Hunter and Prey
The heavy electronic gates, accompanied by a dull hum, fell one by one.
In just over ten seconds, the entire magnificent convention center was transformed into an isolated, impenetrable steel cage.
The meeting room, which had just been in chaos due to the sudden attack by those business tycoons, was now eerily silent.
Everyone stared in disbelief at the sudden turn of events, wondering what had happened.
The reporters who were blocked at the door, ready to rush to publish sensational headlines such as "Feng Group's internal strife leads to the failure of the signing ceremony," were completely dumbfounded.
What... is going on?
Why did the signing ceremony for the Feng Group look like an arrest scene from a police movie?
Could there be more to this story?
Only Hong Fu's face turned deathly pale.
As she watched the gates slowly descend, completely sealing off all her escape routes, a hint of genuine fear flickered in her usually affectionate and alluring eyes, capable of easily captivating men.
She then realized that she... seemed to have fallen into a trap.
She is not a hunter.
She was the one who had already fallen into the trap, the prey.
"Miss Hongfu," a cold, emotionless voice came from the main stage, "has your play ended?"
Feng Jinxuan had already returned to the front of the stage without anyone noticing.
He held a microphone in his hand, looking indifferently at the woman below the stage who had already lost her color, as if he were looking at a clown.
Beside him, the blond CEO from Noah's Ark watched the spectacle with great interest, showing no surprise whatsoever.
Clearly, he was also one of the people in the know about this "scheme".
Yu Jinli, on the other hand, stood behind Feng Jinxuan like a most dedicated assistant, holding a tablet computer.
She looked at the pale-faced woman below the stage and silently lit a candle for her in her heart.
Of all people to offend, she had to offend her boss, that petty and scheming monster.
Now look what happened, you've really messed things up.
"Feng Jinxuan! What... what do you want to do!" Hong Fu's voice trembled slightly.
But she was someone who had seen a lot, and she quickly forced herself to calm down.
She even forced a charming smile and readjusted her tone.
"President Feng, what do you mean by this? Is this how you treat your partners? Aren't you afraid that if word gets out, it will damage the reputation of the Feng Group?"
She is still trying to threaten him with public opinion.
"Reputation?" Feng Jinxuan's lips curled into a cold smile. "The reputation of my Feng Group is none of the business of a corporate spy."
He turned his head and gestured to his assistant, Wang, behind him.
Assistant Wang immediately understood.
He walked onto the stage, took the microphone, and bowed deeply to all the guests and reporters in the audience.
"Distinguished guests and friends from the media, I am very sorry to have startled you."
His tone was somber, yet it carried a hint of satisfaction at having avenged a great wrong.
"What just happened was neither an accident nor an internal conflict. It was a meticulously planned operation by our Feng Group in cooperation with relevant departments... a 'luring the snake out of its hole' capture operation."
As he spoke, he pressed the button on the remote control in his hand.
The image on the huge LED screen behind them, which was originally playing the signing ceremony PPT, suddenly changed.
Instead, they produced shockingly detailed investigation reports.
"This Ms. Zhao Hong, who calls herself 'Hong Fu,'" Assistant Wang's voice was clear and powerful, like that of a professional press conference host, "entered Yuncheng a month ago as an overseas investor. But according to our investigation, the 'Red Scorpion Capital' she represents is a completely shell company."
"During this month, she frequently contacted several of our company's important partners and, through improper means, gave them 'aromatherapy clips' containing unknown psychotropic drugs, which seriously affected their normal thinking and judgment, causing huge economic losses to several of our projects."
The high-definition surveillance footage immediately played on the screen.
The scene of Hong Fu, with her charming smile, delivering poisoned "gifts" to various business tycoons was clearly presented to everyone.
The meeting room erupted in chaos.
"Oh my god! So it was this woman who was behind this!"
"I knew it! Why did Mr. Li and the others suddenly act like different people? They were drugged!"
"This is corporate espionage! How malicious!"
Those guests who were just gloating now looked at Hong Fu with anger and disdain.
The reporters, like sharks smelling blood, gleamed with excitement, frantically snapping photos of Hong Fu.
Hong Fu's body began to tremble uncontrollably.
She knew she was finished.
Without further hesitation, she turned around abruptly and, like a startled rabbit, rushed frantically toward the nearest emergency exit!
However, she hadn't run more than a few steps.
A group of burly men in black suits and sunglasses filed out from backstage, forming a moving wall that completely blocked all her escape routes.
Leading the group was none other than Zhang Deshuai, the ever-meticulous and powerful legal queen.
“Ms. Hong Fu, whose real name is Zhao Hong,” Zhang Deshuai walked up to her, his face expressionless, but his voice was like a judge’s verdict, cold and authoritative, “We have ample evidence to suspect you of multiple cases of commercial espionage, unfair competition, and… intentional injury.”
She took out an arrest warrant stamped with a bright red seal from her briefcase and slowly unfolded it in front of her.
“I am now arresting you in accordance with the law. Everything you say will be used as evidence in court.”
Hong Fu looked at the arrest warrant, at the woman in front of her with an even stronger aura than her, and at the menacing bodyguards behind her.
She knew she was doomed today.
All the color drained from her face in an instant.
Those peach blossom eyes, which were always full of affection, revealed true despair.
Looking at the dramatic reversal scene before her, which resembled a Hollywood blockbuster, Yu Jinli couldn't help but mentally give a thumbs up to her boss for his meticulous and watertight planning.
Cool!
That was awesome!
The feeling of watching the villain fall into the trap step by step and finally be punished by the iron fist of justice is even more satisfying than earning a million dollars!
She was engrossed in watching when the man beside her suddenly leaned close to her ear and whispered something in a voice only the two of them could hear.
"Are you happy now?"
Yu Jinli nodded subconsciously.
"As long as you're happy." The man's voice carried a hint of barely perceptible amusement. "Remember to ask Assistant Wang for reimbursement for tonight's 'performance fee'."
Yu Jinli: "..."
This guy!
Even at a time like this, he didn't forget to remind her to ask for money!
That's just... spot on!
She looked at the man's perfectly sculpted profile and his dark eyes, which shone brightly with the light of victory.
The little bit of吐槽 (tu cao, a Chinese internet slang term for complaining or criticizing) that arose in my heart because of his cunning instantly turned into a... sweet and warm current.
Looking at her smug, cunning expression, like a cunning little fox who'd gotten a good deal, Feng Jinxuan felt the thick layer of pretense in his eyes melt a little more.
He felt that occasionally acting as a "director" and accompanying her in such a grand performance felt...not bad at all.
At least, it's much better than being alone in the dark, facing endless malice.
