Gu Yueji and Ren Jin were kissing passionately when the office door was suddenly pushed open.
"elder brother……"
Gu Yueji trembled in fright, and Ren Jin's first reaction was to turn around and shield her with his back.
Qian Mingjun pushed the door open halfway, saw the scene inside, and slammed it shut with a "Damn it!"

Ren Jin gently cupped her face in his hands and stroked it with his thumb. His gaze fell on her lips, which he had kissed until they were moist and rosy. He lowered his head and kissed them again, still feeling a little unsatisfied.
Startled, Gu Yueji quickly pulled his hand away, saying, "Stop kissing me, or someone else will come in."
Ren Jin bent his finger and pinched her nose, "You have the desire but not the courage."
She was quite taken aback by her unusually proactive attitude; who knows when we'll see her take the initiative again.
Gu Yueji didn't argue, but helped him straighten his messy clothes, only telling him, "Go home early tonight."
Ren Jin also tidied her hair and nodded, "Don't worry, I'll definitely go back early and finish what I didn't do earlier."
Gu Yueji paused for a moment before realizing what he meant, and gently patted his chest, "Don't be so indecent all the time."
They're both going to be fathers.
He reminded her again, "Remember to come back early, I have something to tell you."
Ren Jin, recalling her unusual behavior today, looked at her face with a more serious expression. "Did something happen?"
It was noisy here, and Qian Mingjun was waiting outside. Gu Yueji didn't want to talk about it here. She wanted to tell him the good news properly when they were home alone. "It's nothing serious. I'll tell you tonight."
Ren Jin's gaze remained fixed on her face, and he was about to say something when there was a soft knock on the door. "Brother, someone from the Housing and Construction Bureau is here. You might need to come out quickly."
Ren Jin paused, explaining that the Housing and Construction Bureau regularly conducts safety inspections, always looking for faults. "I understand."
He gave Gu Yueji some instructions as he opened the door, saying, "I have to go now. Drive carefully on your way home."
"Go ahead and get busy, don't worry about me."
Gu Yueji followed him out of the office and saw Qian Mingjun standing outside the door smoking, his face full of displeasure.
Ren Jin saw it too and asked, "What's wrong?"
As soon as Qian Mingjun saw them come out, he put down his cigarette, stubbed it out, and walked over. "The people from the Housing and Construction Bureau just went to inspect the construction site. Uncle Xu wasn't wearing his safety harness properly, and they almost saw him."
Ren Jin's face immediately darkened upon hearing this.
Qian Mingjun was also very angry. "Uncle Xu has done this more than once. Luckily, I found out in time this time. If the people from the Housing and Construction Bureau had seen it, I don't know how much they would have fined us."
Ren Jin, supporting his back, was already furious, but Gu Yueji was still there, so he suppressed his temper, saw her off from the construction site, and then hurried to the construction site.
"After the examination is over, have Uncle Xu come find me," he instructed Qian Mingjun.
The fine imposed on Uncle Xu by the Housing and Construction Bureau for his safety issues is a minor matter; the real concern is that Uncle Xu might actually cause trouble for them someday.
Having worked on construction sites for so many years, what he fears most is a safety accident on the site. Even just one accident could mean the end of the project, or even jail time for him. So he has always been very strict about safety.
This Uncle Xu is a distant relative of Ren Jin's father in the village. He didn't work at Ren Jin's construction site before. After the pandemic ended, because the boss of the construction site where he used to work ran away, he asked his aunt to ask Ren Jin if he could work at his construction site, but Ren Jin refused.
Ren Jin refused for two reasons. First, Uncle Xu was over 60 years old and not suitable to work on a construction site. Second, his wife and son had cursed Ren Jin when they were young, saying that he was born of a mother but not raised by one. Since then, Ren Jin has not had any contact with Uncle Xu's family.
However, just a few days after being refused, Uncle Xu came to the construction site to find Ren Jin. He burst into tears after only a few words, saying that he really couldn't find a job and only had 100 yuan left. With tears streaming down his face, he said that his son was now studying for a master's degree and was waiting for him to send him tuition and living expenses. He was 40 years old when he had this son, and all his hopes were on his son. He was determined to earn money to support his studies. He even wanted to kneel down and apologize for the times his wife and son had scolded Ren Jin, but Ren Jin stopped him.
Many of the people at the construction site were fellow villagers, and they came over to plead for Uncle Xu. Ren Jin was both frustrated and helpless. He didn't want Uncle Xu from the bottom of his heart, but he couldn't be too heartless in front of so many fellow villagers. Besides, Uncle Xu was a relative and elder, and he had helped his grandparents with a lot of farm work before he got married and had children. So in the end, he agreed to let Uncle Xu work at the construction site.
After working for only a few months, he discovered that Uncle Xu had developed various bad habits at his previous construction site. He didn't like to wear a safety rope while working, would sneak off to the construction site at night to cool off, and drank alcohol day and night. Once, he was even caught working on the construction site after drinking alcohol.
Everyone stepped on Ren Jin's landmines, so after dealing with the people from the Housing and Construction Bureau, Ren Jin immediately asked Qian Mingjun to bring Uncle Xu over.
Uncle Xu knew why Ren Jin wanted to see him. As soon as he entered the door, he apologized before Ren Jin could even speak, saying, "Xiao Jin, I know I was wrong. I will definitely correct my mistakes in the future and won't cause you any trouble."
Ren Jin sneered, "If something really happens, it won't be as simple as just causing trouble."
Uncle Xu nodded quickly, "Yes, yes, I've worked on construction sites for so many years, I know safety is very important."
