It was already surprising enough that Gu Yueji, who should have been at home, suddenly appeared at the hotel, but with a half-naked man standing next to her, Gu Jiahui was so shocked that his eyes widened.
"Sister, what are you doing here?" Her gaze involuntarily turned to the man beside her. "And who is this?"
The man in front of him was half a head taller than him, with a tall and broad build. His bare upper body had clearly defined muscles, and his neat short hair highlighted his deep and rugged features. His slightly furrowed brows exuded a natural sense of oppression.
Although he was already a grown man, he still couldn't help but look up at the man in front of him.
Gu Yueji didn't dare stand too close to Ren Jin. He was shirtless, his belt was undone and hanging down, and the buttons on his pants weren't even fastened. His pants were loose and hung down to his lower abdomen. What was even more shameful was that there were several red marks on his body that she had made on him, some scratched and some bitten. An adult could tell at a glance how they were made.
The more she looked, the more embarrassed she became. She never expected that running away from home to book a hotel room with Ren Jin would lead to her encountering her own brother. She said shyly in a low voice, "This is your brother-in-law, Ren Jin."
Gu Jiahui had already guessed that there was only one man who could be alone in a room with his sister like this. Upon hearing Gu Yueji's formal introduction, he immediately gave Ren Jin a friendly smile and said, "Hello, brother-in-law."
Ren Jin nodded. This was the first time he had met Gu Yueji's family, including her beloved younger brother, Gu Jia Hui. Gu Jia Hui looked about five parts like Gu Yueji, especially with his eyes crinkling when he smiled, giving him the appearance of a male version of Gu Yueji.
Contrary to his expectations of a selfish and domineering personality, Gu Jiahui was polite and well-mannered. His familiar yellow uniform suggested that he was working part-time as a food delivery driver in his spare time, rather than staying at home and loafing around with his parents.
Ren Jin simply nodded without saying a word. Seeing them standing at the doorway staring at each other, Gu Yueji quickly broke the awkward silence and asked Gu Jiahui, "Have you had dinner yet?"
Gu Jiahui looked at Gu Yueji, "Not yet, I was thinking of going to eat after I finish delivering dinners during the peak hours."
Do you still have any food deliveries to make?
"Not at the moment."
"Then come in and wait a while. Your brother-in-law and I will take you out for dinner." With that, Gu Yueji reached out to pull Gu Jiahui into the room.
However, Ren Jin took a step forward and blocked Gu Yueji's path.
He patted Gu Jiahui on the shoulder and gently pushed him out, saying, "Wait for us in the hotel lobby. Your sister and I will change our clothes and then come down." He then closed the door.
Staring at the closed door, Gu Yueji looked displeased. "Why didn't you let him come in and wait?"
Ren Jin frowned at her. "Look at the clothes you're wearing. Is your younger brother still a child? And smell what this room smells like. Are you sure you want to let him in?"
Gu Yueji was taken aback, and only when she looked down did she realize that she was wearing Ren Jin's shirt.
She thought Ren Jin didn't like Gu Jiahui and was turning him away.
They hurriedly went back to their room to change clothes. They spent a long time cuddling in the room, and only now did they realize that the ambiguous atmosphere was strong and obvious, even without careful smelling.
Gu Yueji's face flushed. If Gu Jiahui smelled this, she would want to find a hole to crawl into.
They quickly changed their clothes. Gu Yueji, remembering Ren Jin's attitude towards Gu Jiahui earlier, knew that he disliked her family because of their preference for sons over daughters, which had caused her distress. Afraid that he would have a cold expression during dinner, she began to explain.
“When Jia Hui was little, he would secretly share half of the food my mom left for him with me. When he grew up, he even brought his girlfriend to my school to meet me. He never bullied me.”
Ren Jin was fastening his belt when he looked up at her and asked, "What, are you afraid I'll bully your brother?"
Gu Yueji reached out and took the belt from his hand, helping him fasten it. "I don't want you to have any prejudice against him."
Ren Jin naturally wrapped one arm around her waist and lifted her chin with the other. "To be honest, I have no feelings for your family. If it weren't for you, I would never know them, let alone have any relationship with them. How I treat them depends on how they treat you."
From the moment Gu Yueji cried and told him she wanted a home, he knew she was a person with strong family values. She longed for the warmth of a family, not only his but also her own family of origin. The reason she kept delaying going home and not contacting her family wasn't because she didn't want to, but because she cared deeply about them and had been hurt too deeply by them.
Gu Yueji tiptoed and kissed his lips, following his hand.
He understands her, protects her, and cherishes her. To him, she is more important than his family and also more important than her family, so how could she possibly divorce him and marry someone else?
——
Gu Jiahui was sitting on the sofa in the lobby. As soon as he saw Gu Yueji and Ren Jin come out of the elevator, he immediately stood up and went to greet them.
"Sister, brother-in-law."
Gu Yueji led Ren Jin over and said, "Let's eat at this hotel. Let's go to the second floor."
Gu Jiahui hesitated upon hearing this. This was the best hotel in town, and it wasn't cheap. He had heard his mother say that Gu Yueji and her family weren't well-off. "How about we go somewhere else? I'll treat my sister and brother-in-law."
Gu Yueji insisted, "Let's go here. Your brother-in-law has already made a reservation."
Ren Jin was still tired from not getting enough sleep and didn't want to go far, so he made a reservation for a restaurant here from his room.
The three of them went to a private room. When the waiter handed the menu, he naturally gave it to Ren Jin. Ren Jin took it but placed it in front of Gu Yueji, saying, "You order. Just order what you like."
Gu Yueji looked up at him. He acted quite polite and gentlemanly in front of outsiders, but he still looked grumpy from not having enough sleep.
She didn't call him out on it, but ordered a few dishes based on the three of them's preferences, and handed the menu to Gu Jiahui, saying, "Jiahui, is there anything else you'd like to eat?"
