Chapter 49 I Only Have One Daughter

Shen Ruyun didn't even have time to take off her wedding dress before coming to Yuehua Pavilion to pay her respects. She happened to meet Tao Shi at the door and blushed as she called her "Second Aunt".

Tao smiled enigmatically: "Isn't your niece-in-law coming to pay respects to her mother-in-law at this time a little bit? Aren't you afraid her mother-in-law will be angry?"

Before news of Princess Jiahua's return spread, Shen Ruyun was incredibly kind to Yuan Fuling. Now that she's unwilling to offend Princess Jiahua, it's too late!

Several people entered the door

When Tao saw Princess Jiahua, the smile on her face instantly disappeared, and she unconsciously lowered her voice: "Sister-in-law, you're finally back. It's been so long, but you haven't changed at all. I'm so envious."

More than a decade ago, the two were sisters-in-law. Tao was completely suppressed by Princess Jiahua and didn't even have a chance to breathe. In fact, she suffered several losses at Princess Jiahua's hands.

Over time, this left a shadow in Tao's heart.

Looking at the other person, I couldn't help but tremble.

Princess Jia Hua nodded slightly: "Second sister-in-law, you still have such a sweet tongue. Please sit down."

Tao smiled and sighed, then sat down on a chair to the side.

Shen Ruyun, dressed in a striking red wedding gown, stood before Princess Jiahua and said, "Mother, your daughter-in-law has come to offer you tea."

"Serving tea?" Princess Jiahua frowned. "How come I remember serving tea was tomorrow? How come the rules in the capital have changed while I was away?"

"No, no, I'm afraid my nephew's wife was worried about being impolite earlier and came over to apologize," Tao explained with a smile.

Princess Jia Hua hummed but remained silent.

Shen Ruyun accepted the tea offered by the maid, knelt down before Princess Jiahua, and raised it high, saying, "Please have some tea, Mother."

Princess Jiahua did not accept the cup of tea, and even pretended that Shen Ruyun did not exist, and chatted with Tao Shi on her own, which made Tao Shi feel a little embarrassed.

"I remember Huan'er is twelve years old this year, isn't she?"

Song Huan was the eldest daughter of the Tao family.

Tao was somewhat surprised when her daughter was mentioned out of the blue: "Yes, the princess has a good memory."

"Yue'er is all alone and quite lonely. Starting tomorrow, send Huan'er to Yuehua Pavilion. I've invited Granny Yang to personally teach her manners." As soon as Princess Jiahua spoke, Tao was both surprised and delighted. Granny Yang was no ordinary servant; she had taught the previous empress and was someone many families would pay money to have.

Any girl who had been taught by Granny Yang would be sought after by various families to become their matriarch after she came of age.

Ms. Tao was overjoyed; she knew she had made the right decision to come.

"Okay, okay, don't worry, I will definitely go back and tell Huan-jie that she will never compete with Yue-jie." Tao-shi finally understood that Princess Jia-hua was not cold-hearted, but rather that she was wholeheartedly devoted to Song Yue. As long as she treated Song Yue well, she was sure to please the princess.

"Isn't Feng Ge'er getting on in years?" Princess Jiahua hesitated before speaking.

Tao's heart was pounding in her chest.

Princess Jia Hua rubbed her temples: "Let me think about it. This child is definitely a good one. We mustn't let him go to waste."

Upon hearing this, Tao wanted nothing more than to kowtow to Princess Jiahua: "Then I thank the princess on behalf of Feng-ge'er."

With both children's futures secured, this must be the happiest time for Tao Shi during this period. She glanced at Shen Ruyun, whose hands were trembling beside her.

Princess Jia Hua didn't even give Song Yue a proper look. She pulled Song Yue along, glanced at her rough fingers, and frowned.

“Princess, don’t worry, I guarantee I can make your hands white and tender.” Xiu Shu responded quickly.

Princess Jia Hua sighed more than once.

"Ruyun!"

An unpleasant voice came from beside me: "What are you doing?"

Song Yue turned around and saw Song Hengchuan rushing over angrily. He helped Shen Ruyun up, and Shen Ruyun's hands were trembling. She asked in surprise, "Husband, why are you here?"

Song Hengchuan was too embarrassed to say that most of the guests had left. He couldn't bear their ridicule and mockery, so he simply went back to the backyard. When he arrived at the bridal chamber, he didn't see Shen Ruyun. The maid said that she had come to Yuehua Pavilion to apologize.

He got anxious as soon as he heard that and came without saying a word.

Sure enough, he saw Shen Ruyun kneeling on the ground, while several people sitting around chatting and laughing. Song Hengchuan's anger flared up instantly.

“Mother, I know you are angry, but Ruyun is innocent. You shouldn’t take your anger out on her.” Song Hengchuan’s forehead veins bulged. “Please say something to apologize to Ruyun. After all, Ruyun is here to live with her son, not to be bullied.”

Upon hearing this, Tao stared wide-eyed at Song Hengchuan: "Brother Chuan, how can an elder apologize to a junior? Are you out of your mind?"

"Second Aunt, Ruyun was not well received on her first day at the Duke of Jingguo's mansion. How will the people below view her in the future?" Song Hengchuan said confidently, "As her husband, I have an obligation to protect her."

Tao was at a loss for words, unsure whether to laugh or something else, so she simply shut up and looked at Princess Jiahua.

After all, they are mother and son. How could they not have feelings for each other after so many years?

Princess Jia Hua gently raised her head, her gaze passing over Song Hengchuan and landing on Shen Ruyun's face: "Miss Shen, don't you have anything to say?"

The phrase "Miss Shen" implies a lack of acceptance of Shen Ruyun as a daughter-in-law.

Shen Ruyun's face turned pale. She was pampered at home and had never suffered such grievances.

Her eyes reddened as she looked at Song Hengchuan: "Husband, it is I who have come to pay my respects to my mother and apologize."

“Ruyun.” Song Hengchuan gently took Shen Ruyun’s hand and took a deep breath: “Today I will definitely seek justice for you.”

Princess Jia Hua chuckled: "A bride who doesn't follow the rules has come up to me with such eager eyes. I've already shown her respect by not chasing her away since she just entered the house. Song Hengchuan, how dare you! You dare to flaunt your power in front of me!"
