Chapter 12: The Fight Begins

When Han Yiyi returned to the street corner carrying large and small bags, Old Man Wei was already waiting there.

When Old Man Wei saw that Han Yiyi had taken so many things, he quickly stepped forward to help and asked in surprise.

"Han girl, why did you buy so much stuff...?"

"Yes, I dug up some medicinal herbs on the mountain yesterday and thought I'd see if the clinic would accept them. I didn't expect they would, so I sold them for some money. We just moved into a thatched hut and we're short of everything, so we bought a lot. But don't worry, Uncle Wei, these things take up a lot of space, so they're enough for one person..." As he spoke, he took out ten coins and stuffed them into Old Man Wei's hand.

Old Man Wei had only asked out of curiosity, but he felt a little embarrassed when Han Yiyi said that. However, seeing that Han Yiyi insisted, he accepted the copper coins that were handed to him and hurriedly helped Han Yiyi carry the things onto the oxcart.

Just as Han Yiyi and the other two settled into the oxcart, they saw the woman who had been holding the child return. However, her face looked extremely pale. Han Yiyi searched through the original owner's memories again but found no recollection of the woman, so she stopped thinking about it.

By the time they returned to the village, it was already past noon. On the way back, Han Yi and the two little ones had already eaten the meat buns they had bought earlier. He wanted to greet the woman across the street, but seeing that she had her head down, he gave up.

Han Yiyi saw two women talking under a big tree at the village entrance from afar. When she saw that Granny Fan was one of them, she frowned slightly. When the woman opposite saw the two under the tree, she got off the oxcart and quickly left along the road.

Han Yiyi thought to herself, it seems that no matter what era, everyone is afraid of such a scene. Han Yiyi also wanted to go back by the side path, but she had too many things and was leading two children, so she really had no choice.

Sure enough, before the oxcart even reached the big tree, several women stood up curiously and blocked the oxcart. Seeing that it was Han Yiyi and so many things, they became even more curious. One of the old women standing next to Granny Fan asked directly.

"Oh dear, the daughter-in-law of the Fan family, oh no, she's not the daughter-in-law of the Fan family anymore, Han girl, it seems you've struck it rich, buying so many big things all at once, let me see what you bought..." As she spoke, she reached out to rummage through Han Yiyi's basket.

The original owner had memories of this person, Old Woman Huang, who was just like Old Woman Fan, also a mean and mean-spirited woman. In the past, when Old Woman Fan bullied the original owner, this old woman would often join in with sarcastic and insulting remarks.

According to the original owner's memories, it seems that her previous daughter-in-law was beaten to death by her son at her instigation. It is said that she later married another woman, but the original owner never met her.

Therefore, when she saw him reach out to rummage through her basket, Han Yiyi slapped him without hesitation.

Unexpectedly, the old woman was quick-witted and managed to dodge it. Just as Han Yiyi was feeling sorry for her, she heard Old Woman Huang cry out in pain.

When she saw Han Yiyi hitting her, she hurriedly pulled her hand back, but she pulled it back too quickly and, without noticing, her hand hit the frame of the oxcart. She winced in pain. Han Yiyi thought to herself, "Serves her right."

"You little whore, how could you be so cruel? I just wanted to see what you bought, and you treated me so badly..."

"Who are you calling, you little whore..." Han Yi had no liking for this kind of old hag. When she called him a little whore right away, he couldn't help but ask.

“I’m calling you…”

When Old Lady Huang heard Han Yiyi speak, she replied immediately. However, after saying that, she realized that she had said something wrong and became somewhat angry. So she spoke again.

"You little whore, so disrespectful to your elders, you deserve to be divorced..." Before she could finish her sentence, seeing the look in Han Yi's eyes, she unconsciously took a step back.

When he came to his senses, he looked at Granny Fan with some doubt in his eyes, clearly asking, "How come this abandoned woman of yours seems like a completely different person?"

Old Lady Fan also saw Han Yiyi's cold glance at Old Lady Huang. Now, receiving Old Lady Huang's questioning look, she couldn't help but snort and speak.

"Hmph, some people are inherently disrespectful to the elderly and children. Their previous gentleness was probably just an act. Fortunately, they have been divorced by my family and can no longer harm our family..." Old Mrs. Fan said, but her eyes never left the basket in Han Yiyi's hand.

Although the contents of the basket were wrapped in oiled paper, it was clear at a glance that they were pork. The thought that this little prostitute actually bought pork made Old Lady Fan subconsciously feel that Han Yiyi and her two children were not worthy of eating this pork.

The person who should be eating pork is her scholar son, and now there's also a daughter-in-law from town. As for Han Yiyi and her three children, they're just useless good-for-nothings, it would be a waste to eat them.

Thinking of this, Granny Fan gave Granny Huang a wink, and then reached out to take the basket from Han Yiyi's oxcart.

Han Yiyi had noticed something amiss in Granny Fan's eyes, so she got off the oxcart. Now, seeing that the man was trying to snatch it by force, she quickly reached out to stop him, but her arm was grabbed by Granny Huang.

Han Yiyi couldn't break free, and seeing that Granny Fan's hand had already touched the oil paper package in the basket, Han Yiyi was furious and kicked Granny Fan.

When Han Yi kicked Granny Fan, she fell face-first to the ground, dropping the oil paper package in her hand. By sheer coincidence, her face landed squarely on the package.

When Han Yi saw that Old Witch Fan was lying on the ground and that his arm was still being held by Old Woman Huang, he kicked her hard in the knee. Old Woman Huang cried out in pain and knelt down on the ground.

The oil paper package on the ground was thrown down by Granny Fan, who then bit into it, causing the contents to spill out. Upon seeing this mess on the ground, Granny Fan began to gag.

It turned out that what Granny Fan was holding wasn't pork at all, but pig intestines. After gnawing on a mouthful of pig intestines, Granny Fan almost rolled her eyes and fainted.

Old Mrs. Huang was still wailing and cursing Han Yi for breaking her leg, demanding compensation. Han Yi only glanced at her coldly and said...

“If you shout again, I’ll report you to the authorities for instigating your son to beat your ex-daughter-in-law to death, and I’ll send your son to jail…”

Upon hearing Han Yiyi's words, Old Lady Huang's expression changed, and she immediately shut her mouth. Then, somewhat guiltily, she pointed at Han Yiyi and said...

"You, you shouldn't talk nonsense. She was useless and accidentally fell and died. What does it have to do with my son..."
