Chapter 6 That's disturbing.

Ye Erniu scratched his head, looking rather embarrassed.

Ye Panjiu quickly went back into the house.

She really couldn't hold back her laughter anymore.

...

The next day, Ye Panjiu went to bed a little late, and when she woke up, Ye Taohua was no longer in bed.

She put on a coarse cloth jacket and went to the outer room, where the Ye family members were already busy with their own tasks.

Ye Panjiu saw that there was food left for her on the table. Thinking of the charcoal cellar, she quickly finished her meal and went to the vegetable garden.

Several piles of charcoal had already been stacked up beside Ye Daniu.

It burned twice as much as last night, so it's obvious they got up very early this morning.

"Big brother is getting more and more skilled at charcoal burning, but where are Father and second brother?"

Ye Daniu stared intently at the fire, his eyes reddened by the flames. "They thought burning charcoal was a waste, so they went to chop firewood."

Ye Panjiu couldn't help but feel moved. Such a hardworking family, if it weren't for the original owner's actions, they probably could have built a new house.

She looked at the charcoal kiln, which was no longer smoking, and went forward to dig it open.

The firewood in the charcoal kiln had all turned into charcoal. Ye Panjiu quickly picked up a piece of charcoal. The core was burned through, the texture was very hard, it could not be broken by tapping, and it was in perfect condition.

It's good charcoal!

The amount of charcoal produced from this charcoal pit was more than the amount of charcoal Ye Daniu burned in one night and one morning.

It doesn't take up too much of a person's time.

"Brother, could you help me build two more charcoal kilns? That would be faster."

The remaining space can only be used to build two more charcoal kilns.

Looking at the cellar full of charcoal, Ye Daniu's heart burned with excitement. "Done!"

Ye Panjiu's hands moved non-stop as she took out the charcoal and put it away.

By lunchtime, Ye Panjiu had sealed the three charcoal pits again.

By late at night, the charcoal in these three cellars should all be burned.

At lunchtime, Old Man Ye and Ye Erniu had not yet returned home.

"They probably won't be coming back. We'll bring them more after we finish eating," said Grandma Ye, picking up her chopsticks.

Ye Panjiu looked at the thin rice soup in the bowl and felt uneasy.

In the Ye family, it was common for them to go out to work and not come home for lunch.

How did the original owner manage to turn a blind eye to all of this and just hand over the fruits of their labor to the Du family?

"We have quite a lot of charcoal ready at home, and I'll go to town to sell it this afternoon."

Burning charcoal can earn some money, but it's still difficult to make seven taels a month. She needs to think of a way to earn more money.

Not only will they have to pay back the seven taels of silver, but they will also run out of food in a month.

The thought of eating coarse food for a month made Ye Panjiu's face turn green.

"Little sister, I'll go with you this afternoon. The charcoal is too heavy for you to carry," Ye Daniu quickly said.

Ye Panjiu nodded; she really couldn't carry all that charcoal.

Sun gave a cold laugh, quickly finished her meal, and prepared to leave.

She felt disgusted just looking at her sister-in-law. She wanted to see if this troublemaking sister-in-law could actually make money from these charcoal pieces!

Grandma Ye pointed to the kitchen, "Second son's wife, now that you've finished eating, go and bring some food to the old man and his wife."

Sun raised her eyebrows, her face full of reluctance, but she dared not say anything to Old Lady Ye.

She didn't want to see Ye Erniu.

Ye Lei finished his brown rice porridge in two gulps, stood up and prepared to walk towards the kitchen. Since his mother didn't want to go, he would go and deliver the food.

Grandma Ye grabbed him and said, "The thatch on the roof is torn in some places, go and fix it."

Ye Ming glanced at his older brother speechlessly. It was obvious that his grandmother wanted their parents to reconcile, but she couldn't see that.

He also wanted his parents to reconcile quickly, otherwise his father would come to sleep in their room at night, making it so crowded that it would be difficult to even turn over.

Finally, Mrs. Sun left with a long face, carrying her lunch in her hand.

Ye Taohua poked the brown rice repeatedly with her chopsticks.

Ye Panjiu couldn't stand it anymore, "Peach Blossom, what's wrong?"

"Mother, can I go with you?" Ye Taohua asked in a very soft voice.

"Sure." When Ye Panjiu left the Du family, she only had twenty copper coins on her, which she had hidden in her socks.

Granny Du controlled all the money and didn't give the original owner a single extra copper coin. She even withheld the original owner's three taels of dowry, claiming that she couldn't take it with her after being divorced.

Yesterday, I spent four coins to go to town, and I still have sixteen coins left, enough for the three of us to go to town this afternoon.

"Thank you, Mother." Ye Taohua's eyes sparkled.

She's never been to town before.

After lunch, Ye Daniu went next door to find Ye Sansheng.

The oxcart can carry a maximum of five people at a time, but because there is a lot of charcoal, there is no room for anyone else.

Ye Panjiu took out ten coins and handed them to Ye Santian.

Ye Santian refused to accept it, saying, "Sister Panjiu, there are only three of you, six coins will suffice."

"Mita, I'll need your car to haul goods often from now on. If you refuse to accept it, I won't ride in it anymore," Ye Panjiu said, getting out of the car.

"No, I'll take it, I'll take it." Ye Santian quickly accepted it.

Ye Daniu clenched his fists. He didn't want to spend his younger sister's money, but he really didn't have a single copper coin left because of the doctor's visit.

Ye Taohua linked arms with Ye Panjiu, her eyes darting excitedly around.

Ye Panjiu pointed the way and had Ye Santian take the oxcart directly to the largest inn in town—Laifu Inn.

She discovered yesterday that this shop uses the most charcoal.

Whether it's providing hot water to guests, supplying charcoal to the rooftops, or cooking and boiling water, this shop uses charcoal for everything.

Compared to firewood, charcoal burns longer and is more cost-effective than firewood when used in large quantities.

Ye Daniu followed Ye Panjiu nervously; he had never been inside this place before.

Ye Taohua was also a little scared; this place looked too clean and too grand.

Ye Panjiu secretly squeezed her hand, "It's okay."

Ye Taohua looked at her, and it seemed that she had never seen her mother show fear again.
