Chapter 9 My Divorce from Chen Danian

Gan Li was stunned. Old Man Gan had consulted doctors countless times for his daughter, but her condition never improved.

Later, a doctor, unable to bear it any longer, hinted to them that the doctor might not be able to cure the illness, but the sorceress might have a solution.

The Gan family, with nothing to lose, inquired everywhere and spent a lot of money to invite the most famous sorceress in the surrounding villages, who finally cured the man.

After that, he recovered, but his daughter seemed to become a completely different person...

Old Man Gan sighed, "If it weren't for our negligence back then, Ali wouldn't have gotten that serious illness, and she wouldn't be like this now. In the end, it's all our own fault."

Grandma Gan paused in wiping away her tears, but didn't say anything, clearly agreeing with what her husband said.

Ultimately, it's still them who owe their daughter.

As the couple remained silent, they heard a commotion outside, with Zhao's voice being particularly loud. Old Mrs. Gan said with some displeasure, "What time is it? What is the eldest daughter-in-law still arguing about?"

Old Man Gan was also a little unhappy, but then he thought of something and sighed, "In the end, it is our Gan family that has let them down."

Hearing this, Old Mrs. Gan felt a little breathless. Although she knew her husband was right, she was still a little angry. So she stood up and said, "I'll go take a look."

"What are you going to do?" Old Man Gan asked anxiously, grabbing her hand, but the force aggravated his wounds, causing him to hiss in pain.

Seeing this, Old Mrs. Gan quickly turned around and carefully helped him lie back on the bed. Looking at her husband's pained expression, tears welled up in her eyes again: "Perhaps we should call a doctor to take a look?"

"Why bother hiring a doctor? We're short of money right now, why waste it? I can just bear it."

"How can I bear this?" Old Mrs. Gan said, her voice choked with sobs.

But her husband was right. There was still such a huge hole to fill, and the family was short of money. If they couldn't come up with the money by then, their whole family might be in trouble...

"Father, Mother!"

A voice interrupted Old Mrs. Gan's thoughts. She looked up and saw her eldest son push open the door and come in. And behind him... was her daughter who had secretly slipped away that morning!

When Grandma Gan saw her daughter, the wrinkles on her face smoothed out with joy, and she exclaimed in surprise, "Ali? You, you've come..."

But then she remembered that the old man had fainted from anger that morning, and the culprit's daughter had quietly left. She felt a little uncomfortable, and the corners of her mouth that had just turned up were forcibly suppressed. Old Mrs. Gan tried her best to keep a straight face and turned her head away from her.

Old Man Gan's feelings were also very complicated. He was naturally happy to see his daughter. But after the initial joy, he thought about his daughter's personality and guessed that she was still unwilling to give up. He guessed that she might have come up with some new idea to force him to ask his eldest daughter-in-law for her family's recipes. This gave him a headache, and he didn't smile at all.

Gan Li recognized the two people in front of her as the original owner's parents, but seeing their unfriendly expressions, she felt a little nervous.

Gan Mingli, however, pulled her to the elderly Gan couple and said happily:

"Father, Mother! Let me tell you, we misunderstood our little sister today! She left not because she was heartless, but because she was worried about Father's health, so she ran back to town to fetch a doctor for him!"

What?

Upon hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Gan exchanged a surprised glance and turned to look behind them. When they saw a doctor carrying a medicine box following them in, Mrs. Gan's lips, which she had just suppressed, couldn't help but curl up again.

She looked at her daughter with emotion, but then noticed the blood-soaked bandage on her daughter's head. Her expression changed immediately, and she asked, "What happened to your head?"

Before Gan Li could speak, Gan Mingli interrupted, "What else could it be? My little sister wanted to fetch a doctor and ask that old woman surnamed Lü for money. Most likely, that old woman refused, so she and her son beat her up!"

He spoke with righteous indignation and conviction, as if he had witnessed it himself.

Gan Li was stunned and quickly waved her hands: "No, no, no, that's not how it is..." What does this have to do with anything?

Although the original owner did have a "fight" with Chen Danian, it wasn't for that reason at all.

But Old Mrs. Gan couldn't listen to anything at that moment. Having already seen her daughter's wounds, she was convinced that Chen Danian was involved. Hearing her son's words, she immediately realized the truth was indeed true!

She felt both relieved and furious. Relieved that her daughter was indeed filial! Furious that Chen Danian dared to use such a cruel method!

When she saw her daughter waving her hands in a 'terrified' expression, Grandma Gan felt heartbroken again—her daughter must have suffered terribly! That's why she didn't dare to tell the truth even in front of her parents.

Thinking of this, Old Lady Gan could no longer hold back. She rushed forward and hugged her daughter tightly, crying out, "My darling!"

"You've suffered, my good child! Those heartless Chen Danian and Granny Lü, that black-hearted mother and son, they treated you so cruelly, may they die a horrible death!"

Grandma Gan's words were partly out of concern for her daughter and partly an expression of her emotions, so she spoke somewhat without thinking. After she finished speaking, Grandpa Gan and his son Gan Mingli's expressions changed, and they both looked at Gan Li.

That old woman Lu is one thing, but Chen Danian is Gan Li's life! Normally, even a few complaints about Chen Danian would upset her. Now, Old Lady Gan is cursing him to a terrible death; won't Gan Li cause a huge uproar?

But to everyone's surprise, Gan Li remained calm, as if she hadn't heard what he said at all, her composure was rather strange.
