Huang Qiuyan and Zhu Xingchang kept their eyes on Ren Jin, noticing that he only lowered his head to drink tea, neither refusing nor speaking.
The two exchanged a anxious glance, and Huang Qiuyan had no choice but to be more direct, "Don't worry, if you can really get your uncle's doors and windows supplied to the construction site, your Uncle Zhu and I will definitely not treat you unfairly."
Ren Jin raised an eyebrow. "Oh? How about not mistreating the law?"
"I've already spoken with your Uncle Zhu, and we'll give you a 10% commission." Huang Qiuyan gestured with her hands when she said 10%, as if it were a huge temptation.
Ren Jin remained noncommittal and then asked, "How much funding do you have for this?"
"Is 100,000 enough?" Huang Qiuyan asked cautiously yet expectantly.
Ren Jin curled his thin lips into a mocking smile.
Huang Qiuyan clearly had no concept of this contracting matter, which involved 100,000 yuan.
Zhu Xingchang probably realized the amount was too low, and immediately added, "If you're confident, we can mortgage the house and do it with you, as long as you guarantee there won't be any problems."
Ren Jin let out a cold laugh from his nose upon hearing this.
A building complex has many apartments and requires many doors and windows. The manpower and financial resources involved in contracting the project are far beyond what a small shop can handle. They offer a few hundred thousand yuan and expect him to spend a lot of energy building relationships and doing everything so that they can make money. This business is like him cooking a meal and serving it to them, and they just have to eat it. They even expect him to guarantee that the food is cooked and tastes good.
Even if he didn't care about the small kickbacks, he wouldn't do business with them even if the profits were split 50/50.
Not wanting to waste time explaining, Ren Jin gave them a fake smile. "You overestimate me. I call this a construction job, but really I'm just leading a group of villagers out to do manual labor and earn a meager living. How could such a lucrative job as purchasing doors and windows possibly fall into my hands?"
Huang Qiuyan was about to say something more anxiously when Ren Jin interrupted her, saying, "My dad and I haven't been in contact for over two years. He doesn't know my situation. Because of the pandemic, the construction site is closed, and all the construction team members have gone back to their hometowns. Now I can only make money by delivering food." As he spoke, Ren Jin took out his phone, opened a food delivery platform, and showed it to Huang Qiuyan, saying, "Look, I delivered over 600 orders last month and earned several thousand yuan."
Huang Qiuyan didn't believe it at first, but when she saw that Ren Jin's name and delivery data were indeed on the APP, her heart sank.
She recently met a relative of Ren Yayong's family, who told her that Ren Jin has become quite successful now. He received a resettlement house and has become a contractor, living a very good life.
Huang Qiuyan had made a scene with Ren Yayong about the demolished house, because when they got married, Ren Yayong had promised that she would get half of the old house. However, when she called Ren Yayong, he denied it to the death, and she didn't have any paper proof, so no matter how much she made a scene, it was useless. Later, she was so angry that she talked about it with Zhu Xingchang. Naturally, they talked about Ren Jin. As soon as Zhu Xingchang heard that Ren Jin was in the construction business, he immediately had an idea.
Their door and window business was already struggling, with monthly income barely enough to cover the family's living expenses. Since the pandemic, it's been on the verge of collapse. They've been hoping to rely on Ren Jin to supply doors and windows to construction sites. This way, they could earn a substantial amount, easily covering the family's living expenses and even helping Zhu Yifan buy a house for his wedding.
Seeing that there was no need to continue the meal, Ren Jin stood up and said to Huang Qiuyan, "I have to go out and pick up orders tonight, so I'll be leaving now."
Huang Qiuyan's smile froze, devoid of her previous enthusiasm and ingratiation. She didn't try to persuade her to stay. "Okay, I'll invite you to dinner again next time."
Ren Jin nodded casually. He and Huang Qiuyan both knew that this was just a polite remark, and Huang Qiuyan would not call him again.
Ren Jin couldn't quite describe his feelings. If he was disappointed, he had never had any feelings for Huang Qiuyan to begin with, nor did he have any expectations of her. But it wasn't that he felt nothing at all either.
After leaving the private room, Ren Jin thought for a moment, then looked around and prepared to find a waiter to pay the bill.
Huang Qiuyan is, after all, his biological mother. After all these years, it wouldn't be unreasonable to treat her to a meal.
Before the waiter could be found, Zhu Yifan's voice could be heard coming from inside the private room.
"I told you he couldn't possibly have any skills, yet you insisted on spending so much money to treat him to dinner. You're just wasting money on that meal." Zhu Yifan, who hadn't spoken all night, spoke with unusual sharpness.
Huang Qiuyan also said with frustration, "Your dad and I were hoping to earn more money to buy you a house and get married, but who knew he'd end up just delivering food."
Zhu Yifan's tone was full of anger, "Someone who didn't even graduate high school, what kind of big boss are you pretending to be, an engineer? It's a complete waste of time and money."
"Okay, that's enough. Let's call the waiter to pack it up; we can't waste this food."
Just then, the waiter arrived and asked, "Sir, is there anything you need?"
Ren Jin smirked, gestured towards the private room, and said, "The bill is in the room." He then put his hands in his pockets and left.

The doorbell rang for a while before Gu Yueji hurriedly came out of the bathroom.
She covered her wet hair with a towel, hurriedly drying it as she ran to open the door.
Hearing the incessant, urgent doorbell ringing, Gu Yueji knew the deliveryman was getting impatient.
The delivery came faster than usual tonight. Usually, she would place an order and then take a shower, and by the time she came out, the delivery still hadn't arrived. Tonight, she had just finished applying shower gel when the doorbell rang, so she hurriedly washed up, got dressed, and went out.
She opened the door, intending to apologize for keeping the other person waiting, but the "sorry" that was about to slip out stopped abruptly when she saw the person outside.
The imposing figure blocking the door, those deep eyes, and the same yellow outfit and blue mask as that day—Gu Yueji recognized Ren Jin at first glance.
