Chapter 26 A Bloodbath Caused by Five Taels of Silver

Although Zhao was immersed in grief, Gan Li's reaction only added fuel to the fire, making her even angrier. Just as she was about to continue her attack, she was suddenly interrupted by a sharp voice: "Shut up!"

Zhao and Ganli both looked towards the door, only to find that it was Old Man Gan. Not only him, but behind him, Old Lady Gan, the two Gan brothers, their second sister-in-law Sun, and several children had all arrived in an orderly fashion.

Old Man Gan's face was so gloomy it could drip water. He deliberately avoided Gan Li's gaze and spoke directly to Gan Mingli:

"What are you all standing there for? Hurry up and help your wife up, let's go home!"

Upon hearing this, Zhao became extremely agitated: "I won't leave! I won't leave even if it means dying!"

Seeing her mother driven to this state, Zhao's daughter, Gan Qiao, could no longer control her emotions. Tears welled up in her swollen eyes again, and she rushed to Zhao's side, crying, "Mother!"

Upon seeing her daughter, Zhao was overwhelmed by despair for the future. The thought of her daughter soon being reduced to a lowly status made her heart ache as if it were being cut by a knife. The mother and daughter embraced each other and cried their hearts out, as if they wanted to pour out all their grievances and injustices.

More and more villagers gathered to watch. Although they didn't know what had happened, they were all moved by the heart-wrenching cries and felt pity for the cries, their eyes reddening.

Based on what Zhao had said earlier, some people began to look at Gan Li with strange eyes and whisper among themselves.

"Judging from this situation, it's probably that troublemaker who caused the trouble again!"

"Old man Gan is really senile. I told you long ago that his daughter is a money-losing burden, but he still spoils her like she's nothing. He's really reaping what he sowed!"

"That Ganli is no good either, she's a troublemaker! Zhao Shi is such a good person, and she's driven her to this state!"

These accusations and speculations were like invisible swords piercing Ganli, leaving her feeling both wronged and confused.

Although Zhao was venting her emotions, she could also tell that things weren't as simple as they seemed.

Over there, Old Man Gan was still urging him on. Gan Mingli quickly stepped forward, trying to pull Zhao Shi off the ground, saying, "Can't you talk about it back home? Why do you have to make a fool of yourself here!"

Seeing that her husband still wasn't on her side, Zhao broke down and said, "I'm going to say it right here! I've done nothing wrong, and whoever has done something wrong is the one who should be ashamed!"

Gan Mingli was at his wit's end. He was afraid that his sister would notice something, so he became more and more anxious to pull Zhao Shi away. Even though she was used to physical labor, she was still a woman and how could she possibly pull a grown man like him?

Just as he was about to be dragged away, a hand suddenly reached out from the side and stood directly between Gan Mingli and Zhao Shi.

"Wait!"
