Ren Jin had a premonition that these words were related to him, so he didn't respond, but just looked at her head resting against his chest.
Gu Yueji looked up at him. "You may not have noticed, but I can never be with someone who has lied to me. It's not that I'm angry or hate you, but I will never trust you again. I won't go on with someone I don't trust. I did think about just being happy and maintaining that kind of sexual relationship with you, but then I thought about it seriously. I'm really not young anymore, and I want to find someone to marry and have children. Actually, I don't really understand why you still came to me. Do you care about me? No, you look down on me. If you think it's a pity to lose a sexual partner, with your actual conditions, you should be able to find another one quickly. Look, you could find me even as a food delivery worker, right?"
Gu Yueji's self-deprecating smile was like a slap in Ren Jin's face. He tightened his grip on her, "I didn't intend to lie to you forever. You said last time that you would pay off the money after the New Year, so I was thinking of waiting until then to tell you, and then we could try to be together again..."
Gu Yueji murmured to herself and smiled at him, "Try to be together... but I don't want to try anymore, okay? Actually, you didn't tell me you had money at first because you were afraid I would be after your money, right? After all, I was being chased by people asking for money back then. It wouldn't be good if I clung to you and asked you to pay me back. That's why you wanted to wait until I paid off the money before telling me, right?"
Ren Jin calmed down, looked at her, neither denying nor defending himself.
Gu Yueji didn't know what he was thinking, nor did she want to delve into it. She continued, "I'm not blaming or complaining. Really, no. Your money didn't grow on trees. You have no obligation to help me. So I'm telling the truth. I might feel a little sad, but I really don't resent you. I just think it's good that we parted amicably."
Ren Jin stared at her intently, the words of explanation on the tip of his tongue twitching, but he didn't speak.
He rushed over partly on impulse, thinking she had misunderstood, but now that he heard what she said, he felt there was no misunderstanding.
Yes, he was happy and enjoyed being with her, and he even thought about their future. But he didn't completely trust her. He didn't tell her about his wealth, and he didn't want to commit to a relationship with her while she was paying off other men.
What the hell gives them the right?!
Why should his woman be paying off another man's debts?!
He felt a lump in his throat, unable to vent or calm down, and he was so frustrated that he didn't want to say another word.
He moved his fingers and released her. "Since we've come this far, let's part ways amicably."
As he spoke, he picked up his wallet, took out all the cash, and without counting it, handed it directly to Gu Yueji. "I've been eating and living here for so long without paying for my meals. This is my way of making up for it."
Gu Yueji's gaze lingered on the money in his hand for a long time before she suddenly smiled.
She looked up at him, her gaze even colder than before, "Why don't you make up for the money you paid for prostituting yourself to me?"
Ren Jin was taken aback. Giving her money was simply because he didn't want to take advantage of her; it was a small compensation for her.
Gu Yueji looked at the money in his hand, then suddenly snatched it away, shaking it around. "This is probably worth tens of thousands of yuan. Well, thank you. This money is enough for me to use for prostitution."
Ren Jin's expression changed, he opened his mouth, but in the end he didn't say anything.
Gu Yueji's face changed like a Sichuan opera performer's expression, her smile vanishing instantly. "Can you leave now?"
In G City's winter, the damp, cold air seems to seep through your pores and into your bones.
Ren Jin rolled down the car window, finished a whole pack of cigarettes downstairs at Gu Yueji's building, and called his brothers, "Have you guys finished eating? Let's go out for drinks."
"Get lost! You have the nerve to mention food? You just dumped a sentence and walked away. Can't you even eat?"
"Let's not talk about that. Want to go out for a drink?"
"Go ahead, I'm going to drink back the wine I had at dinner tonight."
"Okay, I'll have some good wine and wait for you at SOHO. You can invite whoever you want."
When his brother arrived, Ren Jin had already opened a bottle of wine and was drinking it, with two women sitting next to him.
"Hey, who are these two pretty girls? Introduce them to me."
However, Ren Jin just smiled and didn't answer, only nodding his chin to let them sit down.
Instead, the two women poured a glass of wine for everyone and handed it to the person who asked the question, saying, "If you drink this glass of wine, I will tell you who I am."
Everyone immediately egged them on to drink a toast together. In fact, anyone who has been to a bar knows that these women are either there to freeload or are bar girls. Nobody really knows who they are. If they look good and have fun, something might happen at night.
With the two women enthusiastically encouraging them, the drinks on the table were quickly finished. Ren Jin tossed them his gift card and told them to order whatever they wanted. As soon as the two women saw that the table had a generous boss, they immediately brought over more women, one for every man.
When men and women drink, they naturally play all sorts of games suitable for bars. The simplest one is that everyone sticks out a finger and puts it in someone else's palm. The person who gets caught can randomly pair up with someone to kiss. If a man and a woman can't find a pair, then women kiss women, and men kiss men.
After playing the game round after round, the men and women forgot who they had kissed, but they all had a lot of fun.
Ren Jin wasn't caught even once. Towards the end, a woman pounced on him, saying, "Boss, no one has ever kissed you. You're so pitiful. Let me kiss you." As she spoke, she actually put her arms around his shoulders and leaned in to kiss him.
Ren Jin squinted his drunken eyes as he looked at the face that had come so close, its makeup even heavier than that of a Peking Opera actor.
