Chapter 7 Feeling Anxious

The accountant paused, his hand stroking his beard. This young lady was asking for a hefty price!

"Three coins is definitely not going to work, two and a half coins is the highest price I can offer."

Ye Daniu stared blankly, his mouth slightly agape. What had happened?

How can it be so expensive?

Ye Panjiu smiled and said, "The deal is done. Don't worry, shopkeeper, I will never sell inferior goods."

The accountant looked at Ye Panjiu with a hint of admiration in his eyes, "I believe what you say, young lady."

Ye Panjiu pulled Ye Daniu to unload the charcoal from the oxcart, and after weighing it, it weighed a full 124 jin.

There's also more than ten times the amount of firewood in the vegetable garden.

The accountant promptly settled 310 coins for Ye Panjiu and personally delivered it with a beaming smile.

Ye Panjiu told Ye Santian to come back and pick her up later, so Ye Santian drove the oxcart back to the village to pick up another person.

Ye Taohua turned around and looked at the accountant's smiling face, feeling very puzzled.

"Mother, why is that person still laughing?"

Ye Panjiu touched the still-warm copper coin in her hand and said, "He made money."

Ye Daniu looked puzzled.

“A businessperson would never do a losing business. Compared to others, this charcoal, when converted into usage time, means the accountant will also make a profit,” Ye Panjiu patiently explained.

“But we also made more money,” Ye Taohua said thoughtfully.

"This is a win-win situation, the best outcome."

Ye Taohua didn't say anything more, her little head turning around incessantly.

Ye Panjiu pointed to the meat stall, "Brother, we've made our first pot of gold today, let's buy some meat to celebrate?"

Ye Daniu, as always, did whatever his younger sister said.

Ye Panjiu stepped forward and looked at the ancient meat stall.

"Freshly slaughtered pig, so fresh!" The burly butcher Wang shoved his knife into the chopping block and treated the meat with great enthusiasm.

What are the prices for meat?

"With bones, it's fifteen coins a pound; without bones, it's twenty coins a pound."

Ye Panjiu pointed to the wooden buckets next to the stall, "What about these?"

Butcher Wang was taken aback. "You want to buy pig offal?"

It's no wonder he was surprised; this stuff is difficult to handle. Even ordinary people struggle with buying salt, let alone buying various seasonings to deal with it.

Only the food stalls will make some, but not many.

Ye Panjiu nodded.

Ye Daniu was getting anxious. His family had bought cheap food before, but it turned out so bad that they couldn't eat it at all!

"Little sister, let's buy meat instead, this doesn't taste good."

Ye Panjiu shook her head at him, "Don't worry, big brother."

"If you want it, I'll give it to you for eight coins a pound."

"Then I'll take these intestines," Ye Panjiu said, pointing.

Butcher Wang picked up the intestines and weighed them: "Eight jin (4 catties)."

Ye Panjiu took out sixty-four coins and handed them over.

Looking at the patches on the three women's clothes, Butcher Wang said, "Since you're a new girl, I'll round it down to sixty."

Ye Panjiu smiled and thanked her, "Thank you."

Ye Taohua followed her example and said obediently, "Thank you, Uncle."

Only Ye Daniu remained gloomy and dejected.

Ye Panjiu then bought various spices, spending a total of fifty coins.

Ye Daniu looked at his palms, which were covered in sweat.

I've already spent what I earned; how am I going to pay off the debt in a month...?

He still needs to burn more charcoal in the morning and evening!

Finally, Ye Panjiu bought some eggs. Eggs cost one coin each, so she bought six coins' worth.

She didn't buy any rice or flour.

Throughout the journey, Ye Taohua's smile never faded.

The town is so much fun!

Ye Santian looked at what the three of them were carrying and asked curiously, "Brother Da Niu, Sister Pan Jiu, is there some big happy event in your family?"

Ye Panjiu didn't hide anything, "I made some money selling the charcoal I brought."

She wasn't afraid that everyone in the village would burn charcoal; the key was to produce good charcoal.

Moreover, charcoal is only expensive for a short period of time; it becomes less expensive as winter approaches.

"Congratulations! Shall we head back to the village now? Or wait a bit longer?"

There were only three of them. They had run out of charcoal, but the oxcart could still carry more people.

Ye Panjiu shook her head. "Let's go back."

The intestines smelled very strong, and she didn't want to bother others.

Ye Panjiu still took out ten coins and gave them to Ye Santian.

Ye Santian accepted the money with great embarrassment. Thanks to Sister Pan Jiu, he earned much more than usual today.

When Ye Daniu returned to the Ye family home, he carried all the things he had bought back home.

Grandma Ye was so surprised she couldn't close her mouth. "Why did you buy so many things?"

Ye Panjiu took a sip of water. "Today we hauled 124 catties of charcoal, which cost 2.5 coins per catty. We sold it for 310 coins, so we bought some offal to celebrate."

Sun took two steps forward in disbelief. "How much? You said three hundred and ten coins?"

Ye Panjiu nodded to her.

Liu looked at her in shock.

A grown man can earn at most twenty coins a day by carrying heavy loads.

They burned charcoal all night and all morning and made more than ten times their original amount!

Old Man Ye and Ye Erniu were carrying the last pile of firewood into the house when they arrived.

Sun rushed to Ye Erniu's side in one stride, "Little sister sold the charcoal for a full three hundred and ten coins!"

Ye Erniu's heart was bursting with excitement, and he couldn't control himself. He was pulled by Chai and sat straight down on the ground.

If it weren't this much in a day, it would be nine taels of silver in a month!

Ye Ming looked around at the happy faces of his family, pointed to the large pile of things Ye Panjiu had bought, and asked in a low voice, "How much did Auntie spend on all this?"

"Less than one hundred and twenty coins." Ye Panjiu said, picking up her basket and walking towards the kitchen. It was getting late, and the Ye family couldn't light a lamp after dark, so they couldn't eat in the dark.

Ye Mingdun stood still, his gaze meeting Ye Daniu's.
