Since agreeing to let his brother introduce him to women, Ren Jin has gone on blind dates with quite a few women.
Some are youthful and beautiful, some are intellectual and elegant, and some are playful and cute; each has her own unique beauty.
However, she demands 388,000 for youth, prioritizes an intellectual career, will not have children until after 35, cannot let her playful hands get wet, and will call you "Dad" and ask you to take care of her.
Having finally met someone he wanted to marry and settle down with, Ren Jin patiently began to try dating.
"Ren Jin, are you free tonight? Let's go see a movie together."
"Of course I'll have time to spend with you."
"Is this how you always try to appease your ex-girlfriend?"
"I don't have an ex-girlfriend, I've only ever comforted you."
A sweet laugh came from the other end of the phone.
Zhao Weiwei was the fifth person Ren Jin had met during this period. She worked at a bank, was tall and shapely, and while her looks were somewhat less striking than her figure, they were still above average. After having several meals together, she seemed gentle and sensible.
"Let's go eat first, and then go see a movie," Zhao Weiwei suggested.
Ren Jin cooperated, saying, "What would you like to eat? I'll make a reservation."
"How about we eat at that super popular grilled fish place we saw last time? I heard it's a famous online restaurant, and a lot of my friends have posted about it on their WeChat Moments."
"Isn't that place supposed to have a long queue?" Ren Jin frowned as soon as he heard about the trendy restaurant. "How about we go somewhere else? I know a newly opened Hunan restaurant."
Zhao Weiwei fell silent, and Ren Jin also fell silent. After a few seconds of stalemate, Zhao Weiwei finally gave in, "Okay, come pick me up at 5 o'clock."
Ren Jin took a drag of his cigarette. "Okay, I'll be downstairs at your place at 5 o'clock."
He could tell that Zhao Weiwei's tone had changed on the phone, but he had no intention of comforting her; he was neither in the mood nor wanted to pretend.
When he went to pick her up, Zhao Weiwei reverted to her gentle and considerate demeanor, even picking out fish bones for him during the meal. Ren Jin smiled, satisfied, so after dinner, he let her go shopping for skincare products and clothes as she pleased.
Ren Jin wandered around until the movie started before entering the theater. Zhao Weiwei had chosen the movie, and Ren Jin only realized it was a romantic comedy halfway through. Everyone around him was laughing and joking, but he just felt sleepy. He didn't know where the plot was at, but suddenly the male and female leads on the big screen started kissing, occasionally just lightly touching each other, and then they even stuck out their tongues.
In the dimly lit movie theater, the atmosphere became ambiguous.
Ren Jin felt his hand being touched and turned around to see Zhao Weiwei looking at him shyly.
Ren Jin thought that if he didn't do something at this point, this relationship should probably come to an end.
He lowered his head, and Zhao Weiwei did not dodge. When their lips touched, Ren Jin's first impression was the greasy, artificial scent of lipstick.
Without taking any further action, he took Zhao Weiwei's hand and leaned back in his chair, secretly wiping his lips with his fingers to remove the greasy feeling.
It was already 10 o'clock when the movie ended, and it was almost 11 o'clock by the time Ren Jin dropped Zhao Weiwei off at her building.
Ren Jin took out a few gift bags from the back seat and handed them to her, saying, "It's getting late, you should go upstairs and rest."
Zhao Weiwei looked at the brand logos on the bags; there were bags, skincare products, and clothes—all things he had bought for her that evening.
The dissatisfaction from the evening had long since vanished, and Zhao Weiwei took the initiative to suggest, "Would you like to come up for a bit? You always wait downstairs when you come; you've never even seen my house."
The woman had her head down, so Ren Jin couldn't see her expression, but for an adult, the implication was clear enough.
He lowered his head and whispered flippantly in her ear, "Aren't you going upstairs to 'make a scene' without buying anything?" He deliberately emphasized the word "make a scene".
Zhao Weiwei immediately understood, and pinched his hand shyly, saying, "What are you thinking? I just wanted to invite you for a cup of tea."
Ren Jin also pretended, "What am I thinking? Don't you always bring something when you go to someone's house? Otherwise, how dare you go up there and act recklessly?"
Zhao Weiwei understood, and still smiled shyly as she patted him, but she didn't know how to respond to his words.
If she says she doesn't need to buy anything, it means she already has that item at home. But if she goes along with it and says she'll buy it, it would seem like she's being too forward.
Ren Jin didn't press her further, saying, "I usually don't drink tea at night, only alcohol. I'll visit your house another day."
Zhao Weiwei wrapped her arms around his waist, looked up at him, and said, "Okay, drive carefully and send me a WeChat message when you get back." After saying that, she stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the corner of his lips.
Ren Jin placed the gift bag in her hand. "Okay, go upstairs."
Back in the car, Ren Jin lit a cigarette and started smoking.
He had been celibate for several months since his last time with Gu Yueji. He didn't know why he rejected Zhao Weiwei; he just felt a lack of motivation.
The image of Gu Yueji leaning against the door, asking him if he wanted to come in and eat cake together, flashed through his mind. She was much more open, looking directly into his eyes as she asked, which was even more alluring.
The feeling of irritability subsided slightly after I finished smoking.
Ren Jin threw away his cigarette butt and sped off.

After the hike that day, Gu Yueji clearly felt that Sun Ziru was more proactive than before.
Today, when he handed over the keys to his new house, he invited her along. During the tour, he even asked her what she thought about the renovation.
"Do you prefer to enclose the balcony or install sliding windows?" Sun Ziru asked her from the balcony.
Gu Yueji had envisioned what her home would look like a long time ago. "I personally prefer sliding windows because I like the feeling of the wind blowing in."
"Okay, then we'll install sliding windows."
Gu Yueji was taken aback. "It's still best to go by your preferences."
“You’re the lady of the house, so you’ll probably be spending more time here than I will. Of course, I’ll listen to you. By the way, I was thinking of setting aside a room specifically for your live streams. Do you think this room is big enough?” As he spoke, he led the group to show them the room.
