Chapter 21: There's no point in going back on your word.

Ren Jin sent a voice message to Liu Jun while driving to the Green Garden residential area.

Fortunately, the other person hadn't deleted him. "Brother, I need to ask you for a favor."

"What? Do you need to ship something?"

"I'll definitely use you for future deliveries. But right now, I wanted to ask what the delivery address is for my girlfriend: which building and apartment number in the Green Garden residential complex?"

"What? Are you going to seek revenge?" Liu Jun joked on the other end. Ren Jin's tone that day made it clear that the two of them had broken up, and now he was asking someone else what room number they were staying in. "We can't disclose customer information."

Ren Jin quickly explained, "I just had a fight with my girlfriend. You know us, right? I just want to go and coax her back. Please, from now on, my girlfriend will definitely ask you to send her things."

Liu Jun was the same age as her and knew about the arguments between boyfriends and girlfriends. Moreover, he noticed that Ren Jin usually treated Gu Yueji very well. When the two of them were together, he never saw Gu Yueji move a heavy box again.

"Okay, I'll look for it and send it to you in a bit."

Once Ren entered the Green Garden residential complex, Gu Yueji's detailed address had already been sent to him. He drove directly to her building, counted the floors, and saw that Gu Yueji's lights were on.

Gu Yueji had just returned home, changed her clothes, and sat down to calm herself down. She recalled the Ren Jin she had seen today. His hair had grown long, and his thick hair was styled into a pompadour. He was wearing a black branded tracksuit with a white vest and down jacket over it, a watch on his wrist, and a pair of new sneakers that she had once mistaken for knock-offs. He looked like a handsome young man, yet exuded an air of refinement.

Looking back now, he must have thought she was stupid and ridiculous when she traded a pair of cheap clothes for his shoes.

A sudden, loud knocking startled Gu Yueji.

I got up and looked through the peephole.

She was stunned.

"Gu Yueji, open the door, I have something to say to you." Ren Jin knew Gu Yueji was home; he could hear her footsteps approaching the door, but no matter how many times he rang the doorbell, she wouldn't open it.

He banged on the door again and said to the person behind it, "You know I'm not a well-mannered person. If you don't open the door today, I'll keep banging until everyone in the building comes over."

Gu Yueji didn't want to pay attention to him, but seeing his determination to keep opening the door, she didn't want to attract the neighbors to come out and see the commotion, so she had no choice but to open the door for him.

As soon as the door opened, Ren Jin pushed it open and tried to go inside.

Gu Yueji calmly blocked his way, saying, "Say what you have to say here."

Ren Jin paused, panting as he stared at her for a few seconds. He licked his lips and began to explain, "I apologize. Tonight, when I saw you on a blind date with another man, I was so angry that I said those things. I didn't mean them. I'm sorry. Also, I just found out that you overheard some of what I said at dinner that night..."

Gu Yueji roughly understood why Ren Jin had suddenly come to find her, but she didn't want to listen anymore, so she interrupted him and said, "No need to explain, it's okay now."

Her nonchalant tone immediately made Ren Jin jump up. "What do you mean it's okay? I want to explain. That's not what I meant when you heard those words."

He didn't actually remember what he said, but judging from the tone of the two waiters, it definitely wasn't anything nice. "Tell me which of my words made you upset. Tell me, and I'll explain everything to you."

Gu Yueji shook her head. "I'm not feeling unwell."

"If you're not upset, why are you moving? If you're not upset, why are you kicking me out? If you're not upset, why are you saying we should be strangers?! Screw you, do you think I believe that?" Ren Jin still couldn't accept Gu Yueji's sudden coldness.

Compared to Ren Jin's agitation, Gu Yueji was remarkably calm. "The day we broke up, I spoke from the heart. We both looked down on each other, and we weren't going to get married anyway. Wouldn't it be better to just become strangers again?"

"You look down on me but feel sorry for me, take care of me, and give me money? Okay, I admit I lied to you at first. I work in engineering, and I was just delivering food on a spare time. I didn't tell you because I thought things were fine as they were before, and we were both happy, so I thought it wouldn't matter if we talked about it later."

Gu Yueji nodded without any change in expression. "Oh, are you finished explaining?"

Ren Jin's heart sank. "Is this your attitude?"

He thought he had found the problem between them, and he rushed over to explain, thinking that if Gu Yueji wanted to hit or scold him, they would be fine after she vented her anger. However, her attitude was too cold now.

"Actually, whether you explain or not, our relationship will not change. I said it's okay."

Ren Jin gritted his teeth, "You say it's okay, and it's okay?"

"Do you want to maintain a relationship where I provide for your food, clothing, and even your education?"

Ren Jin frowned, felt his pockets, pulled out his wallet, and shoved it into her hand. "The PINs for all the cards are the same. You can spend it however you want."

Gu Yueji casually pushed his wallet back, "I don't need your money, I can earn it myself."

"Then what do you need?"

"I don't need anything from you."

Ren Jin didn't know what to do with her, so he reached out to grab Gu Yueji. Gu Yueji tried to dodge but couldn't, so he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

When he held the person in his arms and his lips touched that warm, soft skin, Ren Jin felt a sense of peace.

Gu Yue struggled, but he held her tighter, kissing her passionately. Later, feeling her soften, his kisses became gentler, filled with pleading and tenderness. He kissed her gently, trying to soften her, to make her obedient, and to reconcile them.

"Can I apologize to you? Hmm?" he asked softly, holding her close.

Gu Yueji lowered her head and calmed her breathing for a moment before asking in a low voice, "You know that Ye Zurong tricked me into going home to marry someone else, leaving me here to pay off my debts, right?"
