"You!" Song Kaifeng really didn't dare to provoke Princess Jia Hua, fearing that she might actually do something foolish.
Mother was right.
He has endured for so many years. As long as Princess Jia Hua leaves Northern Chu safely, he will enjoy endless wealth and glory in the future.
Why bother competing with Princess Jia Hua for a single day?
In the end, Song Kaifeng compromised and said in a low voice, "I was confused by anger, Princess, please calm down."
"roll!"
Song Kaifeng's face stiffened, and he hurriedly turned around, only to see a familiar figure when he looked up. The person was young and stood at the door, with a gloomy face and a bloodthirsty light flashing in his eyes.
"The Fifth Prince?"
He was surprised.
The Fifth Prince stepped across the threshold and walked towards Song Kaifeng, his piercing gaze seeming to want to tear Song Kaifeng to shreds.
The young Fifth Prince was unlike the gentle and reserved Fourth Prince. He was more like a wicked demon, and the things he did were not things that someone his age should do.
I was once frightened by Consort Qi's dog in the Imperial Garden.
Not long after, Consort Qi's dog went missing. When it was found, the Fifth Prince sat by the riverbank with a fire burning and personally skinned the dog.
This scared Consort Qi so much that she fainted.
When Consort Qi filed a complaint with the Emperor, the Emperor was furious and ordered the Fifth Prince to apologize to Consort Qi. The Fifth Prince obediently apologized.
Turning around in winter, he gave Consort Qi a fluffy little hand warmer and said with a smile, "I peeled this skin myself. This guy is not well-behaved at all. I smashed it to death before I could barely peel off the skin. Unfortunately, it is no longer intact."
The woman was so frightened that she fainted on the spot and had nightmares for several days afterward.
Besides the Empress Dowager and the Emperor, the Fifth Prince didn't take them seriously at all. When the Fifth Prince was thirteen years old, the Empress Dowager wanted to choose a princess for him.
The young woman was the legitimate daughter of a military family, of noble status. She only said that she already had someone she liked and had declined the marriage proposal. The Empress Dowager hadn't even had a chance to speak yet.
The fifth prince pointed at the girl's hair in front of everyone and said, "Your hairpin is crooked."
The girl was taken aback.
The Fifth Prince pulled the hairpin from her temple and, in full view of everyone, slashed the girl's beautiful face with such force that the wound was deep enough to see the bone.
The girl screamed in terror and cried so hard she almost fainted.
The Fifth Prince glanced down at the girl and said, "You think you're worthy of looking down on me?"
The girl was disfigured, and the general was furious. He knelt before the Empress Dowager demanding justice, but the Fifth Prince said, "I cannot refuse a gift from an elder. How dare she do something that disgraces our family at such a young age! If I were you, I would personally beat her to death to uphold our family's honor!"
The general was furious: "What wrong has my daughter done?"
"Today is the selection of the Fifth Prince's consort, and the General's Mansion has sent in such an unsightly thing. Isn't this disrespect to the royal family? Did she have the consent of a matchmaker and her parents for this important marriage?"
The general stared at the Fifth Prince's ambiguous smile, moved his lips slightly, and naturally said no.
To dare to admit that one has a lover and yet still send one to the palace to be selected as a concubine is to commit the crime of deceiving the emperor, a crime punishable by double the severity.
"So, she really is extremely lewd and shameless. What's wrong with me, the prince, teaching such a disgraceful person a lesson?"
These words left the general speechless, and he could only swallow this bitter pill.
The Fifth Prince ruined the General's daughter's appearance, which is tantamount to cutting off her path to marriage. The Fifth Prince even bent down and forced the General's daughter to reveal who her beloved was.
The general's eldest daughter dared not speak, and covered her face, sobbing.
The Fifth Prince added, "I want to see which scoundrel dares to seduce the General's daughter!"
In short, the fate of the general's eldest daughter for the rest of her life is sealed.
The general was both angry and furious, but dared not refute.
The Empress Dowager could only offer a few words of comfort before letting the person go.
Looking at the gloomy face of the young man in front of him, Song Kaifeng felt a chill run down his spine and instinctively felt a sense of fear.
The Fifth Prince stood before Song Kaifeng, a smile on his face: "Song Kaifeng, what are you doing barging into my cousin's courtyard with a sword in hand?"
āIā¦ā Song Kaifeng swallowed hard, stammering and unable to speak.
In front of the Fifth Prince, Song Kaifeng felt even more tormented than in front of the Emperor. He quickly sheathed his sword and changed the subject: "The Fifth Prince must be here to chat with the Princess. I won't disturb you any longer."
He was about to leave after saying that.
Did I let you leave?
A casual remark from behind made Song Kaifeng pause.
The Fifth Prince walked around to him again, a half-smile on his face: "Song Kaifeng, you still haven't answered my question. Why did you draw your sword?"
Just as Song Kaifeng was about to explain, the Fifth Prince pointed to one of the Song family guards and said, "You tell me how long I've been here."
The guard quickly replied, "It has been at least half an hour."
Song Kaifeng swallowed back the words he was about to say. He had been there for half an hour, so he must have heard everything that had just been said.
"Song Kaifeng?!" the Fifth Prince urged impatiently.
Amidst the shouts, he was forced to kneel down and bow his head: "Your Majesty, I was confused for a moment. I only wanted to scare you, Princess. I had no other intentions."
The Fifth Prince opened his beautiful eyes, a smile on his face, and stepped on Song Kaifeng's fingers that were propped up on the ground, grinding them down on his tiptoes.
Song Kaifeng's face changed color upon hearing the pain.
"You're just a minor marquis, what right do you have to scare my cousin?" the Fifth Prince spat out through gritted teeth.
The pain of his fingers almost being crushed made Song Kaifeng's forehead drip with cold sweat. He turned his head to look at Princess Jiahua beside him and called out "Princess" in a trembling voice.
Princess Jia Hua raised an eyebrow.
The Fifth Prince immediately withdrew his foot: "Song Kaifeng, I just wanted to scare you a little. You should go back first. My cousin and I still have something to talk about."
