said in a harsh tone, "Get out!"
An Chi looked at Su Wenxie with an expression that said it had nothing to do with him.
Seeing his gaze, Su Wenxie gave him a sheepish stern look, "What are you looking at!"
He got out of the car and followed Su Yao into the Su residence.
Without Su Qingye's house, even Su Wensheng rarely came back. He seemed to prefer staying outside. But Su didn't care about all that. Since she was back, she should take care of things.
"Butler, please call my dad and tell him that if he doesn't come back today, he shouldn't come back at all."
The housekeeper is a man with his own thoughts. When Su Qingye was around, he listened to her. Now that Su Qingye is gone, he naturally needs to find someone to rely on. Considering everything, Su is still the most reliable.
The butler carried out the task as Su had instructed.
Su Yao sat on the sofa in the living room on the first floor, legs crossed, with an unpleasant expression on her face, glaring angrily at Su Wenxie.
"Don't you want to explain, Su Wenxie?"
There's nothing to explain.
Su Wenxie stood in front of her, head down, his face full of dissatisfaction and embarrassment.
"Alright, since there's nothing to explain, I'll go check the surveillance footage. If you have any problems, you should calm down and earn some money yourself. After all, you're so capable, Young Master Su."
He sensed a threat in Su's words and panicked, but still looked reluctant. "Sister, I didn't mean it. It's just that the guy surnamed Liu said some really nasty things."
"So you hit someone? How old are you? You even resorted to violence? What if the police had taken you away if I hadn't intervened today?"
"Then...you'll have to go to the police station to bail me out," he tentatively suggested.
Su Yao's face turned ashen upon hearing this, as if she'd just eaten a can of herring. "How dare you say that!"
“You hit someone too…” Su Wenxie said cleverly, but every word he said was a gamble on Su Yao’s bottom line.
Su rubbed his temples, feeling that talking to Su Wenxie was stirring up the little alcohol he already had, and his head was throbbing: "I know how much force I use when I hit people. I said it was a fracture, but it was just a dislocation. A kick to him wouldn't have caused any serious injury. But you? You beat him until he bled!"
"I'll be more careful next time, but how did you manage to dislocate the bone, sis?"
Suddenly feeling like she was talking to a brick wall, Su decided to give up on communication and issued a firm order: "From now on, no hitting anyone! If anyone insults someone, call me first. No hitting! If there's any more fighting, unless the other party lays a hand on you, you can't move. Do you understand?"
"Okay, sis," Su Wenxie replied, head bowed.
With a wave of the back of her hand, Su Yao finally said calmly, "Go and rest, you've had a long day."
"Sis, are you sleeping at home tonight?"
"I don't know yet, we'll talk about it when the old man comes back."
Su Yao propped her head up with her hand, lay on her side on the sofa, and closed her eyes.
When An Chi entered the room, he saw this scene. After thinking for a moment, he decided to clean up the mess for her. Just as he was about to carry her to the bedroom, Su opened her eyes and gently pushed him away, saying, "No need, I'll wait for Su Wensheng to come back."
An Chi gently pulled her close, speaking softly, "You must be very tired today. You can talk to him tomorrow. Go to your room and get some sleep."
As Su's mind gradually cleared, she looked at him with a puzzled expression, "Why didn't you go back? Why did you come in?"
“The housekeeper opened the door. I was worried you might want to go home to sleep tonight, so I waited in the car for a while, but you didn’t come back, so I was worried and came to check on you.” He half-squatted down next to her.
"Then you should go back first. Thank you for your hard work today." Su smiled apologetically.
An Chi didn't say anything else, only asking, "Do you want to stay here?"
He knew that since Wang Mingfei passed away, Su Yao had rarely slept in the Su family mansion. Whether she wanted to or not, she probably didn't even have a regular bedroom there.
"I'll take a taxi tonight." Her head was still a little dizzy.
He helped her up. "Then I'll be your ride-hailing driver. Go to sleep if you want. I'll tell you when Mr. Su comes back."
An Chi still respectfully addressed him as "Old Su," and no matter how much Su Wensheng did, as long as Su acknowledged him as his father, he would respect him for that long.
Su opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could speak, Su Wensheng pushed the door open and entered.
"What exactly do you want, you wicked girl!" The question was heard before anyone else could hear it.
An Chi stood up and shielded Su Yao behind him.
Su Yao also got up from the sofa, pulled An Chi, and faced Su Wensheng directly.
"If you're angry because I gave your youngest daughter and lover away, I don't accept that. I gave her a choice, and she chose twenty million, not you. If you're angry because I handed over the Su family business to you, I still don't accept that. Neither you nor Grandma succeeded, and I don't believe I, this 'wicked daughter,' can succeed either. Besides, without Bai Lutong, the Su family might be bankrupt by now. If you're angry because I called you back from who-knows-where in the middle of the night, I still don't accept that. As the current head of the Su family, you neglect your household and repeatedly bring shame upon the Su family. Not to mention Grandma, even I find it laughable. Or are you still seeking revenge because I took the Su family business from you back then..."
