Chapter 89 [VIP]

Chapter Summary: Immortal Water.

Yu Jing went straight to the Tushita Palace of Laozi. The boy at the gate stopped Yu Jing because he didn't recognize him.

Who goes there?

Yu Jing respectfully introduced himself: "Yu Jing, from the Marriage Hall."

Do you have an identity card?

Yu Jing reached out and handed him his identification token. He examined it carefully and then let him pass. It wasn't like this in every palace of the Heavenly Court, but the Supreme Lord Laozi's palace had so many treasures that they had been stolen before, and not just once. Therefore, one had to show their identification token to enter and leave the Tushita Palace.

"Thank you." Yu Jing thanked him and went inside, heading straight for the alchemy room. Laozi was a great lover of alchemy, and he was almost always in the alchemy room.

"who?"

Before Yu Jing even went inside, he heard the voice of Laozi coming from within.

"I am Yu Jing, a disciple of the Marriage Palace," Yu Jing obediently introduced herself.

"What business do you have with this old man?" Laozi stroked his beard and carefully looked Yu Jing up and down. He knew Yu Jing; he was the disciple of the Matchmaker who helped Xie Xuan, the Heavenly Lord, successfully return from his tribulation.

At the entrance of the Tushita Palace, Xie Xuan's appearance startled the little boy: "This humble immortal greets Your Majesty."

"Get up," Xie Xuan said, glancing at the palace name, somewhat puzzled as to why Yu Jing was seeking out the Supreme Lord Laozi at this hour. He stepped inside, casting an invisibility spell as he did so.

He followed the guiding butterfly all the way to Laozi's alchemy room. When he entered, Yu Jing was talking to Laozi.

"This humble fairy... wishes to ask the immortal for a cup of immortal water."

As soon as Yu Jing finished speaking, Xie Xuan's heart skipped a beat. After realizing what had happened, he felt relieved that he had come along, otherwise…

Laozi immediately understood, and without asking any further questions, conjured a cup of celestial water and handed it to Yu Jing. Yu Jing took it and said to Laozi, "Thank you, Laozi!"

The celestial water was contained in a white glass cup, its color a pale purple. It seemed somewhat different from the clear water she had seen at Zhelan's place before. Yu Jing turned back uncertainly, "Immortal, why does this celestial water seem different from the one I saw before?"

"We've changed one ingredient, and it's even more effective than before," Laozi said proudly to Yu Jing.

"Oh." Yu Jing suddenly realized, and took the fairy water back to the Marriage Hall.

Inside the Hall of Marriage, only Yu Jing remained. She sat at the desk under the Marriage Tree, lost in thought, holding the celestial water she had just obtained. Her mind was in turmoil; the words spoken by the Emperor, the Old Man of the Moon, and Qianhe, along with her memories of Xie Xuan in the mortal realm, flooded back like a revolving lantern.

Xie Xuan followed Yu Jing to the Marriage Hall and watched Yu Jing struggling under the tree, his thoughts in turmoil.

"Oh well, never mind." Yu Jing was annoyed by what she was thinking. She glanced at the magic potion in her hand, opened it without hesitation, and was about to drink when a familiar voice suddenly rang in her ears.

"You have hurt me, how can a cup of forgetfulness potion erase the damage?"

Yu Jing trembled in fright and replied in a trembling voice, "Then...then should I have a couple of drinks?"

Although she said that, she was devastated inside. She never expected Xie Xuan to be as elusive as a crane.

Xie Xuan thought he had made himself clear enough, but Yu Jing still hadn't grasped the point. He tightened his grip, but ultimately didn't say anything directly.

"There's no need for two cups of wine. Why not come and serve me at my Jade Purity Palace for a few days?"

“But I still have duties at the Marriage Palace,” Yu Jing stammered. Yu Jing had always thought that Xie Xuan only knew about everything that happened between him and her in the mortal realm, but didn’t actually remember it. So, when Xie Xuan said those words just now, Yu Jing subconsciously thought that he was going to settle accounts.

"It's alright, I will speak with the Old Man of the Moon."

Since Xie Xuan had already said so, what chance did Yu Jing have to refuse? He nodded and replied, "Okay."

"If Your Majesty has nothing else to attend to, I will take my leave now," Yu Jing said, and then disappeared in a flash. Yu Jing returned to Zhelan Palace. So much had happened in the past two days. When she was talking to Xie Xuan just now, Yu Jing hadn't expected it at all. Now that she was relaxed, she felt a little strange.

How did Xie Xuan know she wanted to drink the immortal water, and how did he happen to appear just as she was about to drink it? Why didn't he want her to drink it? The more Yu Jing thought about it, the stranger Xie Xuan seemed. She had deeply hurt him in the mortal realm; a normal person, knowing this, should find her despicable. Why would he let her take him to the mortal realm, and why would Xie Xuan's behavior there be so unlike someone visiting for the first time? Could it be that Xie Xuan, like Qianhe, hadn't forgotten at all?

Yu Jing suddenly had a bold idea. Thinking of this, she shook her head. If Xie Xuan hadn't forgotten, why pretend not to know him?

Yu Jing lay on the couch, thinking for a long time but still couldn't figure it out, and finally fell into a deep sleep.

When the Old Man of the Moon returned to the Hall of Marriage, he saw Xie Xuan standing under the Marriage Tree and instantly sobered up considerably: "Your Majesty."

Xie Xuan was still wearing the same outfit Su Shan had worn—a long, wide-sleeved robe in silver and blue, his jet-black hair tied up with a white jade crown, looking every bit the handsome young man. However, his expression didn't seem quite right at the moment.

