Chapter 246 Choosing a New Emperor

Now look what's happened, he's been caught red-handed.

The Southern Emperor stepped forward sullenly: "Seventh Prince, I only wanted to test whether she was loyal to you."

"Testing?" The Seventh Prince's fingers gripping the sword hilt turned slightly white. He looked up at the Southern Border Emperor with the same gaze he would give a dead man.

The cold gaze made the Southern Emperor shudder, and he felt a pang of regret.

He shouldn't have been in such a hurry.

"Gentlemen, I have fought on the battlefield, risked my life to protect my home and country, but my only request has been ignored by my father. So why should I continue to fight? I might as well surrender. As long as I am willing to swallow my pride, no matter which country wins, I will be rewarded with a noble title."

Upon hearing this, the civil and military officials panicked: "Your Highness, you mustn't!"

The seventh prince surrendered with his troops and was safe, but the fate of the others was uncertain.

Upon hearing this, the Southern Emperor also lost his temper: "You wouldn't dare!"

The Seventh Prince sneered, meeting the Southern Emperor's gloomy gaze: "There is another way. Before I set off for the campaign, I will choose a new emperor. Only then can I go to the battlefield with peace of mind."

"Seventh Prince, do you know what you're saying?" The Southern Border Emperor roared in fury, "I am the Emperor, how dare you defy me?"

"The Emperor died suddenly, and a new Emperor ascended the throne. What's wrong with that?" The Seventh Prince raised his chin, his face full of arrogance.

Having said all that, it's tantamount to tearing off all pretense of civility.

The Seventh Prince stood on the steps, looking down at the Southern Border Emperor with a gaze that grew colder and colder. Only then did the Southern Border Emperor realize that the Seventh Prince really dared to do such a thing.

With 500,000 troops in his hands, who would dare disobey him?

"You cannot listen to his words, Seventh Prince. You are rebelling, and you will be despised by the world. I can spare you the trouble because of our father-son relationship, as long as you hand over your military power..." The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang spread his palms out to the Seventh Prince.

The Seventh Prince's lips curled into a bloodthirsty smile, sending a chill down the spine of the Southern Border Emperor.

He was certain that if he compromised today, he would surely die.

"Gentlemen, have you made up your minds?" The Seventh Prince's gaze swept over all the civil and military officials.

One of them stepped forward: "Your Majesty, I humbly propose that His Majesty abdicate in favor of Your Highness, who may then ascend the throne immediately."

"Your humble servant seconds this suggestion."

"Your Highness, you are now the most suitable candidate."

The Seventh Prince shook his head: "I have no interest in the throne."

"Your Highness, have you considered that if someone other than you were to rise to power, they might not be able to tolerate you in the future?" the minister urged anxiously.

"Insolence! Insolence!" The Southern Emperor was furious, clutching his chest. "You traitors, how dare you follow the Seventh Prince in his reckless ways! I will kill you all!"

The men trembled slightly. The thought that all their years of subservience had only brought them humiliation made them decide to go all out.

"Your Highness, we swear to follow you to the death."

"We beg Your Highness to ascend the throne."

"Your Highness!"

The crowd shouted in unison.

The Seventh Prince narrowed his eyes, looking at the enraged Southern Emperor who was acting like a clown, his eyes filled with nothing but mockery and endless anger.

All those years of loyal service, he was wrong in the end.

not worth!

The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang looked at the Seventh Prince: "If you commit patricide, the world will not tolerate you! You will surely be punished by Heaven!"

The Seventh Prince's lips curled into a smile. There were far too many ways to kill someone; why bother doing it himself?

Just then, a voice announced from outside the door that the Empress had arrived.

The emperor of the Southern Frontier showed a look of joy.

When the Empress entered, she saw the civil and military officials kneeling all over the courtyard, as well as the bloodstains on the ground. She understood what had happened; she had already figured out the whole story before she came.

"Empress, please help me persuade the seventh prince! He is plotting a rebellion!"

The Empress glanced at the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang with disdain. She then approached the Seventh Prince and softened her voice, saying, "You have always cherished your reputation. You don't need to tarnish yourself for someone like this. It's not worth it."

"Empress!" The Emperor of Southern Xinjiang cried out in alarm.

"He can die, but not by your hand, Seventh Prince. If there is no emperor in the Southern Frontier, the morale of the army will be shaken and the people will be terrified. Now is not the time to kill him. As long as he has no power, he cannot do evil." The Empress said gently, "Seventh Prince, now is not the time to be angry. Millions of people in the Southern Frontier are waiting for you, and there are 500,000 troops waiting for you. It is not too late to deal with him after you return victorious."
