"No worries about food and clothing!"
May your wealth flow in!
May flowers bring you wealth and prosperity!
May you have a son soon!
Time passed by as bricks and tiles were added, tables and chairs were placed, and today was the day Gu Yueji and Ren Jin moved into their new home.
Qian Mingjun, his aunt's husband, and Ren Jin's brother, each carrying an item and offering auspicious words of congratulations, entered the house one by one.
Originally, Gu Yueji and Ren Jin hadn't planned to have a housewarming ceremony, but their aunt disagreed, saying that a housewarming ceremony should be lively and festive so that their future would be prosperous.
Looking at the bright red window stickers, listening to everyone's auspicious words, and feeling the lively atmosphere, Gu Yueji, who was not a person who valued rituals before, felt the beauty of rituals for the first time. They made life warmer, doubled the happiness, and made special days more memorable.
"Congratulations to Xiao Jin and Yue Ji! I wish you all the best, peace and joy, and a thriving career," Ren Yajuan said, taking Ren Jin and Gu Yue Ji's hands as she entered the house.
Gu Yueji shook hands with Ren Yajuan with emotion. In all her life, her aunt was the kindest elder to her. "Thank you, Aunt. I also wish you and Uncle good health. Thank you for coming so early in the morning."
"It's not hard work, what's so hard about it? We two have nothing to do at home anyway."
“Sister-in-law, your house is so beautifully decorated. You can tell you put a lot of thought into it.” Qian Mingjun walked to his mother’s side and looked around the house.
Everything in this house, from the color of the wall paint and the pattern of the floor tiles to the shape of the cushions on the sofa, was carefully researched and compared by Gu Yueji before she finally decided on it. It really took her a lot of thought.
"This is a house we'll live in for the rest of our lives, so of course we need to put our heart into it."
This was Gu Yueji's first home, and she considered it her only home. So even though the renovation process was complicated and involved a lot of work, she enjoyed it immensely.
Aside from occasionally offering her some professional advice on renovations, Ren Jin had no objections to whatever she wanted to do, so she and Ren Jin never argued about the renovations.
Looking for cups, washing fruit, chatting with guests, and going downstairs to greet people—Gu Yueji, the hostess, was busy taking care of everything.
She was extremely busy, but she was filled with joy and contentment. She was the mistress of the house, and she had bought and arranged everything in it. No one knew this house better than her.
"That's great. I see Xiao Jin has gained weight. He must be living a good life." Ren Yajuan was in the kitchen making tea with Gu Yueji.
Gu Yueji smiled, her eyes crinkling. Ren Jin seemed to have gained some weight recently; his frame was broader and thicker, and when he lay on his side next to her, he was like a wall, holding her so tightly that she couldn't move at all.
It seems I can't make him so much pork rib soup anymore.
"Auntie, please go sit outside. I can manage here."
"I can't stay still. They're making a ruckus outside, so I'll stay here and chat with you for a while."
Ren Jin, Qian Mingjun, and a few others were playing mahjong in the living room, making a lot of noise, but that's how lively the wedding night festivities should be.
Seeing how good their relationship was and that their new house was now renovated, Ren Yajuan casually remarked, "You two are just missing a baby now. It would be even more perfect if you had another one soon."
Gu Yueji was taken aback.
Ren Jin accompanied her to the hospital for a check-up a while ago. They both had tests done, and the results showed that there was nothing wrong with either of them. However, she still hasn't gotten pregnant, and given how often they conceive, it's unclear why.
However, knowing that the two were alright, Gu Yueji was relieved. They were still young, and both she and Ren Jin's careers were on the rise, so she wanted to wait a little longer.
On the other hand, she and Ren Jin only started dating after they got married. She wanted to spend some more time alone with him, enjoying the freedom and unrestrained atmosphere at home. Last night, Ren Jin whispered in her ear that he wanted to explore every corner of their new home together.
Just thinking about it made her blush. Gu Yueji quickly stopped the images in her mind. "No rush. Ren Jin and I are both busy with work right now. Without our parents' help, we won't have time to take care of the baby for the time being."
Both children are independent-minded, so Ren Yajuan didn't say anything more. But when it came to parental help, she thought of Ren Jin's father, Ren Yayong, and sighed silently. She asked Gu Yueji, "Has Xiao Jin told you about his family situation?"
Gu Yueji was taken aback. "I know my aunt."
"Don't blame me for being nosy, but Ren Jin's father came to my house a few days ago. He seems to know about you moving into the new house. He's been looking for Ren Jin, but Ren Jin doesn't want to see him. I'm afraid he'll come here looking for you."
That day, Ren Yayong and his wife came to her house. After only a few words, they started complaining, saying that they were living a miserable life. They were too old to find odd jobs and no one wanted them. They also complained about how unfilial Ren Jin was, saying that he was doing multi-million dollar projects and living in several large houses while his father suffered and had to squeeze into a small two-bedroom apartment.
Ren Yajuan knew how Ren Yayong treated Ren Jin back then. When Ren Jin was born, Ren Yayong was only in his early twenties. He and Huang Qiuyan got married and had a child in a moment of passion without thinking things through. Only after the child was born did he realize that he was a burden. The two of them started arguing from the first month after Ren Jin was born, and they argued for more than two years. Whenever they argued, they would leave Ren Jin with their father. After the divorce, Ren Yayong said that he wanted to go out of the city to make a living, and he directly asked their father to take care of Ren Jin. Then he acted as if he had forgotten that he had a son. He never sent Ren Jin any living expenses, let alone cared about or educated him.
In the past, when Ren Yayong criticized Ren Jin, Ren Yajuan would bring up things from Ren Jin's childhood to talk to him. Ren Yayong would also argue that he had a hard time making a living in the city and that he couldn't afford to take care of Ren Jin because he was struggling. But he was Ren Jin's biological father, so Ren Jin couldn't just ignore him.
Ren Yajuan knew they weren't the type to reason with her; they just wanted to smear Ren Jin and get more people to help him get the house. So she ignored them and refused to give them Ren Jin's contact information no matter how much they asked.
Ren Jin had anticipated this issue when they were renovating the house and had already discussed it with Gu Yueji. At the time, he was nonchalant and told her not to worry or concern herself, so she didn't take it to heart.
"It's alright. Ren Jin told me that if he wants to come, let him come. We can't hide from him forever."
Ren Yajuan sighed, "Ren Jin's father's family is not simple. Just don't be scared."
"Don't worry, Auntie, I'm not simple either."
Ren Yajuan was amused by Gu Yueji's playful raised eyebrow and patted her hand, saying, "Ren Jin is lucky to have married you."
"He was very good to me too."
"You two should take care of yourselves and not let his parents affect you."
"Won't."
