He smiled, finding it a little amusing, and said, "I want to eat your cooking."
Gu Yueji was taken aback, not expecting this. "It's too late today, I'll cook it tomorrow."
Ren Jin nodded. "Okay."
For the first time, Gu Yueji associated the word "obedient" with him.
Ren Jin watched TV for a while but couldn't stand it anymore. He propped his chin up and sat facing the door, feeling bored. He thought to himself, "Why does it take this person so long to go to the door to buy food? It's almost as long as she cooks it herself."
Just as I was wondering whether I should make a phone call, Gu Yueji appeared at the door, carrying a lot of things in both hands, and hurriedly walked into the ward.
Ren Jin was stunned for a moment.
She placed everything in her hands into its proper place: the fast food on the bedside table, the thermos by the bed, and the basin, cup, toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, and even underwear in the plastic bag—all were put into the storage cabinet.
She finally breathed a sigh of relief after putting everything away.
"What are you looking at? Eat." Gu Yueji saw him staring at her and sat on the bed without moving.
"You were gone for so long just to buy this?"
"Yes, you need all of these."
Ren Jin looked at the sweat on Gu Yueji's forehead and said, "Why are you in such a hurry to buy these? If I need them, I can just order takeout."
"No rush. You need these tonight. Aren't you going to wash up tonight?"
Ren Jin thought of the box of underwear, looked her in the eyes and asked bluntly, "So, are you going to help me take a bath later?"
Gu Yueji's face flushed, and he instinctively wanted to refuse, but the bandages on his hands and feet were so conspicuous that he could only grit his teeth and say, "You finish your meal first."
Ren Jin could tell at a glance that she had agreed. He raised an eyebrow, smiled, and turned to face the dining table.
She unpacked the fast food and soup boxes and arranged them one by one. In front of him was a box of meat, a box of vegetables, and a bowl of soup, while she had a single box of vegetables.
Ren Jin glanced at it, moved the box of meat between the two of them, and pushed the bowl of soup in front of her as well, saying, "You can drink half of this soup."
Gu Yueji moved a chair over and sat on the edge of the bed. "No, you know I don't eat much at night."
Although being a live streamer isn't as strict as being a celebrity or internet influencer, it still requires attention to body shape and appearance. Since she doesn't exercise much, she can only pay attention to her diet.
She pushed the soup back and said, "There are only these fast food options outside the hospital, nothing else. Let's eat this tonight."
He looked at the dish and found it to be rather bland and oily, but decided against it. He picked up a spoon and took a sip of the soup. "This soup has no flavor at all. It can't compare to what you make."
Gu Yueji saw his pout and disgusted look and said, "I'll buy the ingredients and cook it again tomorrow. Do you want chicken soup or pork rib soup?"
Ren Jin was delighted to hear this. He was usually not picky about what she cooked, saying, "I'm fine with anything."
Gu Yueji glanced at his hand, which had a slight fracture. "I'll make you pig's trotter soup tomorrow, to help you recover from what you've lost."
Ren Jin swallowed hard upon hearing this, "You have to boil the soup until it turns white."
Gu Yueji smiled gently at his greedy look and said, "Okay."
The two ate their meal quietly, with only the sound of the television in the room, but Gu Yueji no longer felt the emptiness she had felt in the evening.
Ren Jin's right hand was injured, so he couldn't use chopsticks at all and could only eat with a spoon.
Seeing that he had tried to scoop up a piece of meat several times without success, Gu Yueji reached over with her chopsticks, picked up the meat, and brought it to his mouth.
Ren Jin was taken aback, glanced at the piece of meat, and then looked at Gu Yueji.
Seeing that he wasn't eating, Gu Yueji asked curiously, "What? Do you want me to use serving chopsticks?" As she spoke, she actually started looking for chopsticks.
A smile flashed in Ren Jin's eyes. He lifted her hand, lowered his head, and took the meat from the chopsticks.
He grabbed her hand and slowly pulled the chopsticks out of his mouth, even licking the tips of the chopsticks one last time. "Why do we need serving chopsticks? I've eaten more than just your saliva."
Gu Yueji was so startled that her hand trembled. How could she forget what kind of person he was after only a short time apart?
Her face flushed red, she glared at him angrily, "Are you going to eat or not?!"
Her eyes were wide open, her cherry-like lips pursed involuntarily, and her cheeks were plump and pink like peaches.
Little did she know, it was her fierce and charming demeanor that made Ren Jin's heart itch with desire. He used to enjoy teasing her, just to see her like this.
"Eat up, or I'll put it away," Gu Yueji said coquettishly when she saw him staring at her and smiling.
Ren Jin smiled and then kept ordering Gu Yueji around, asking her to feed him meat, vegetables, and soup.
Gu Yueji knew he was doing it on purpose, but there was nothing she could do about it.
Seeing how difficult it was for him to eat, I remembered something and asked, "Did you contact your family while you were in the hospital?"
Ren Jin lifted his eyelids to look at her. "No."
"Why? Aren't your family here?"
This was the first time Gu Yueji had asked about his family. Ren Jin thought for a moment and told her the truth, "My parents divorced when I was 2 years old. I grew up with my grandparents. Both of them passed away a few years ago, and now I don't have any family members I can contact."
Gu Yueji was taken aback, not expecting him to have such a family background. Then she thought of how lonely he looked sitting alone in the ward today.
"Do you want me to stay with you in bed tonight?" Gu Yueji asked.
Ren Jin's face lit up with a sly smile again. "What do you mean by 'accompanying someone to bed'? Do you want to have some fun in the hospital?"
Gu Yueji was speechless and wanted to poke at his wound, "Can you be serious for once? I'm asking if you need someone to take care of you tonight?"
"You won't take care of me, and it's painful to see you lying here."
Gu Yueji gave up on communicating with him completely. Seeing that he had finished eating, she got up to clean up.
When she returned after throwing out the trash, Ren Jin was already waiting for her expectantly. "Can you go take a shower now?"
