After the lunch delivery peak, Ren Jin went back to Yueji to rest and charge his electric scooter.
Just as I got downstairs, Gu Yueji called, "Are you back?"
"Yes, it's downstairs."
"There's a package downstairs, could you bring it up for me?"
"Okay, got it."
Ren Jin locked his electric scooter, plugged it in, and walked to the stairwell. A deliveryman was sitting on an electric scooter with a plastic basket full of packages strapped to the back, impatiently making a phone call. "Are you down yet? I still have a lot of packages to deliver, sis."
"There's no one here! There's nobody here. If you don't come soon, I'm leaving."
Before the deliveryman could finish speaking, Ren Jin walked up to him and said, "The person is here."
The deliveryman froze when he saw Ren Jin, and after hanging up the phone, he pointed at Ren Jin in surprise, "It's you?"
Ren Jin stared at it for a few seconds before realizing, "Oh, it's you."
This deliveryman was the one he argued with when he first met Gu Yueji.
Looking at the cardboard box at his feet, it seems that Gu Yueji's argument last time had some effect; at least he didn't leave packages at the convenience store without permission again.
"Is this her package?" Ren Jin asked, pointing to the cardboard box, ignoring the deliveryman's gossipy gaze.
The deliveryman glanced back and forth between Ren Jin and the cardboard box, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Why are you helping her with her package? Are you two dating?"
Ren Jin lowered his head, lit a cigarette, and slowly took a drag, then looked up with annoyance.
Ren Jin was tall and burly, his cold, hard features tense as he glanced at the man, making him look like someone not to be trifled with. The deliveryman immediately put on a smile and said, "No, bro, I was just wondering if I could call you about her packages in the future, so we could talk more directly. Besides, her packages are usually quite large, and she can't carry them all by herself."
Ren Jin glanced down at the package on the ground, which was as tall as his thigh. Gu Yueji had indeed had a hard time carrying it. "From now on, you can call me when you receive her packages. I'll come pick them up when I have time. If I don't have time, you can leave them at the convenience store and I'll pay for them. You don't need to keep arguing with her."
Upon hearing this, the deliveryman immediately gave Ren Jin a thumbs up. "It's so refreshing to talk to a man like that. Brother, give me the phone number, I'll write it down right now." As he wrote it down, he muttered to himself, "Actually, it's not that I want to argue with her. You can see this huge box of packages in my car. I have to finish delivering them today. I really don't have that much time to wait."
Ren Jin, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, recalled Gu Yueji's image as she worked tirelessly from morning till night at home every day. "Everyone has their struggles. We're all working ourselves to the bone every day. Let's try to understand each other."
"Yes, long live mutual understanding."
Ren Jin wanted to finish his cigarette before going upstairs, because the only thing Gu Yueji wouldn't allow him to do at her house was smoke.
Seeing that he hadn't left, the deliveryman asked curiously in a low voice, "Just between you and me, is Ye Zurong really dead?"
Ren Jin looked up at the deliveryman when he heard the name.
Ren Jin recognized the name Ye Zurong. In Gu Yueji's house, these words would occasionally pop up in some corner, whether it was a bill, a delivery note, or during Gu Yueji's phone conversations. In short, this was not the first time he had heard this name.
Ren Jin took another drag of his cigarette before slowly asking, "Do you know her ex-boyfriend?"
She intentionally changed her boyfriend to her ex-boyfriend, otherwise she felt like a male homewrecker.
"I wouldn't say we know each other. I've seen him a few times when picking up packages. He's tall and thin, and quite handsome, but he's incredibly weak. He couldn't lift a box this big; he had to call the woman down to help him carry it. But they seem to have a good relationship. They call each other 'husband' and 'wife' all the time, which gives me goosebumps."
Ren Jin smoked a cigarette, his eyes half-closed, his gaze cold and deep.
From the very first day she learned his name, Gu Yueji called him by his full name.
Husband and wife?
Suddenly, he gave a mocking laugh, saying that even if the creditor came knocking on his door, he would only push the blame onto the other party.
Seeing Ren Jin's strange expression, the deliveryman realized he had said the wrong thing. "Anyway, the person is dead, so it's all over now, right?"
Ren Jin took another deep drag of his cigarette, threw the butt on the ground and stomped it out, hoisted the box onto his shoulder, and walked straight up the stairs.
When Ren Jin returned home carrying the package, Gu Yueji was still live-streaming, repeatedly calling out "baby" to the screen.
He stared at her, panting.
Husband, baby, this person can say these words to anyone.
He walked over to the area piled with packages next to her, threw the box on the ground, and went to the restroom.
The sudden snap startled Gu Yueji, but what shocked her even more was that his figure flashed across the live stream screen.
Gu Yueji silently prayed that no one noticed, but the next second, a problem popped up on the screen.
"Who was that handsome guy just now? Did the streamer get a new boyfriend?"
"Yeah, I remember the streamer's boyfriend didn't look like that."
"It's been a long time since I've seen the streamer's boyfriend. Did they break up?"
"Wasn't that the streamer's boyfriend? He's really handsome."
Ye Zurong had appeared in the live stream before, occasionally handing her something or helping her adjust her clothes. He didn't appear often, but he did show his face. When people saw him and asked about him, she would directly say that he was her boyfriend, without hiding it.
She is an e-commerce live streamer, and her live streams mainly involve selling goods. She doesn't need to create any persona, and people don't pay much attention to her private life. So Ye Zurong has been missing for more than half a year. If Ren Jin hadn't suddenly appeared, perhaps no one would have remembered her at all.
Gu Yueji doesn't like to talk about personal matters during live streams, but seeing more and more people asking about Ye Zurong, she had no choice but to pause her clothing introduction and give her first response.
