Chapter 8: It's time to pay the repair fees.

Having lived for 30 years, this is the first time I've felt like I don't have enough. I don't know if this is how all men feel as they get older, or if he's been abstaining from sex for too long.

After watching for a while, I finally got up to wash up.

When Ren came in and out, the noodles were already on the table, and Gu Yueji was eating them.

The noodles were very plain, with only a few leafy greens mixed in. There wasn't even an egg. I looked up at Gu Yueji's bowl, and hers was empty too. I didn't know what to say, just wondering if she was having such a hard time. So I lowered my head and started eating.

He was used to eating in big mouthfuls. He would pick up a mouthful of noodles with his chopsticks, leaving half of the noodles in the bowl, and then stuff it into his mouth to chew. He found the light and simple noodles quite enjoyable.

I picked up another noodle, paused with my chopsticks, and realized there was an egg, lying at the bottom of the bowl.

Looking at the fried egg hidden under the noodles, a familiar feeling washed over me.

Ren Jin smiled and said, "You're just like my grandma, always hiding eggs under the noodles."

Gu Yueji was stunned for a moment, looking at the almost finished noodles in his bowl and the egg that was showing. She was used to putting the fried egg at the bottom and forgot to tell him.

Gu Yueji picked out the egg from the bottom of her bowl and recalled her childhood. "When I was little, my family was poor and we couldn't afford meat. Eating an egg felt especially delicious. Every time I ate noodles, I liked to put the egg at the bottom, thinking that I could finish the whole bowl of noodles with the egg at the bottom and then enjoy the egg at the end. Over time, I got used to it."

Ren Jin was quite surprised to hear this. When he was a child, he lived with his grandparents in the countryside. His family was not well-off. He worked in the fields to grow vegetables, cut grass to feed pigs, and could not afford a new piece of clothing for a year. However, he never lacked meat and eggs. In his memory, none of his peers had ever gone without meat. It was only because his grandmother had experienced famine that she developed the habit of hiding eggs to eat last.

He could tell that Gu Yueji was not from a wealthy family; she was in debt and used cheap things in her clothes and rented room. But he never imagined that she hadn't been able to afford meat when she was a child.

“My grandma once told me that everyone’s life is like the eggs in this bowl. Some people eat the eggs first and then the noodles, while others eat the noodles first and then the eggs.” He put his fried egg into her bowl. “But everyone will have eggs.”

Gu Yueji was stunned. He was rough and threw the egg with noodles hanging from it, and the noodle soup dripped onto the table.

But looking at the two eggs stacked together in the bowl, Gu Yueji felt a warmth in her heart.

I never expected that such a rough person could actually comfort others.

"Thank you," she said sincerely.

Ren Jin scoffed, "What are you thanking me for? I worked so hard last night and you didn't thank me at all."

All the emotion instantly turned into silence. Gu Yueji lowered her head and ate her noodles, not wanting to talk to him anymore.
