Chapter 108 Wedding Postponed

Standing at the fortune-telling stall, Song Yue gazed at the yellow ribbon fluttering behind the fortune slips, which were covered with densely written text. For some reason, she felt a sense of solemnity and reverence.

Song Huan picked up the fortune-telling container, closed her eyes, and shook it twice.

Snap!

A slip of paper was drawn.

Song Huan opened her eyes and eagerly handed the fortune slip to the little monk. The little monk took it and, according to the fortune slip, drew one from the yellow ribbon behind him and handed it to Song Huan: "Uncle Ling Zhi is under the Bodhi tree outside the courtyard."

Song Huan thanked her and then looked at Song Yue: "Third Sister?"

"I won't ask anymore."

Song Huan thought for a moment. Her third sister had everything she needed and probably had no regrets. So she didn't force her and took Song Yue to the back mountain. Sure enough, they saw an old monk sitting quietly under the Bodhi tree.

The old monk greeted the two with a kind and benevolent expression.

"Master." The two bowed.

Song Huan handed over the yellow ribbon in her hand. The old monk glanced at it briefly and said, "Miss, you are destined to enjoy good fortune in this life, having accumulated blessings in your past life. You will live a life of luxury and carefree happiness."

"Thank you, Master!" Song Huan beamed with joy. She then asked a few more questions about marriage, and the old monk smiled and said, "A loving couple will never doubt each other."

Song Huan's face flushed red, and she shyly pulled Song Yue away.

The old monk said, "Young lady, please wait."

Song Yue turned around.

“Master, my third sister’s marriage is not yet settled; she’s getting married in two days,” Song Huan explained with a smile.

The old monk shook his head: "The girl won't be able to get married within three years."

"Huh?" Song Huan's mouth dropped open in shock, somewhat incredulous. She glanced at Song Yue, whose face remained expressionless: "What makes you say that?"

"The young lady's fate has been fraught with hardship. Her true love was at the age of sixteen, but now it is nothing but fleeting smoke, scattered with the wind," the old monk said.

Song Yue was secretly alarmed: "But the whole world knows that I'm getting married the day after tomorrow."

"No, no."

The old monk said no more and continued meditating.

The smile on Song Huan's face had vanished. Realizing she had made a mistake, she looked at Song Yue awkwardly and said, "Third, Third Sister, I knew I shouldn't have brought you along."

The smile on Song Yue's face turned slightly cold as she shook her head: "It's getting windy, let's go back."

Throughout the journey, Song Huan didn't dare to even breathe loudly.

As they approached their destination, Song Yue said to Song Huan, "There's no need to mention Master's words to anyone else today."

"Okay, okay, but Third Sister, don't take it to heart. Who can say for sure? Maybe it was just a lucky guess," Song Huan comforted her.

Song Yue smiled without saying a word.

When the two entered the mansion, the atmosphere became inexplicably heavy. The steward saw her and quickly said, "Miss, something has happened. You should go to the backyard to take a look."

Song Yue's heart sank.

From the high seat in the back hall, Princess Jia Hua's angry shouts came. Song Yue quickened her pace and saw Song Yao lying on the ground, crying her heart out.

“Princess, I was just trying to bring my father some food. Who would have thought he would kill himself by hitting his head on a wall? Princess, it has nothing to do with me.”

Song Yue was slightly taken aback. Song Kaifeng was dead?

Xiu Shu pulled Song Yue aside and started talking about what had happened that day. Song Kaifeng had committed suicide by hitting his head against a wall, and since guests had come to the mansion that day, Song Yao loudly proclaimed the matter.

Since her biological father died, Song Yue, as his biological daughter, was required to observe three years of mourning according to custom.

Song Yue suddenly remembered the old monk's words and felt a chill run down her spine. Princess Jia Hua pulled Song Yue into her arms and said, "A Yue, I'm afraid this marriage can't go through."

It would have been better if the news hadn't leaked out, but now that it has, no matter how outrageous Song Kaifeng's actions were before, now that he's dead, Song Yue is supposed to observe mourning according to custom.

Song Yue pursed her lips and, looking down, caught a glimpse of the fleeting smugness in Song Yao's eyes.

"Third sister, it's just a matter of getting married a few years later. You can't hold a funeral and a mourning ceremony at the same time, making yourself a laughing stock," Song Yao kindly advised.

"Shut up! Guards, drag the second young lady out..."

“Mother.” Song Yue stopped Princess Jia Hua and said in a low voice, “I am still young. Now that things have come to this, if Song Yao gets angry because of this, I am worried that the Zhennan Prince’s Mansion will take this opportunity to demand her back.”

The engagement was postponed, and her mood was as calm as a still lake.

Quietly.

Princess Jiahua was furious: "Let the Princess Consort of Zhennan come and take them away in person!"

"yes."

Song Yao panicked: "Princess, this has nothing to do with me..."

Xiu Shu had already had Song Yao's mouth gagged and taken away, restoring peace and quiet to her ears. Princess Jia Hua blamed herself, saying, "It's my fault for being negligent and delaying you."

Just then, news came from the doorway that Zhao Zhiyan had arrived.

A moment later, Zhao Zhiyan appeared in a hurry. Princess Jiahua looked furious, while Song Yue stood aside with a blank expression.

Princess Jia Hua said, "This marriage can only be postponed. Eighth Prince, you must promise me that no matter what means the marriage envoy uses, you must protect A Yue."

Zhao Zhiyan nodded solemnly: "I will protect you with my life."

The wedding is temporarily suspended.

Many people are secretly laughing at us.

When Princess Zhennan arrived, she walked briskly, her smile almost reaching her ears. But when she reached the door, she stopped laughing and put on a sad expression.

Princess Jiahua sent Zhao Zhiyan to accompany Song Yue.

The two went to the backyard.

As soon as Princess Zhennan entered, she saw Princess Jiahua reprimanding Song Yao with a gloomy expression: "This person is the daughter-in-law of the Zhennan Prince's Mansion. Shouldn't the Princess give an explanation?"

“Princess, that’s a bit unreasonable. Yao Yao panicked and called for help, which was out of filial piety. What if there’s still hope for Master Song?” After the Princess of Zhennan and Princess Jiahua had a falling out, they no longer maintained their composure and said whatever came to mind.