Su Yao approached Su Wensheng step by step, trying to make him lose all composure.
After she finished speaking, she patted the invisible dust off Su Wensheng's body. "Dad, you should have admitted that you were not as skilled as others back then. The Su family would have collapsed long ago without me, instead of talking about my faults to everyone you meet. I don't believe you don't know about what happened today. If something like this happens again, I won't blame Wenxie for being ignorant. It's all just a story from a ghost story. Grandma is dead. You don't need to pretend anymore, Dad."
After saying that, she pulled An Chi and pushed open the door to leave.
"Where to?" These were An Chi's first words as he got into the car.
Su turned her face from the window to him. "Either is fine, you choose. Today isn't over yet, Anchi."
She reminded him that his dating was still going on—a reminder, but also a hint.
An Chi did not reply, but simply started the car and drove away.
Once on the road, the brightly lit streets were dotted with cars, which looked like stars scattered across the sky.
As Su Yao passed by the buildings of varying heights, her eyes suddenly lit up.
Su pointed to a building and said, “Do you know? That building was originally named after my mother. It was built by my maternal grandfather. After my mother passed away, he sold everything he could and moved abroad, including this building. I originally wanted to buy this building, but my grandfather said he wouldn’t sell it to the Su family.”
"Now? Can't we buy it?"
“Now I can’t buy it even if I wanted to. The land has been given to the government. If I wanted to take it back, I would have to use some underhanded methods, which is troublesome. I would have to argue with the officials, so I gave up.” She explained slowly, “Actually, only I know that I am a person who gives up easily. Managing the Su family business is too difficult, so I gave up. Dating Bai Lutong is too tiring, so I gave up… Doesn’t it feel like the image of me you have of me has been overturned?”
"No, trying and then choosing to give up shows self-awareness and is considered smart."
Su laughed, "Then why didn't you try pursuing me? Why didn't you give up?"
"Because I know my own limitations, I don't know if you will like me, but I like you quite a bit."
At a traffic light, at an intersection, An Chi stopped his car. A clear female voice came from beside him; it was a cappella, without any accompaniment or instruments.
Standing at the crossroads
How do I get there?
All I can do is look back.
...
You understand that I have rainy days.
You understand that I'm sometimes timid.
Those moments when the heavy rain fell in the past
I suddenly realized
..."
Su forgot some of the words and replaced them with "humming". An Chi looked at her. She was looking out the window. There was no rain, but it felt like there was rain, a rain that belonged only to her.
An Chi's voice interrupted, "Are you singing the song you owe me?"
She turned to him, their eyes met, she nodded, and continued humming, but didn't turn her head away again.
An Chi crossed the traffic light and hummed along softly, but he didn't sing it out loud or cover up Su Yao's voice.
At this moment, it became a rainy day that belonged only to them.
Anchi took her to a flat in the city center.
He and she went upstairs together.
According to Su Yao's plan, there might be a "battle" to fight today, and it's uncertain whether he'll be able to get up tomorrow.
After entering the room, Su watched him head straight for the kitchen. After thinking for a moment, she went into her room to take a shower.
After she finished showering, she came out in her pajamas. There was a glass of honey water on the bedside table. An Chi came in from outside, still wet and wearing only his underwear. He pointed to the honey water and said, "It's for sobering up. Although the alcohol in that glass of wine isn't very strong, it's still better to drink it to avoid feeling dizzy tomorrow."
Sue sat on the edge of the bed, drank some water, and then lay down on the bed.
When An Chi lay down next to her on the other side, her heart couldn't stop pounding.
She took a deep breath, thinking that it was just doing it once, it wasn't a big deal, and it wasn't like she hadn't done it before.
An Chi was still holding her.
This time, Su should turn around and face him, waiting for his next move.
He suddenly seemed flattered, smiled and kissed Su Yao's forehead, touched the tip of her nose, hugged her a little tighter, and then closed his eyes.
Su, who had been waiting for something even more intense to happen, pinched his arm when he stopped moving.
"What's wrong?" he asked, looking at her.
Su Yao was suddenly amused. "Are you really not aware, or are you pretending not to know?"
He looked at her and thought for a moment, "I don't know, but I don't want it to be like this, Su Yao. I want to spend my whole life with you. There's no rush. Let's get some sleep."
"Then I'll never agree to your request, but you can hold me and sleep with me for the rest of your life, Anchi."
"Okay." He agreed with his eyes closed, as if he couldn't understand the sarcasm in her words at all.
"Hey, we're both adults." She nudged him.
An Chi was still pushed open by her, his face full of helplessness but also happiness. "Being an adult doesn't mean we can do whatever we want. I'm the kind of person who takes responsibility, not someone like you who doesn't. If I sleep with you tonight, we have to get a marriage certificate tomorrow. Can you do that, Su Yao?"
Speaking of "irresponsible," her tone was full of resentment. Su Yao suddenly remembered the diary in the study that said, "Su Yao is irresponsible, a scumbag woman." "Okay, okay, Chun! Go to sleep."
She even emphasized the word "pure," but An Chi closed his eyes again upon hearing it, looking like he was about to fall asleep.
