Chapter 242 Undeterred

The sudden greeting startled the old nanny, who turned pale. "Why are you bowing like that? Her Majesty the Empress is waiting for you inside."

Princess Jia Hua feigned a flustered expression: "It was my fault, Your Majesty the Empress. I was ignorant of the rules."

The old woman was furious: "How can you not understand what I'm saying? Once you go in... you'll naturally be able to see Her Majesty the Empress."

"What's all the noise about?"

A woman walked out from the other end of the corridor, rubbing her temples.

Under the moonlight, she wore a crescent-white long dress, her jet-black hair casually draped over her shoulders, with only a single hairpin adorning her temple. In the moonlight, she could clearly see that the hairpin was designed as a phoenix.

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty the Empress." The nanny hurriedly bowed to the Empress.

Princess Jia Hua turned around and bowed to the Empress: "This humble woman greets Your Majesty the Empress."

The Empress stared at Princess Jiahua with a puzzled look, her brows furrowed. Before the nanny could speak, Princess Jiahua explained, "I am a princess from Northern Chu who is being sent to marry a foreign prince. I have been staying at the Seventh Prince's residence these days. Today, I accompanied the Seventh Prince to the palace to attend the banquet. I am absolutely a dutiful girl, and I am truly in love with the Seventh Prince. I beg Your Majesty to grant my request."

She spoke so quickly that even the old nanny couldn't stop her.

The Empress's brows were already furrowed with anger. She pulled Princess Jia Hua up, took a jade bracelet from her wrist, and put it on her hand: "It's getting late. You should go back now."

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

"But..." The nanny was about to say something more, but the Empress glared at her, and she immediately fell silent.

The Empress also sent people to escort Princess Jiahua out of Fengyi Palace.

Once everyone had walked away, the Empress slapped the old woman across the face: "Kneel down!"

The old woman panicked and knelt on the ground.

Disappointment filled the Empress's eyes. She glanced at the quiet palace and demanded, "Who's in there?"

"Why is Your Majesty so angry? I just wanted to see with you the person that the Seventh Prince has taken a liking to."

The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang came out yawning, a smile playing on his lips, but barely concealing his anger in his eyes: "The Empress is not well, don't stand there, go inside and rest."

After saying that, he turned to leave, but was stopped by the Empress: "Seventh Prince went to the battlefield at a young age, fighting in the east and the north. When he returned to the capital, he handed over military power to you immediately. He has never had any disloyal intentions. I beg Your Majesty to be lenient with the girl you have finally taken a liking to."

The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang paused, looking at the Empress with displeasure: "Your Majesty is overthinking things. How could I possibly compete with the Seventh Prince for a woman?"

As the Empress watched the Southern Emperor's retreating figure, her heart pounded, and she coughed incessantly, covering her mouth. She said to the palace maid beside her, "Go and tell the Seventh Prince that I am very satisfied with Miss Zhao. Miss Zhao is unfamiliar with this place, so please take good care of her in the future."
