Chapter 88 [VIP]
Chapter summary: Clear.
"Knock, knock, knock." There was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" Yu Jing called out towards the door.
"It's me." The Old Man of the Moon's voice came from the doorway. Yu Jing stood up with some confusion, opened the door, and called out questioningly, "Master?"
Smelling the smell of alcohol on the Matchmaker, he asked, "Master, have you been drinking?"
"Yes, I just had some drinks with Zelan and the clan chief." The Old Man of the Moon finished speaking, then continued, "I haven't seen you all day. Where have you been?"
“Me?” Yu Jing murmured and repeated, “The Emperor wanted to travel to the mortal realm. He said that I had just returned from my tribulation in the mortal realm and would be more familiar with it, so he asked me to lead the way to the Shangsi Festival in Jizhou.”
Yu Jing honestly confessed: "It's not that I didn't want to tell you, it's just that His Majesty arrived too early, and I didn't have time! Later, while I was strolling around, I forgot about it."
When the Old Man of the Moon heard Yu Jing's words, he frowned slightly, carefully examined Yu Jing's expression, and asked, "What's wrong? Is something on your mind?"
The Old Man of the Moon knows Yu Jing very well. When Yu Jing heard what the Old Man of the Moon said, he nodded and said, "Yes, Master, there is something I really don't understand."
"Want to have some tea with your master?" the Old Man of the Moon said, gesturing outside. Yu Jing smiled and nodded, "Okay."
The Old Man of the Moon led Yu Jing to the back mountain. If he hadn't brought her, Yu Jing wouldn't have known that there was such a large waterfall on the back mountain of Su Mountain. The water flowed from top to bottom, looking like a white cloth under the moonlight, which was quite spectacular. Yu Jing stood in front of the waterfall, somewhat lost in thought. Just as she was gazing at it, the Old Man of the Moon sat down and used magic to conjure up a table, chairs, and tea-making utensils.
Yu Jing sat down in front of the Old Man of the Moon. While brewing tea, the Old Man of the Moon asked, "My dear disciple, speak, is there anything you don't understand?"
Although she had transformed into a woman, Zelan and the Old Man of the Moon took very good care of Yu Jing. They were attentive to changes in Yu Jing's emotions and offered her guidance and comfort when needed.
Yu Jing pondered for a moment before speaking, "Master, whenever I see His Majesty, I always feel a very subtle emotion in my heart. It's as if I'm seeing Xie Xuan."
The Old Man of the Moon looked at Yu Jing and asked, "Is it because his appearance is exactly the same as Xie Xuan's?"
"That's probably it," Yu Jing replied, then continued, "When I went to Jizhou with you, I felt that you did have Xie Xuan's shadow in you, but there were also some differences."
“I know he is the emperor, not Xie Xuan, but my heart…” Yu Jing paused here and did not speak again.
"I still can't help but feel my heart flutter," the Matchmaker God chimed in.
"Yes," Yu Jing replied honestly. If she had any doubts before, she was now absolutely certain of the feelings that had moved her.
"You've fallen for the Lord," the Matchmaker said bluntly. Yu Jing's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. "But Master, I know the Lord isn't..."
“But Your Majesty is Xie Xuan.” The Old Man of the Moon looked at Yu Jing with certainty. “Whether he remembers or not, this is an undeniable fact.”
"Then what should I do?" Yu Jing asked the Old Man of the Moon with a worried look on her face. "Your Majesty has already forgotten."
"It's alright. Once we return to Heaven, we can ask Laozi for a bowl of celestial water."
Yu Jing looked at the Old Man of the Moon in surprise, her eyes filled with confusion. "Master, do you want me to forget too?"
“This is the best choice. Your Majesty is aloof. If only you remember, you will be the one who suffers,” the Old Man of the Moon said seriously. After saying that, he added, “My good disciple, listen to your master. Who hasn’t forgotten a few people when they were young? Back then, Ze Lan even brought a jar of Laozi’s immortal water to her palace to store it.”
Speaking of this, Yu Jing scratched her head somewhat embarrassedly. When she was little, she was ignorant and accidentally drank the jar of immortal water that Zhe Lan had brought back. This made Zhe Lan anxious, so she went to find the immortal doctor to ask if she was alright.
"Master, I'll think about it again after we return to Heaven tomorrow," Yu Jing sighed softly in response.
“Alright.” The Matchmaker readily agreed, then said to Yu Jing, “I think Yan Yi, the third son of the Fox Clan Chief, is quite good. He is handsome, refined, clean-cut, humble and elegant, and his age is similar to yours, making him a good match. Moreover, he is someone Zhe Lan has watched grow up, so she knows him well.”
"At the wedding banquet tomorrow, can you take a closer look and see if he or she is to your liking?"
“Master!” Yu Jing glanced at the Old Man of the Moon.
"Alright, alright, I'll tell you after you return to Heaven and drink the celestial water." The Old Man of the Moon immediately gave in.
Yu Jing finished the tea in front of him in one gulp, then stood up and said to the Matchmaker, "Master, I'm a little tired, I'll go back to sleep first."
"Alright." Although the Old Man of the Moon was surprised that she was going back after only a short while, he still replied, "Rest well and don't think too much. There's always someone to guide you, and at worst, there's always Zelan."
