Chapter Sixty-Four: One Thousand Taels of Silver
Jingwu looked at her with a half-smile, but didn't reply.
Looking at her expression, Madam Yu hesitated for a moment before saying, "Master, as long as you help me resolve this matter, I will give you whatever amount of silver you ask for."
Jingwu scoffed lightly: "Alright, one thousand taels of silver."
Upon hearing this, Madam Yu's expression immediately changed: "This, this is too much. Master, could you please reduce the amount? Although my Yu family has been in business for generations, we haven't earned much money in recent years, and we really can't afford to pay this much."
Jingwu chuckled inwardly upon hearing this. With a wicked head of the household who commits all sorts of misdeeds, it would be a miracle if he could earn any money.
She stood up and looked coldly at the person in front of her: "Just one thousand taels."
Madam Yu opened her mouth, and said with some dissatisfaction, "Such a large sum of money, and we have to wait until my husband is sober before we can make a decision. Why don't you let him sober up first, Master?"
Jingwu stood up, casually made a hand seal, and injected the energy into his body.
The next second, the man who had been in a frenzy calmed down, and his eyes gradually regained their clarity.
Although Yu Run was out of control just now, he was conscious and knew what had just happened.
He immediately stood up, saw that it was a girl in front of him, and then tried to act shamelessly, putting his hands on his hips: "Master, your fees are outrageous! You didn't lift a finger, yet you want a thousand taels of silver from me? Why don't you just rob me?"
Jingwu looked at the person in front of him and scoffed, "You've committed all sorts of evil deeds, bullied men and women, and have several lives on your hands. I'm only asking for a thousand taels of silver from you because of the good deeds your ancestors did."
She would never have gotten involved in this matter if she didn't want that young man to ruin his future and incur negative karma because of such a scumbag.
Yu Run felt he was fine now, so he waved his hand and said, "Then I don't need you to solve it. Butler, see the guest out."
Jingwu remained seated, looking at him: "The reward for today's trip is 200 taels."
"What!" Yu Run jumped up instantly, glaring fiercely at the person in front of her: "You little brat, are you robbing me?! You didn't do anything, and you want 200 taels of silver from me?"
Jingwu looked at him, his eyes gradually showing impatience: "If you don't want to, that's fine too. I'll immediately take back the Heart-Cleansing Mantra from your body, and you'll be able to see Ox-Head and Horse-Face right away."
Upon hearing this, Yu Run stiffened and was speechless.
His face flushed red for a long time before he finally said to the steward, "Give her 200 taels."
The steward readily agreed and handed the girl a silver note containing 200 taels of silver.
Jingwu took it and left immediately without lingering.
Before she even stepped out the door, she heard the man cursing inside.
Jingwu pursed his lips and walked towards the courtyard, where he bumped into the servant who had just brought him tea.
The servant saw her and turned to run away.
Jingwu watched his retreating figure without calling out to him, then turned and went home.
That night, at the Yu family's residence.
Yu Run had been tormented for the past few days, and today he finally had some peace and quiet, so he planned to take a bath and go to the backyard to relax with the concubine he had recently taken.
The servant helped him out of the bathtub after he finished bathing, dried him off with a towel, and then took out a box of ointment and applied it to his skin.
Then, she helped him get dressed.
After Yu Run finished, he planned to go to the backyard. As soon as he stepped out, he saw a person with half a face standing on the tree in the yard.
He was startled and took a step back. He grabbed the handsome young servant beside him and asked, "Did you see that person in the tree?"
A glint of shrewdness flashed in the servant's eyes. He looked up, shook his head, and said, "Master, there's nothing on the tree."
Upon hearing this, Yu Run looked up again and saw that the half-face on the tree had turned into a ghost covered in blood.
He immediately ran back into the house yelling, but as soon as he entered, he found a Taotie sitting on the table with its legs crossed.
Before he could react, the gluttonous beast opened its blood-red maw and walked towards him.
"Ahhh! Don't come any closer! Don't come any closer!"
Yu Run waved his hands as he backed away and ran into the yard.
Unexpectedly, a blood-soaked demon appeared in the courtyard and walked towards him.
He was caught in a dilemma. He tried to run away, but tripped and fell to the ground, waving his hands helplessly.
The commotion quickly reached Madam Yu's ears. She rushed over and, seeing her husband back to his previous state, panicked instantly.
Yu Run grabbed the servant beside him and cried out, "Quickly! Arrest that woman! How dare she lie to me!"
Upon hearing this, Madam Yu immediately stopped the servant who was acting in this manner.
"No, go and invite her here, but you absolutely mustn't offend her."
The servant glanced at the man on the ground who was acting mad, decided to listen to his mistress, nodded in agreement, and then turned and ran out of the courtyard.
Knowing that someone would be visiting tonight, Jingwu didn't go to sleep. Instead, he dressed neatly and sat in the courtyard drinking tea.
She picked up the pastry Xue Wenhui had made and took a small bite.
The next second, she noticed a sound outside the door and knew that the person she was waiting for had arrived.
Jingwu stood up and opened the door, only to see the thin servant boy about to walk back.
"Tong Ke".
When the servant heard someone call his name, he immediately stopped and turned around, only to see the master standing at the door.
"Why didn't you knock before inviting me?" Jingwu walked up to him and asked softly.
This person was the son of the poor scholar Tong Yi, and also the one who cast the magic spell on Yu Run.
Tong Ke lowered his eyes, not daring to look directly at the person in front of him, and remained silent.
He didn't want the master to go to the Yu family to save that beast!
He had planned to stay at the door for a while before going back, and then tell the master that he hadn't opened the door and was probably already asleep.
Unexpectedly, the master opened the door and came out himself.
Jingwu sat down on the steps by the door and patted the seat next to him: "Want to sit for a while?"
Tong Ke hesitated for a moment, but still sat down next to her.
Seeing that he remained silent, Jingwu asked, "Who taught you magic?"
She could tell that the person in front of her had no cultivation level. If he hadn't been guided by a master, he would never have thought of using this method to retaliate against Yu Run.
When Tong Ke saw the master ask this question, he knew that she must have foreseen everything, so he didn't hide anything.
“After my father died, my mother went to collect his body, but unexpectedly, that bastard took a liking to her. He raped my mother in my father's funeral hall. My mother couldn't bear the humiliation and killed herself by smashing her head against my father's coffin.”
Tong Ke's eyes were filled with undisguised hatred, and his hands were clenched tightly.
“After I buried my father and mother together, I planned to sneak into the Yu family's house late at night and kill that villain. But an old man stopped me, saying that not only would I not be able to kill the villain, but I would also lose my life.”
