The Empress took the Seventh Prince's hand and shook her head slightly at him: "You must not let a moment of anger lead you to bear the stigma of regicide and become a sinner for all time."
The fierce look in the Seventh Prince's eyes gradually faded, and he took a deep breath.
Seeing this, the Empress continued, "The Emperor is indeed hateful, but it's not worth sacrificing one's entire life for him."
It's unclear which words touched the Seventh Prince, but he took a deep breath, raised his hand, sheathed his sword, and looked at the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang.
The Southern Emperor trembled, and moved his lips unwillingly, but ultimately had no chance to say any more outrageous things.
"To let him go like this is no different from aiding and abetting evil," the Seventh Prince secretly vowed, determined to deal with him this time so that he would have no worries about the future.
The Southern Emperor's face stiffened: "Seventh Prince, I can assure you that this time, I will not lay a finger on the Seventh Prince's Consort."
"You have repeatedly gone back on your word, and I have long since stopped trusting you."
The emperor of the Southern Frontier remained silent, sullen.
At this point, the Empress proposed to appoint a regent to temporarily govern the country, and to have the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang feign illness in the harem. The Empress winked at the Seventh Prince.
It's as if they're saying that if the Southern Emperor takes some time to recuperate, there's always a chance he'll die suddenly, and then it would be perfectly legitimate to establish a new emperor.
The seventh prince pondered for a moment.
"Prime Minister Yan, the Third Prince, or the Duke of Qi—any one of these three could serve as regent, enough to win the hearts and minds of all officials," the Empress continued to suggest.
The Seventh Prince pursed his lips and remained silent.
“Your Highness, I think the Empress’s suggestion is excellent,” a minister stepped forward to respond.
Just as the Seventh Prince was hesitating, a guard reminded him that Princess Jia Hua had woken up. The Seventh Prince's eyelids twitched, and the Empress immediately said, "Go and visit the Seventh Prince's wife first. Let's gather some ministers and discuss this further. Don't keep the Seventh Prince's wife waiting."
"Yes!" The Seventh Prince was indeed extremely anxious and couldn't wait to see how Princess Jia Hua was doing.
After soaking in the bath for most of the night, Princess Jiahua's head was still spinning. When she opened her eyes, she was startled to find two palace maids supporting her.
"Seventh Prince's Consort, rest assured, His Highness returned last night, and you are fine," one of them said.
Princess Jiahua was astonished. Could it be that what she saw yesterday was all true?
Having changed into clean clothes, he asked in a hoarse voice, "Where is His Highness?"
"His Highness is at Xuanhe Palace."
Xuanhe Palace, isn't that where Consort Mei lives? It's been at least five or six hours, yet she's still there.
She hurriedly tried to get up but found that her limbs were weak and she couldn't even stand up. The palace maid said, "Seventh Prince's Consort, the imperial physician said that it will take at least three days for your body to recover."
What's wrong with me?
The palace maid stammered, "I was poisoned by the aphrodisiac."
Princess Jiahua's face turned cold instantly, and she sighed inwardly that an emperor could be so despicable and shameless, using such underhanded methods.
Footsteps approached, and someone at the door called out, "Your Highness."
She immediately looked up.
Sure enough, the Seventh Prince rushed over, looking apologetic: "I'm sorry, I startled you."
Seeing the bloodstains on his armor, Princess Jia Hua knew that there must have been a fight last night. She shook her head: "Why did Your Highness return yesterday? Has His Majesty blamed you?"
The Seventh Prince tried to keep his tone as calm as possible, too ashamed to offer up what he was carrying. He sighed and said, "I won't blame you when I need your help."
"Will Your Highness continue on your journey?"
"Um!"
Princess Jia Hua's heart sank. She couldn't imagine what would happen if the Seventh Prince had already gone to the battlefield. Would she be left helpless and desperate?
The southern border was left to be slaughtered by the emperor.
"Don't worry, I will definitely give you an explanation this time." The Seventh Prince supported her, his tone sharp.
Princess Jia Hua was still uneasy. As long as the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang did not die, he would eventually cause trouble.
But the Southern Emperor was his biological father after all, so why would he kill his own father for his own sake?
So Princess Jia Hua could only nod.
The Seventh Prince helped her to Xuanhe Palace. They stopped at the palace gate, where two palace maids took over her support. He instructed, "I'll be right back."
Princess Jia Hua nodded.
The Seventh Prince re-entered Xuanhe Palace. When the Empress saw him return, she gently stepped forward and asked how the Seventh Prince's wife was doing.
"He's alright."
"Thank God, that's good."
On the way here, the Seventh Prince had already given it serious consideration and accepted the Empress's suggestion that Prime Minister Yan temporarily take over the administration of the court, and that the Southern Border Imperial Pass be closed to all visitors.
The Empress breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, saying, "After all, he is your father. This is for the best. Let's see if he will sincerely repent."
The seventh prince responded, and then said to the empress, "All of Father Emperor's confidants must be executed today."
"Seventh Prince!" Upon hearing this, the Emperor of Southern Xinjiang jumped up in anger, pointed at the Seventh Prince's nose, and cursed him as disobedient and unfilial: "I have already agreed to confine you to your quarters, don't push your luck!"
The Seventh Prince ignored the Southern Emperor, raised his hand and gave an order, and all the eunuchs and guards around the Southern Emperor were dragged out.
"Seventh Brother!!"
"They should all be beaten to death!"
These people didn't have time to beg for mercy before they were gagged and beaten to death in public.
The Southern Emperor was furious and enraged to see all his trusted confidants, whom he had nurtured for many years, dead. He wished he could tear the Seventh Prince to pieces.
But when the Seventh Prince came face to face, the Southern Emperor's momentum weakened again, and he could only grit his teeth and say, "Fine."
The Seventh Prince turned to the Empress and said, "Mother, the Seventh Prince's wife is unfamiliar with the place and will not cause trouble. May I ask that you grant me permission to protect her?"
"Don't worry, I will definitely do it," the Empress assured her confidently.
The seventh prince then left with peace of mind.
