Linghu Ning woke up at noon. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and asked suspiciously, "How long have I been asleep?"
"Your Majesty, it has been two hours." A palace maid stepped forward to support Linghu Ning, who was surprised and murmured, "Has it really been that long?"
"After you fell asleep, Your Majesty went to Consort Xian's palace and brought over that imperial chef from the Northwest for you. Would you like to try something?"
The palace maid's face revealed arrogance as she flattered, "Consort Xian has served His Majesty for many years and has two sons and a daughter. She is also the daughter of a military family, and even the Empress gives her some leeway. His Majesty even brought a cook for you, which shows how sincere His Majesty is towards you."
A sincere heart?
Linghu Ning suppressed a sneer at the corner of her mouth.
How could someone so cruel and bloodthirsty have a sincere heart?
"It's so serious. If I had known, I wouldn't have made things difficult for His Majesty." Linghu Ning said regretfully, like a child who had done something wrong. She said in a low voice, "Let the cook go back in a few days. It's my fault for being ignorant. I shouldn't let this cause a rift between His Majesty and Consort Xian."
The palace maid, however, disagreed: "He's just a royal chef; Consort Xian wouldn't be so petty."
"Really?"
"certainly."
Linghu Ning breathed a sigh of relief, then suddenly sniffed the air as if she smelled a fragrance: "What's that smell?"
The palace maid, smiling, helped Linghu Ning to the window. Pushing it open, the fragrance of crabapple blossoms wafted out. She covered her mouth in surprise, "What...what's going on? I clearly remember there being no crabapple blossoms in Jingyang Palace, how come..."
"Your Majesty, these were specially ordered to be planted by His Majesty, to please your eyes and bring you some enjoyment," the palace maid said with a smile.
Linghu Ning's eyes reddened: "Your Majesty, you have treated me so well. I have no way to repay you."
After speaking
The Emperor of Japan walked towards them with a smile, with his guards carrying two cages that were placed under the window.
"Your Majesty?" Linghu Ning was both surprised and delighted, her eyes welling up with tears, and she rushed towards the Emperor of Dongying: "Your Majesty, I thank you."
The Emperor of Japan looked at the woman in his arms, a smirk playing on his lips: "You're satisfied with just this little favor?"
"Your Majesty risked your life to save me; I have no regrets in this life." Linghu Ning wrapped her arms around the Emperor of Dongying's arm, her lips curving into a bright smile.
After cuddling for a while, Linghu Ning looked down at the two white rabbits in the cage. They were plump, lively, and adorable.
The Emperor of Dongying's gaze fell on Linghu Ning, his face full of doting affection.
Before they knew it, an entire afternoon had passed.
After teasing the rabbit, Linghu Ning unconsciously yawned. In order to keep the Emperor of Dongying company, she gritted her teeth and tried to stay awake. She sat on the chaise longue, supporting her chin with one hand.
During this time, a young eunuch delivered a letter. The Emperor of Japan glanced at it, his expression changed slightly, and then crumpled the letter into a ball and hid it in his sleeve.
"Hiss!" The Emperor of Japan clutched his chest, a look of pain on his face.
Upon seeing this, Linghu Ning's sleepiness vanished instantly. She jumped up and went to the Emperor of Dongying's side: "Your Majesty, Your Majesty, what's wrong?"
"I...I'm fine."
"Quickly, go and summon the imperial physician! Chan'er, hurry!"
The palace maid Chan'er nodded and ran away.
The imperial physician arrived quickly and, after examining the emperor, said thoughtfully, "His Majesty has been afflicted by a Gu poison and urgently needs his heart's blood as medicine."
Linghu Ning immediately said, "Then what are we waiting for? Quickly take the blood from the tip of your heart."
After saying this, she got up and went behind the screen, whereupon she summoned the female physician inside.
A short while later, with a muffled groan, Linghu Ning fainted after the blood was drawn, and the female physician quickly bandaged her up.
"Your Majesty?" Chan'er called softly.
Linghu Ning has fallen into a coma.
The Emperor of Japan came upon hearing the commotion. He frowned as he looked at the woman on the bed, whose face was deathly pale and who was still trembling. He gave the imperial physician a meaningful look.
The imperial physician stepped forward, felt the pulse, and then ordered someone to prepare some tonics.
The two retreated to the corridor, whereupon the imperial physician spoke: "Your Majesty, it is thanks to Consort Shu's timely consumption of tonics that she has been able to continue taking them. If she is to continue drawing blood in the long term, these tonics must not be stopped."
"Is Consort Shu's life in danger?" The Emperor of Dongying asked in a low voice, his expression unreadable.
The imperial physician remained silent.
The Emperor of Dongying took a deep breath, waved his hand, and ordered someone to send some of the tonics from the storeroom to Jingyang Palace. He then instructed Chan'er, "Take good care of Consort Shu."
"yes."
Linghu Ning slept for two whole days after that.
When she woke up again, Chan'er quickly helped her up: "Your Majesty, you're finally awake."
Linghu Ning immediately asked, "Is His Majesty feeling any better?"
Chan'er nodded: "Thanks to Your Majesty, His Majesty is much better now."
Linghu Ning breathed a sigh of relief, saying that was good. She rubbed her head and asked herself how long she had slept.
"Her Majesty slept for two days."
"It's been so long..."
Chan'er didn't say much, but ordered someone to bring food to serve Linghu Ning. After she had eaten and drunk her fill, Chan'er said, "Your Majesty, someone from Northern Chu has come to visit you. Would you like to see them?"
Linghu Ning smiled and nodded.
Soon after, a woman dressed as amber entered and curtsied to Linghu Ning: "Greetings to Consort Shu. This servant has been ordered to visit you."
Amber looked around.
Linghu Ning waved her hand: "Chan'er, you may all step back."
Chan'er's face stiffened slightly, and a look of disappointment appeared on her face, but she still stepped back and closed the door behind her.
"Your Highness, don't let yourself fall into the trap of pleasure and forget the hatred between the nation and your family. The Emperor of Dongying is your mortal enemy. How can you risk your life to save him?" Amber said coldly, "Our Crown Princess went to great lengths to send you here, not so that you could enjoy a life of luxury."
