Chapter 4: Is Your Boyfriend Dead?

This was the first time Gu Yueji had seen him since that incident.

Upon being recognized, her first reaction was to pull the towel off her head and hold it in front of her chest.

Ren Jin didn't recognize Gu Yueji at first because she was wearing heavy makeup and a mask that day. If it weren't for the inexplicable defensiveness and displeasure in her eyes and the way she covered her chest, he wouldn't have remembered it was her.

Ren Jin had been standing there ringing the doorbell for almost 10 minutes. No one answered his phone, and there was no response when he knocked on the door. He was extremely annoyed. Thinking about Gu Yueji's argument with the deliveryman last time, his displeasure and sarcasm were clearly written on his face.

"No wonder that delivery guy argued with you. If we could file a customer complaint, I would file one against you too."

Gu Yueji initially felt embarrassed, but seeing the same impatient and mocking expression on his face as last time, all her guilt vanished.

"You arrived earlier than the time shown on the platform. If you had delivered it at the time shown, I certainly wouldn't have kept you waiting. Besides, you could have just left the food at the door and left; who wants you to wait?"

Ren Jin chuckled. "Does the world revolve around you? The platform only says you can't be late, it never says you can't arrive early. I'm glad I waited for you. When other deliverymen leave packages at convenience stores, you complain and call the police. If I lost your takeout, you'd probably send me to jail."

Gu Yueji didn't actually intend to call the police last time; she just wanted to scare the deliveryman into handing over the package. She didn't expect him to use this as an excuse to make a big deal out of it.

But she was too lazy to explain anymore, and instead went along with him, saying, "Yeah, I'm in charge of the laws in this country. I can send whoever I want to jail. Why don't you hurry up and give me the takeout? Are you waiting for me to send you in?"

She reached out to him to take the takeout, but Ren Jin stood still.

Her childish, petulant words amused him. He leaned back against the stair railing and casually started arguing with her, "Then I'm not leaving. Let's see how you're going to send me to prison?"

Gu Yueji glared at him, "Are you sick in the head?"

Ren Jin smiled jokingly, "You can help me cure it?"

The tall, imposing man stood there, and Gu Yueji had no idea what he wanted. "You want to go in, huh? Fine, I'll call the police right now." With that, she rushed into the house to grab her phone.

Ren Jin watched her angry back and didn't know whether to say she was alert or not.

She knows to call the police if something happens, but she left her door wide open in front of a strange man. Isn't she afraid he'll come in and close the door?

Ren Jin hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should go inside and scare her, when Gu Yueji strode out with her phone in hand, holding it up like a knife. "I'm calling the police right now!"

Ren Jin raised an eyebrow and smiled, waiting to see if she would really call the police, but the next second her phone rang.

Gu Yueji paused, looked at the caller ID on her phone, frowned, and answered after it rang for a while. She held the phone to her ear without making a sound, listened silently for a while, then took a deep breath before speaking, "If Ye Zurong borrowed it from you, go back to him. Why are you calling me?"

"If he doesn't answer your calls, keep calling until he does! What's the point of calling me?"

Gu Yueji became more and more agitated as she spoke, "What do you mean by 'all the money is with me?!' Ask him what kind of money he's made..."

Ren Jin stood there listening without feeling it was a waste of time. After having dinner with Huang Qiuyan tonight, he didn't want to go home, so he went out to run errands. Listening to Gu Yueji's passionate voice, it was indeed better than being at home in silence.

He lowered his head, lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and then looked up.

His gaze casually swept over Gu Yueji. She had just finished showering, and her makeup was gone, leaving her face smooth and fair. Her lips were pale red and moist, and her large eyes were bright and clear. Because of the argument, her eyes were wide open and piercing. Her hair was loosely draped over her shoulders, and the dense droplets of water dampened the thin shirt on her chest. When she spoke excitedly, her chest rose and fell, forming a faint arc.

Ren Jin looked at her with great interest; she seemed more pleasing to the eye than the other day.

Gu Yueji was oblivious to Ren Jin's gaze; her attention was entirely on the phone call. She had no idea that Ye Zurong had borrowed money from private individuals in addition to her bank loan. She didn't know who Ye Zurong had borrowed money from, nor where the money had gone. All she knew was that he had the audacity to tell others that all his money was with her.

This was the first time Gu Yueji had wanted to see Ye Zurong so much since the breakup. She wished he would appear in front of her right now so she could tear him apart with her own hands.

Every penny they spent together was on his dream business, and he's still paying off debts. Where did he get the money from her?

"I am telling you now, I have absolutely no relationship with Ye Zurong anymore. You can go find someone else to repay the money, but I'm not coming after me!"

Gu Yueji angrily hung up the phone and blocked the number. She then called Ye Zurong, but after several attempts, the line was always busy. Gu Yueji realized that Ye Zurong had blocked her.

Gu Yueji stomped her foot in anger and shouted uncontrollably, "Ye Zurong, may you get hit by a car and die!!"

Turning around and seeing Ren Jin, she was surprised for a moment before remembering him.

He looked up and gazed into the room behind her. Gu Yueji immediately closed the door ajar, alert. "What are you looking at?"

Ren Jin smiled mockingly, "Let's see if your boyfriend is really dead."

Gu Yueji was taken aback, only then remembering that she had told the deliveryman that Ye Zurong had died.

She snatched the takeout from his hand and, in doing so, vented the fire on him, saying, "If he dies, you can go find him too."

Then, with a slam, the door was closed.

Ren Jin looked at the door in front of him, which seemed to be about to slap him in the face, lowered his head and scratched his eyebrows, the corners of his lips slowly rising higher and higher.

Strangely enough, the gloom of the evening seemed to be blown away by her fan.