"Mmm." Yu Jing nodded, made a hand seal, and returned to her room. The sweet fragrance of gardenias wafted towards her, but Yu Jing felt quite troubled. She lay on the couch and drifted off to sleep, only hearing Li'er's voice the next morning.
"Yu Jing, get up, the sun is already high in the sky," Li'er said gently, knocking on the door.
"Right away," Yu Jing replied. She lay down for a while longer before getting up.
Today's wedding banquet felt even more lively than the previous days, with red silks and lanterns everywhere, making Yu Jing's eyes a little blurry. She and Li'er strolled casually through the front and back yards, and upon hearing that the women could go to the back yard to see the bride, Li'er pulled Yu Jing there. Inside, it was bustling with activity; the bride was already dressed, in a beautiful wedding gown and a magnificent crown inlaid with pearls.
"So beautiful!" Li'er whispered to Yu Jing, who nodded vigorously. She really was beautiful, with a gentle and graceful appearance, a beauty that radiated from within.
Yu Jing felt that she hadn't done anything with Li'er, and it was already getting dark. Yu Jing and Li'er found a good spot to watch the bride and groom exchange vows.
The red lanterns in the courtyard have all been lit. The entire village is enveloped in a festive atmosphere.
"Please invite the newlyweds into the hall." The matchmaker's voice was very loud, and as soon as she finished speaking, the people around began to stir.
The groom led the bride through the main gate with a red silk flower. The bride, with her veil covering her face, carefully stepped over the threshold, the saddle, and the brazier, and then walked toward the clan chief and his wife sitting in the main hall.
Yu Jing watched the newlyweds walk past her, noticing a gaze upon her. Looking up, she met Xie Xuan's eyes. His gaze was just as bright and shining as she had seen in Jizhou yesterday. Yu Jing's heart pounded rapidly. She slightly turned her head, refocusing her attention on the newlyweds. Because Su was in the mortal realm, they followed mortal etiquette. Xie Xuan simply sat in the seat next to the high seat.
"First bow to Heaven and Earth!" the matchmaker shouted.
The newlyweds followed instructions, completed the three bows, and were joyfully led to their bridal chamber. Afterwards, the feast began. Yu Jing, having just seen Xie Xuan and recalling what the Old Man of the Moon had told her the day before, lost her appetite. Xie Xuan was not at the same table as her. Yu Jing sat there preoccupied for a long time, then excused herself to go out for some fresh air, sent a message to the Old Man of the Moon and Zhe Lan, and decided to return to Heaven.
"Why are you leaving so early?"
Qianhe's voice sounded behind her, startling Yu Jing. She turned around abruptly, and there stood Qianhe, motionless behind her. He did this every time, and Yu Jing had the unsettling feeling that he was always following her, which was quite frightening.
"Young Prince," Yu Jing greeted Qianhe somewhat listlessly.
"Here you go."
Before she could finish speaking, Qianhe reached out to her. Yu Jing looked closely and saw that what lay in his palm was the red agate earring that Yu Jing had left for Qianhe when she left the mortal world.
"The young prince?" Yu Jing looked up at Qianhe, puzzled.
Qianhe calmly replied, "These are yours, here you go."
Yu Jing seemed to understand his implication. Sheng Hua's soul was no longer inside, so this was hers, and he naturally had to return it to her.
Yu Jing reached out and took it, saying with a touch of melancholy, "Young Prince, have you truly let go?"
Qianhe found the question interesting and chuckled softly, "No, that's why I'm bothering you."
Yu Jing was stunned, never expecting Qian He to say such a thing. She stared blankly at Qian He, speechless for a long time. She naively thought that Qian He had come to settle scores with her.
“But you are not her,” Qianhe said solemnly. “Even if you were kept by my side, it would be useless.”
"I'll forget her sooner or later. A thousand years, ten thousand years, that's a long time. She was just a mortal. I, the king, will forget her one day."
Seeing Qianhe's appearance, Yu Jing felt a little soft-hearted: "Little Prince, you can't drink Meng Po's soup, how about trying the immortal water of Laozi?"
Qianhe laughed out loud: "Thank you for your kindness, but I have tried it and it is useless to me."
Hearing Qianhe say this, Yu Jing was even more surprised: "You've tried it?"
"Are you really willing to forget?"
This is what's troubling Yu Jing. She doesn't want to forget, but Xie Xuan doesn't remember. She's the only one who remembers, and that's causing her great pain.
"Since we can't be together, it's better to forget everything. Unfortunately, this is my father's punishment for me."
Qianhe's words awakened Yu Jing. Her previously hesitant and uncertain heart suddenly seemed to have a clear understanding.
"The items have been returned, and I am returning to the Demon Realm." Qianhe turned to leave, but after taking two steps, he suddenly turned back. "Until we meet again, Yu Jing."
"Until we meet again," Yu Jing replied.
Xie Xuan, who was at the banquet, originally intended to look for Yu Jing, but unexpectedly heard from Zhe Lan that she had already returned to the Heavenly Court. Xie Xuan summoned his guiding butterfly, but Shui Hua Zhu's guiding butterfly did not fly towards the Heavenly Court; instead, it flew to the corridor in the backyard. When he arrived, Qian He was saying goodbye to Yu Jing. After Qian He left, Yu Jing glanced at what she was holding, and then also headed towards the Heavenly Court. Xie Xuan felt that Yu Jing was acting somewhat strangely, and he also felt a sense of unease, so he made a hand seal and followed her.
