Chapter 18: If you're not familiar with it, don't get involved.

Mrs. Sun pinched her cheek, "You're not good enough."

Ye Taohua pouted, "My second aunt hasn't even taught me yet!"

Sun glanced at Ye Panjiu and said, "Your mother treated you like that before, and I don't think you said anything. If it were me, I would have pointed my finger at her and cursed her."

Ye Panjiu quickly spoke up, "We can't keep bringing up old grievances like this!"

Sun grabbed her shoulder and said, "Look how anxious my little sister is. I was just giving an example. If anyone dares to point their finger at her and curse her now, I'll beat them up!"

Ye Panjiu glared at her, "That's a really bad analogy."

She's currently closest to the Sun family. There's no way around it; when someone dislikes you, they'll want to look down on you every single day.

When I like you, I wish I could be with you every day.

Unable to resist this enthusiasm.

Grandma Ye also poked Sun's head, "You can't say anything bad about my daughter."

"Please, have mercy, I'll treat you to steamed buns as an apology," Mrs. Sun quickly begged.

Ye Taohua smiled and said, "Second Auntie earns so much money every day, and you only treat people to steamed buns?"

Madam Sun clutched the money pouch tightly. "I can see that now. You need to learn how to talk like your mother. She's a natural at doing business!"

Grandma Ye patted Ye Taohua's little head, "Grandma's treating. It's lunchtime, how about noodles?"

She sets up her stall here every day, and she's been craving that golden-yellow noodle dish across the street for so long. The aroma of minced meat wafts straight into her nostrils.

Upon hearing this, Ye Taohua swallowed hard. "Noodles are delicious! Grandma is so kind!"

The six men packed up their stall, loaded it onto the oxcart, and went to the noodle shop.

"Please come in, all six of you. What would you like to eat?" The waiter, wearing the most common cross-legged turban, waved a white cloth over his head and greeted them warmly.

"What kinds of noodles are available, and what are the prices?" Old Mrs. Ye asked with light steps and great interest.

"A bowl of plain noodles costs ten coins, while plain noodles and noodles with meat filling cost thirteen coins."

Grandma Ye clicked her tongue twice, feeling sorry for the money; this was even more expensive than braised food! "This is really expensive, give me a bowl of vegetarian noodles instead."

Ye Panjiu waved her hand, "Mom, let's eat the other two kinds, it's on me."

Grandma Ye looked conflicted. Her daughter's money was still money, and she was reluctant to spend it, but she really wanted to eat it.

Finally, gritting his teeth, he said, "Fine! Then give me a bowl of noodles with meat skewered in it!"

Ye Panjiu smiled and added to the waiter, "I'd like a bowl of plain noodles, with chili, but no scallions."

"Alright!" the waiter said with a smile.

Everyone else ordered noodles.

Liu ordered vegetarian noodles, and Ye Guihua pursed her lips and also ordered vegetarian noodles.

Ye Taohua was unhappy. "No, they can't go without noodles either. Aunt, if you two don't choose, I'll choose for you."

Ye Guihua laughed immediately, "Then I want to stick it with meat."

She thought the peach blossoms were wonderful and was always mindful of her feelings.

Liu shook her head, "I'll just eat vegetarian noodles."

Ye Taohua turned her head and said, "She wants plain noodles, thank you."

Ye Panjiu patted Ye Taohua's head; her daughter was quite assertive.

As expected, Madam Liu heard this but didn't say anything, though her expression became much more natural.

Six bowls of noodles were served one after another, and the group ate until they were sweating profusely, feeling extremely satisfied.

In the end, Ye Panjiu paid the money before Old Lady Ye could.

After the group had eaten and drunk their fill, they left the noodle shop.

"It really is Sister Pan Jiu. I thought I was seeing things and didn't dare to go up and acknowledge her."

Ye Panjiu rolled her eyes speechlessly. That scheming green tea Du E'li is at it again.

She didn't want to talk to Du E'li and wanted to walk away.

Du E'li stepped forward and took her hand, introducing her to the woman beside her who was also wearing a veil, "Sister-in-law, this is my former sister-in-law, Sister Pan Jiu."

Liu nodded almost imperceptibly.

She was the daughter of Master Liu, the county clerk, so her status was naturally different from that of this peasant.

Ye Panjiu flung her hand away, "We're not close, don't get involved."

Du E'li was so angry that her face turned ashen. This noodle shop was not cheap, and she didn't think that the poor bastards from the Ye family could afford to eat there, which was why she dared not acknowledge them.

Now Ye Panjiu is making things difficult for her in front of her new sister-in-law!

No matter how angry she was, her words still came out softly and gently, "Sister Panjiu, are you still angry with my brother? I also think that what he did was wrong, making you jump into the river to prove your innocence..."

Upon hearing this, Ye Panjiu stopped in her tracks.

The vendors and passersby around the area immediately started whispering and pointing at Ye Panjiu.

"What's there for me to be angry about? If you get bitten by a beast, are you going to bite back? Just accept your bad luck." Ye Panjiu shrugged.

"Jumping into the river is my choice. Who hasn't been blinded by greed at times? Just like you, now you're running around in the street, ranting about all the awful things your brother did. Isn't that being blinded by greed?" Ye Panjiu retorted jokingly.

Du E'li looked around at the stares, her hands clenching tightly inside her sleeves. When did this ignorant woman become so sharp-tongued?

"Sister Panjiu, that's not what I meant. You've misunderstood me..." she said, her voice trembling with tears.

"No, your words are so fake they make me sick. If you think your brother is wrong, then you should give your scholar brother a proper lecture. Why are you talking to me?" Ye Panjiu continued to press her advantage leisurely.

She was too busy making money to deal with the Du family, so Du E'li delivered herself to her doorstep.

If she doesn't seize the opportunity to teach her a lesson, wouldn't she be missing a golden opportunity?

“I…I didn’t say that…” Du E’li raised her hand and covered her chest weakly.

Liu looked at Ye Panjiu with disgust, "It's clearly you who can't give birth to a son, and you beat E'li, yet you think it's not your fault. You're utterly ignorant!"

A hint of mockery flashed in Ye Panjiu's eyes. "Du E'li talks about white, but you can't see black. You've been used as a pawn, and you still think you're so smart. Ha."

Seeing that others were speaking, Madam Sun quickly joined in, "Everyone, come and see! That beast Du forced my younger sister to suck the blood of our Ye family for over ten years, and then divorced her the moment she passed the imperial examination. What is he if not a beast! My younger sister did nothing wrong!"

"To divorce one's wife for only three days and then marry a new one—how can there be such a shameless person in the world!"

Sun's voice was sharp and shrill, which immediately attracted more people to gather around.

Liu took a step back; a lady from a respectable family should never be allowed to be stared at in the street!

She turned around and tried to walk back to the carriage.

Du E'li thought she was scared, so she grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving, saying, "Sister-in-law, you know what kind of person my brother is. We can't let them tarnish his reputation like this."

Liu was so angry that her chest heaved. If this got out, how could she ever hold her head high in the circle of county magistrate's daughters again?

She was already unhappy about marrying Du Pengzhi, and the thought of the mocking faces of those well-bred young ladies made her blood run cold.

She tried to pull her hand away, but Du E'li wouldn't let go.
