Emerging from Fengyi Palace, Princess Jiahua felt completely weak until she saw the Seventh Prince, at which point she gritted her teeth and quickened her pace.
"Why do you look so pale?" The Seventh Prince took a few steps forward and supported her swaying body.
Princess Jia Hua shook her head: "It's alright, let's go quickly."
"Your Highness, please wait."
A palace maid chased after them and relayed the Empress's words. The Seventh Prince immediately understood what was going on, his face turning terribly gloomy. He helped her walk back.
Princess Jia Hua finally breathed a sigh of relief after getting into the carriage.
"It was my carelessness; I didn't expect this." The Seventh Prince looked guilty. He had never been on guard against the Empress, thinking that what difference would it make if the Empress met with him?
But to everyone's surprise, that person was still up to no good and managed to trick people away by using the Empress's name.
Moreover, it was the empress's personal maid who came to invite them.
The seventh prince's eyes were filled with disappointment.
"How much longer until you set off?" Princess Jiahua looked at the other person, her palms sweating. She was worried that as soon as the Seventh Prince left, the person in the palace would immediately summon her to the palace.
That person has absolutely no sense of shame.
Some people crave something more and more the more they can't have it.
Especially for an emperor who is used to being obeyed, how could he accept others' disobedience?
The seventh prince's face was tense, and for the first time he began to question whether he had done something wrong.
Does such a person really deserve to be emperor?
"Ten days left."
Princess Jia Hua's heart skipped a beat.
"I will enter the palace again tomorrow and will not leave easily until I have settled you properly," the Seventh Prince said.
Princess Jia Hua didn't know how to thank the Seventh Prince.
The next day
The seventh prince entered the palace early in the morning.
First, he went to see the Empress to apologize, and then he went to see the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang. He did not mention what happened last night, but simply handed over the defense map to the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang.
"Father, I am willing but unable to do so. I am afraid I cannot entrust you with such an important task. I beg you to choose another general."
The Southern Emperor's expression changed slightly: "Are you threatening me?"
The Seventh Prince shook his head: "Father, you misunderstand. Your son is timid. I heard that this time the five kingdoms have joined forces and sent a million strong army to attack the Southern Frontier. The Southern Frontier has been fighting for years and has already caused a lot of resentment. Your son only has 200,000 troops under his command, which is not enough to resist the alliance of the five kingdoms."
"A mere million..." The Southern Frontier Emperor said with disdain, "Don't forget you are a war god. How can you back down? I believe you can turn the tide and turn defeat into victory."
The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang smiled and said, "Seventh Prince, you were wrong just now. I intend to let you lead an army of 100,000. Three months will be enough."
The Seventh Prince's pupils contracted as he stared at the Southern Border Emperor in disbelief.
A hundred thousand against a million? Isn't that just a death sentence?
"There is a concubine named Li in the Xiao Kingdom. It is said that she is so beautiful that no one can rival her. She can even dance on the palm of your hand. I want you to attack the Xiao Kingdom first and send her here within three months!" The Emperor of the Southern Frontier showed a look of infatuation and covetousness on his face.
The Seventh Prince stared at the Southern Border Emperor for a long time, unable to recover from the shock.
What was he after all these years of fighting in the north and south?
Just to steal a woman?
Seeing that the Seventh Prince remained silent, the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang frowned and said, "Seventh Prince, as long as you send Consort Li here, I will bestow a marriage upon you and Miss Zhao from Northern Chu. What do you say?"
The seventh prince came to his senses.
"I've used some underhanded methods, but I've only refrained from exposing them because you're my son. If you just ask, how could I refuse?" The Southern Emperor slowly sat up, letting out a lazy yawn.
Looking dejected, he said, "How could I possibly become estranged from you because of a Miss Zhao?"
"Is Father Emperor really telling the truth?" the Seventh Prince asked in return.
The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang nodded: "A gentleman's word is as good as gold."
The seventh prince knelt on the ground and said in a deep voice, "Your subject accepts the decree and thanks you."
As he looked down, he overlooked the mocking smile on the face of the Southern Border Emperor.
Soon the seventh prince moved up the date of his departure for the expedition, and set off three days later. Before leaving, he left behind a dozen or so of his trusted men to guard the prince's residence.
"If anything happens to me, immediately take Miss Zhao back to Northern Chu without fail."
"yes."
Before the Seventh Prince set off for the expedition, he came to Princess Jiahua's courtyard and said, "My father promised me that he would bestow a marriage upon my return from the expedition."
Princess Jia Hua nodded.
Going to war was his mission, and she knew he couldn't resist.
"I'm fine, you don't need to worry."
"Um."
The two sat down quietly and chatted for a while, played a game of chess, and had dinner together. It wasn't until after dark that the Seventh Prince got up and left.
The next day, before dawn, the sound of drums filled the air. Princess Jiahua stood under the eaves, her brow furrowed.
"My lord, His Highness is a war god, he will definitely be alright."
Princess Jiahua shook her head: "It's easy to dodge a spear in the open, but hard to guard against an arrow in the dark, especially since this time there are only 100,000 troops."
The embroidered book remained silent.
Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.
Reports of victory came one after another, and the Seventh Prince's army was advancing like a whirlwind, winning every battle.
That day
Uninvited guests arrived at the Seventh Prince's residence. A large number of Imperial Guards surrounded the residence, causing Princess Jia Hua's eyelids to twitch violently.
"A group of assassins have recently arrived in Jincheng, and they are after the Seventh Prince's residence. His Majesty has issued an edict requesting that you, young lady, enter the palace to hide."
Princess Jia Hua's expression darkened slightly: "How could there be assassins right under the emperor's nose?"
“Miss, these assassins must be seeking revenge. They’re all a bunch of reckless people. How could they possibly distinguish where they’re going to assassinate someone?” the eunuch said.
Princess Jia Hua clenched her fists, a sharp pain shooting through her, forcing herself to calm down. She looked around and suddenly realized that everyone was under control.
It seems I absolutely have to go to the palace today.
