Chapter 230 Regardless of one's own son

"Silver? House? School? Chen Yaozu, you really dare to dream big."

She glanced around at the onlookers, her voice neither too loud nor too soft, yet clearly audible to everyone:

"Where were you when I caught your father and that Miss Zhao having an affair and was almost beaten to death by him? Your precious Miss Zhao promised you wealth and glory, and you just watched me die. Now you remember I'm your mother?"

The surrounding diners, who had been pointing and whispering about Gan Li, suddenly understood what had happened after hearing her explanation. Their gazes towards Chen Yaozu changed from sympathy to disdain.

"So that's how it is. That kid is a real scoundrel."

"Exactly, they don't even want their own mother anymore, yet they come to ask for money. What an ingrate."

"This Boss Gan really has it tough, having such a son."

"I knew it. If there wasn't a reason, who would be willing to abandon their own son?"

The crowd buzzed with discussion, and accusations rained down on Chen Yaozu like a tidal wave. His face flushed red with embarrassment and anger.

"What do you know! Is it wrong for me to want a better life? If she loved me as her son, she wouldn't hold a grudge against me for this! She's an irresponsible mother! I'm going to ruin her reputation!"

As he spoke, he grabbed a shard of broken porcelain from beside him and started throwing it at Gan Li.

Ganli dodged quickly, and the porcelain shards scattered across the clean floor, shattering once again.

She stared coldly at Chen Yaozu, her eyes devoid of any warmth. Just then, the village head arrived hastily with several of his men.

"What's going on here? Manager Gan, is someone causing trouble?" The village head frowned as he looked at the mess on the ground.

"Village head, you have to stand up for me!" Chen Yaozu cried out as if grasping at a straw, sobbing and wailing, "This woman, she doesn't support me, she even kicked me out of the house, and now I can't even afford to eat!"

The village head looked at Gan Li, who sneered and told him the whole story.

Everyone in town knew about Gan Li and Chen Danian's affair. When the village head heard that Chen Yaozu had come to cause trouble and even dared to turn the tables, his face darkened. He looked at Chen Yaozu and said sternly:

"Chen Yaozu, you're so young and you're already causing trouble here, even slandering your own mother. Do you have any conscience at all?"

"I...I..." Chen Yaozu stammered, unable to speak.

"We have all witnessed Manager Gan's character. You have damaged the restaurant's property today, so you must pay for it at the original price!"

When Chen Yaozu heard that he had to pay compensation, he panicked. Where would he get the money? He looked pitifully at Gan Li, hoping she would let him go.

To everyone's surprise, Gan Li spoke up: "Village head, he's still young and doesn't know any better. Let's just let it go this time. He doesn't need to pay compensation."

The village head and the surrounding diners were somewhat surprised, not expecting Gan Li to let him off so easily. Chen Yaozu also breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Gan Li was all bark and no bite and that she still cared about him.

Unexpectedly, Gan Li changed the subject: "However, mistakes must be punished, otherwise they won't learn their lesson. Village head, why don't you give him ten strokes of the cane? That way, when he wants to do something bad in the future, he'll remember the pain he felt today."

The village head was taken aback for a moment, then nodded: "That will also work."

With that, he waved his hand, and the people behind him grabbed Chen Yaozu and slung him onto the bench, where they began to beat him with a board.

A sharp pain shot through his buttocks, and Chen Yaozu realized he had been tricked. He struggled desperately, shouting, "You dare hit me! I'm your own son! If you hit me, I'll tell my father and he'll deal with you!"

Gan Mingyi sneered: "Your father is in dire straits himself, do you think he can still protect you?"

Chen Yaozu couldn't answer, he just kept making pig-like screams.
