Chapter 60, Please, don't let her down.
Wen Hanyun nodded, put away her phone, and said, "Okay."
Should we trust Yansheng?
How did they come together? He understood her persistence and her preferences, and she understood his helplessness in the face of family struggles.
The trust between them cannot be easily broken by a single ambiguous photograph.
Perhaps there were some special circumstances, or perhaps it was a deliberate snapshot taken out of context.
Wen Hanyun put her phone into her bag and zipped it up, as if sealing away the feelings she didn't know how to deal with.
"Check the instruments one last time, we're going on stage right away," she shouted to her teammates not far away.
"Received, just tried it, no problem." Liu Changye gave an OK sign.
Wen Hanyun walked to the side of the stage and lifted a corner of the curtain to look at the audience. The seats were already full, the lighting was dim, and she could only see a blur of moving figures and glowing signs. She exhaled a breath of stale air, clearing her mind of all distractions, leaving only one thought in her mind:
Make this performance a success.
"Sister Wen, let's go on stage." Qin Ling took her hand. "Don't think too much, let's cheer each other on."
Wen Hanyun turned to look at the encouragement in her eyes and felt much more at ease. "Let's go."
The lights suddenly came on and shone on the center of the stage.
Enthusiastic cheers erupted from the audience as Wen Hanyun and the band members walked onto the stage and took their places.
Qin Ling walked to the microphone, adjusted her posture, and flashed a big smile: "Hello everyone, we are MOON'HEART, it's nice to see you again!"
The cheers grew louder. Wen Hanyun closed her eyes, raised her hand to signal, and the music started playing.
Her gaze swept across the audience below, looking at the spectators waving glow sticks, and seeing the smiles and anticipation on their faces. The gloom in her heart seemed to be dispelled by the enthusiastic atmosphere.
Qin Ling performed exceptionally well; her clear voice blended perfectly with Wen Hanyun's guitar playing and the other teammates' performances.
After the first song was sung, the applause from the audience lasted for a long time.
Next came the voting and song request segment, which went very smoothly. Most of the audience sang along to the two popular songs selected by the live vote, and the atmosphere gradually reached its climax.
During the intermission, the group went backstage to drink water and touch up their makeup. Qin Ling pulled Wen Hanyun aside and asked, "What happened to you just now? Don't tell me it's because of your health. Bai Ge just told me that someone texted you. It's definitely not as simple as you feeling unwell."
"Sister Wen, is it because the fans aren't reacting well to the band changing their lead singer?" Qin Ling asked, clinging to her arm. "Just tell me, so we can share the burden if there's any negative news, okay?"
“No…” Wen Hanyun picked up her water glass, took a sip, remained silent for a few seconds, then took out her phone from her bag, unlocked it, and handed it to Qin Ling. “Take a look for yourself.”
Qin Ling took the phone, and the moment she saw the photo, her face darkened: "Is this Yan Sheng? Is this photo real? When did you receive it?"
“Just now, after the rehearsal, I received an anonymous email with no text.” Wen Hanyun’s voice was calm. “I don’t know who sent it.”
"Could it be that someone deliberately posted fake photos to try and sow discord between you two?" Qin Ling handed the phone back to her, tentatively reassuring her, "I don't think Yan Sheng is that kind of person, but if he really does something to betray you, I will definitely not let him get away with it!"
Wen Hanyun nodded. "I know."
She had her own guesses: could it be Yan Mingchong, Yan Chengyuan, or Old Master Yan?
Everyone in the Yan family dislikes her. Maybe the photo is fake, and they're trying to distract her while Yan Sheng is away from the country, causing misunderstandings between them.
"So what do you plan to do?" Qin Ling asked.
“Let’s finish the performance first,” Wen Hanyun said firmly. “Whoever did it, if someone did it on purpose, releasing photos at this time is probably an attempt to sabotage the performance.”
We cannot let him succeed.
"I'll figure out what to do after the performance is over."
“Yes, you’re right,” Qin Ling nodded. “Don’t worry, Sister Wen, no matter what the truth is, I will always support you.”
Wen Hanyun smiled, feeling a warm glow inside.
Qin Ling has always been very kind to her. From the time they met until now, she has been willing to help her with everything, big or small.
After the break, they returned to the stage.
Wen Hanyun bowed to the audience, took the microphone from Qin Ling, and said, "Our next song, 'Starry Road,' is a new song dedicated to everyone who perseveres for their dreams!"
Qin Ling could sense Wen Hanyun's emotional changes and cleverly responded to her melody. The four of them cooperated seamlessly on stage.
The audience below the stage was also infected, and various colored light boards and glow sticks intertwined, forming a romantic sea of stars.
As the performance ended, a brief silence fell over the entire venue, followed by thunderous applause. The band members bowed together in thanks, again and again, until the applause gradually subsided.
As the group walked off the stage, the backstage staff congratulated them.
Qin Foye arranged a flight for them for the next day, so they could go back to the hotel and get a good night's rest. Wen Hanyun got into Qin Ling's car and left the venue.
As night deepened, the number of pedestrians on the streets gradually decreased.
"Want to come to my room?" Qin Ling escorted Wen Hanyun to the door. "Are you alright? I'm a little worried about you being alone."
"No need, I want to be alone for a while." Wen Hanyun smiled. "Don't worry, I'm fine."
"Alright, my room is on this floor too," Qin Ling said, not insisting any further. "Call me anytime if anything happens."
"Okay." Wen Hanyun nodded and closed the door.
She inserted the room key, didn't turn on the light, and went straight to the sofa to sit down.
The light from the screen shone on her face as she opened the photo again and examined it closely.
In the photo, the woman's back view is very slender, and apart from a small chin, no other features can be seen.
She didn't know the circumstances under which the photo was taken, nor who the woman was. But she firmly believed that someone as proud as Yan Sheng would never lie.
In other words, all we need to do now is call Yansheng to find out the truth.
Wen Hanyun stood up and walked to the window.
The night view outside the window is beautiful. G City, a bustling city that never sleeps, is illuminated by flashing neon lights, which dimly light up half of the sky.
She tapped on Yansheng's number in her contacts, took a deep breath, and pressed the dial button.
No matter what he said, she believed him.
So please, Yansheng...
Don't let her down.