After Yu Jing returned, Xie Xuan specifically went back to the Tushita Palace to instruct Laozi not to give the immortal water to Yu Jing for the time being. Upon hearing Xie Xuan's words, Laozi looked at him in surprise: "Your Majesty..."

"I did not drink your elixir."

Xie Xuan said calmly.

"Your Majesty, this...this is against the rules!" Laozi was so flustered that his hands were trembling as he stammered to Xie Xuan.

"Rules can be established or abolished." Xie Xuan looked at Laozi and said indifferently, his eyes brooking no argument. He had been annoyed ever since they arranged for him to go down and experience the love tribulation with this so-called Third Princess of the Western Sea.

Seeing Xie Xuan's unusual expression, Laozi didn't say anything more. After all, they all knew Xie Xuan's temperament; he was usually easygoing, but once he made up his mind, no one could persuade him otherwise. Moreover, Xie Xuan rarely showed a sullen face in front of them, his old ministers, so this meant he was truly angry.

After giving his instructions, Xie Xuan returned to the Marriage Hall and stood under the Marriage Tree for a long time. Hearing the Old Man of the Moon call him, he turned around. Seeing that the Old Man of the Moon was somewhat drunk, Xie Xuan waved his hand, and a bowl of hangover soup appeared on the table.

"The Old Man of the Moon has drunk first. I will speak with him later."

Seeing Xie Xuan's serious expression, the Matchmaker stopped smiling, walked to the low table, picked up the hangover soup, and drank it all in one gulp.

"Your Majesty, you may speak now," said the Old Man of the Moon.

"I wish to transfer Yu Jing to Yuqing Palace to serve for a few days."

The Old Man of the Moon looked at Xie Xuan with some surprise, his surprise filled with doubt.

"I have not drunk the immortal water. I am Xie Xuan. I am in love with Yu Jing."

Xie Xuan took one breath and said what he was supposed to say to Yu Jing earlier.

The Old Man of the Moon's eyes widened in surprise, speechless for a moment. After a long while, he finally spoke, asking, "Does...does Yu Jing know about this?"

"I think it's quite obvious. But she seems unaware." Xie Xuan finished speaking and even gave a self-deprecating laugh.

The Old Man of the Moon smiled and said, "Your Majesty probably doesn't know the true form of my beloved disciple. If Your Majesty knew, you wouldn't find it strange."

Xie Xuan looked at the Old Man of the Moon, who seemed to genuinely not know what Yu Jing's true form was.

"Butterfly tile".

Before the Old Man of the Moon had even finished speaking, Xie Xuan took a while to react before blankly asking, "Is it a spirit of an artifact?"

"Yes, when Zelan first ascended to godhood, immortals from all corners of the world came to celebrate, bringing many treasures. Among them were many immortal herbs, immortal waters, and immortal medicines. Zelan herself was an orchid, and being arrogant and conceited after ascending to godhood, she looked down on those immortal medicines and threw them all over the eaves. Unexpectedly, a baby fell down from the eaves later."

"Given Yu Jing's true form, it's already beyond our expectations that she can feel emotions. How could we possibly expect her to understand anything else? There are some things that, if Your Majesty doesn't tell her directly, she'll have to think about them for a long time before she can understand them," the Old Man of the Moon continued.

After Xie Xuan pondered for a moment upon hearing what the Old Man of the Moon had said, he smiled at him and said, "I understand. Thank you."

"Oh, right, there's one more thing I don't understand."

"Yu Jing, why did you suddenly think of drinking the potion of forgetfulness?"

She didn't drink it when she first returned to Heaven, but a few days later she remembered she wanted to drink it. It seemed very strange. Speaking of this, the Old Man of the Moon said somewhat embarrassedly, "It was I who persuaded her."

Xie Xuan frowned slightly.

"I thought that Your Majesty had drunk the elixir and had forgotten her. It seems that her feelings for Xie Xuan have been transferred to Your Majesty. If she doesn't drink the elixir, she will be the only one suffering."

Xie Xuan keenly caught a sentence and asked softly, "You're saying that she already has feelings for me?"

"Yes, of course. Otherwise, I wouldn't have advised her like this," the Old Man of the Moon replied naturally.

Xie Xuan couldn't hide his joy: "There's nothing else to it. Just have Yu Jing come to Yuqing Palace to serve me tomorrow. I will discuss this matter with Yu Jing."

"Alright," the Matchmaker replied, watching Xie Xuan leave. He thought to himself, "The Emperor seems like a different person now. He's not cold anymore, and even a little simple-minded. It seems love truly can change a person. If Yu Jing becomes the Empress, then wouldn't the Emperor have to call him 'Master' like Yu Jing? A teacher for a day is a father for life… that elevates his status instantly."

"Your Majesty, it's quite good too," the Old Man of the Moon murmured to himself.

Upon returning to Yuqing Palace, Mu Qing was waiting at the palace gate. Seeing Xie Xuan, she hurried forward and said, "Your Majesty!"

Xie Xuan suddenly said he had to leave, telling him to go back on his own after the banquet. He thought something had happened, but dared not ask any questions. When he returned to Yuqing Palace, he found Xie Xuan was not there, and waited for a long time without seeing him. He was about to summon the guiding butterfly to look for him.

Mu Qing looked at Xie Xuan, who seemed to be in a very good mood.

"Go and have someone clean the bedroom next to mine. Fairy Yu Jing will be coming tomorrow."

Mu Qing paused for a moment, then replied, "Yes."

Having roughly guessed that Xie Xuan's earlier actions were related to Yu Jing, he couldn't help but ask, "What brings Fairy Yu Jing here...?"

"Serve me at my side." Xie Xuan instructed as he walked inside, "Oh, and prepare some nice clothes and jewelry to put in the bedroom."

"yes."
