Chapter 61, I probably haven't been this happy in a long time.
But the more she thought about it, the tighter she became.
She feared that everything she had was an illusion, and that she would fall into the shadow of betrayal again.
The phone rang three times before being answered.
Just as Wen Hanyun was about to speak, a gentle female voice came from the receiver:
"Hello?"
At that moment, Wen Hanyun felt as if she had been doused with a bucket of ice water, and her blood froze from head to toe.
She opened her mouth, but her throat was too dry to make a sound.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" the woman asked again. When there was no response, she continued, "Xiao Sheng has had too much to drink and is already lying down. Do you need to talk to him? If it's not urgent, call back tomorrow."
Wen Hanyun's fingers trembled uncontrollably, and her head ached as if countless needles were piercing it, shattering all the beautiful memories of the past.
She never imagined that one day Yansheng's nickname would come out of the mouth of a strange woman, sounding terribly grating.
Wen Hanyun stood there, her body ice-cold, feeling like a complete fool. The hurtful words she had heard at the Yan family's old house a few days ago—words she had never believed—now echoed in her ears like a curse, mocking her.
She thought her heartbreak had healed and that meeting Yansheng would allow her to completely escape the shadows of the past.
But now, this phone call, this unfamiliar female voice, easily shattered all her self-deception.
"He...is he asleep?" Wen Hanyun was still struggling, clinging to the last shred of hope.
Perhaps it's a misunderstanding?
Maybe it's a prank?
Maybe it was just a colleague who took him home?
Perhaps Yansheng was asleep, and someone with malicious intent took his phone?
"He didn't sleep," the person on the other end of the phone sounded a little embarrassed. "He drank quite a bit; he probably hasn't been this happy in a long time."
"How about... I hold the phone to his ear and let him say a few words to you?"
Whose call was it?
Just then, Yansheng's slightly hoarse voice, tinged with alcohol, came through the air.
"It's a young girl calling," the woman smiled. "Should we answer?"
Wen Hanyun quickly covered her mouth to avoid making any embarrassing noise.
Yan Sheng was actually awake?
In other words, he was not unaware of the woman's actions!
This idea was like a dull knife, repeatedly cutting into Wen Hanyun's heart.
She could picture the scene: Yansheng lying on a hotel bed, with a woman gently taking care of him and holding his phone.
“No need,” Wen Hanyun managed to squeeze out these three words with all her might. “I don’t have anything urgent to do. I’ll call tomorrow.”
After saying that, she quickly hung up the phone.
I let myself lean weakly against the wall, all my strength drained away.
The room lights were still off, with only a faint light shining through the window, illuminating her pale face.
After the call ended, the phone screen still showed the chat interface with Yansheng.
The last message she sent was in the afternoon: "Have a safe journey, and may your work go smoothly. Don't worry about me."
He did not reply.
She casually opened Yan Sheng's WeChat Moments. The latest post was made at 6 PM. It was a group photo from a social gathering. He was standing in the middle of a group of people, smiling politely, but the woman was not by his side.
But what does that prove?
Just like Yan Zhe always said he was working overtime and socializing, but in the end he still betrayed her.
They truly are an uncle and nephew.
Even the excuses they use are the same?
She didn't want to search for any other clues like she had when she broke up with Yanzhe before, because she no longer had the courage to go through it again...
Wen Hanyun slowly squatted down, hugged her knees with both hands, rested her head against the hotel's floor-to-ceiling window, and stared blankly at the endless stream of cars on the ground.
She didn't want to cry, didn't want to shed tears for someone who wasn't worth it, but the tears still fell like beads from a broken string.
Yansheng once told her that once she was willing to open her heart to him, they would get engaged and then build a small family of their own.
But now, her heart has finally opened to him, and all the promises have vanished like bubbles.
She didn't know who that woman was, what her relationship with Yansheng was, or whether it was all a coincidence or a long-planned scheme.
All she knew was that the fear and pain of betrayal once again enveloped her, making it hard for her to breathe.
.
The next morning, the band members flew back to City A together.
Qin Ling had an urgent matter to attend to and was picked up by the bodyguards sent by Buddha. So, Willand had to take her home instead.
"Snap out of it," Willand said with concern as he looked at Wen Hanyun in the back seat through the rearview mirror. "What's wrong? I called you several times but didn't hear you. Did something happen?"
Wen Hanyun looked up, trying to force a smile, but she couldn't manage it. She could only shake her head and say, "I'm fine, just a little tired."
“If you’re tired, I’ll take you back to rest,” Willand frowned. “Your health is important, don’t push yourself.”
“Um…” The thought of going back to Yansheng’s villa made Wen Hanyun feel uneasy. “Just drop me off in the city. I want to buy something on the way.”
"Are you really alright?" Hearing this, he paused, looking at her obviously unwell expression, and added, "Is it related to Yansheng?"
"I'm really okay..."
Willand handed her a tissue. "Miss Wen, you're a member of my band, so I have an obligation to understand your mental state."
Hearing his slightly forceful concern, Wen Hanyun couldn't help but let her tears fall again.
She choked up and incoherently recounted her phone call with Yansheng the previous night.
Willand listened patiently, though he was somewhat surprised.
He had always thought that Yansheng was a very good friend and that he was very attentive to Wen Hanyun, but he never expected something like this to happen.
“Don’t jump to conclusions,” he reassured. “Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding, like the client’s assistant or a friend helping out.”
"I'll check it for you tomorrow. Don't overthink it on your own."
"Okay..." Wen Hanyun smiled bitterly to herself.
It has to be said that Yan Sheng's disguise was very successful. In the eyes of every friend around him, he was the perfect boyfriend. Qin Ling, Weiland, and his bandmates all thought that he would not do such a thing.
Even she herself was deceiving herself like that.
She dared not hold onto hope any longer, fearing that the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
“I understand, Mr. Willand.” She wiped away her tears and saw that she was already on a familiar road. “Please drop me off here.”
A cold wind blew, making her shiver.
She didn't take a taxi, but instead walked slowly along the road, her mind a complete mess.
