Chapter 17 How Did You Lie to People?

When the two arrived at the mall, it was already lunchtime. Gu Yueji found a popular restaurant and wanted to give it a try.

However, before even reaching the restaurant, they could see from afar that the waiting chairs at the entrance were full of people.

Ren Jin frowned upon seeing this and wanted to turn around and leave. He was not going to waste so much time queuing for a bite to eat. But when he looked down at Gu Yueji, he remembered how excited and expectant she had been when she talked about this restaurant.

With a sigh, she said, "Go sit over there, I'll go get a number."

Gu Yueji grabbed him, "You want to wait with so many people around?"

Ren Jin shook his head decisively.

"Let's go then." With that, she pulled him across the store.

Ren Jin watched as she looked for the next restaurant without any hesitation. "Didn't you say you really wanted to eat there?"

She shook her head indifferently, "It's just one meal, there's plenty of food available. I don't have time to wait in such a long line." She pointed to a restaurant with a relatively shorter line and asked him, "Shall we eat at that restaurant?"

Ren Jin naturally had no objections and was satisfied that Gu Yueji shared his thoughts.

The movie was after lunch. Since Ren Jin had paid for lunch, Gu Yueji said she would buy the movie tickets. Just then, Ren Jin received a phone call, so she told him to go and queue up first.

A fleet owner called and invited him to dinner that evening.

These kinds of dinners are usually for introducing each other to facilitate future cooperation, and Ren Jin has never refused them in the past.

But when he looked up at Gu Yueji, she saw Ren Jin...

The team owner was stunned and asked him what was so important, since he usually went even when he had a cold or wasn't feeling well.

Ren Jin didn't say anything, only promising to organize another gathering next time.

Just as he hung up the phone, a floral skirt, carrying a strong perfume scent, wafted towards Ren Jin.

"Hey handsome, can I add you on WeChat?"

He looked up and was taken aback. "Huang Li? What a coincidence!"

Huang Li wore a floral print, fitted, knee-length dress, with big wavy hair and exquisite makeup, exuding femininity.

“I was shopping with my girlfriends when she suddenly pulled me aside and told me there was a handsome guy here and asked me to add him on WeChat. When I looked at him, he was indeed very handsome, so I mustered up the courage to ask for his WeChat.”

Huang Li is always very charming and eloquent, able to make people happy. Ren Jin was also flattered and smiled. "I think I added you on WeChat first, right? Usually, I'm the one who asks beautiful women for their WeChat first."

When Ren Jin booked the private room at the hotel, he first asked for Huang Li's contact number and then added her on WeChat via the phone.

Huang Li enjoys chatting with Ren Jin because he can respond to anything she says in a witty and humorous way that makes people feel comfortable.

"Brother Jin, are you here to watch a movie alone?" She had seen him without anyone else around, and was just about to offer to watch it with him.

Ren Jin shook his head. "I'm waiting for someone."

Huang Li was surprised. Most of the people waiting for a man at the movie theater entrance were women. "Is Brother Jin in a relationship?"

Ren Jin paused for a moment after being asked the question, and subconsciously looked at Gu Yueji, whose figure was partially obscured by someone.

Huang Li followed his gaze inside, but couldn't see who he was looking at, so she tentatively asked, "Which one is Brother Jin's girlfriend?"

After a moment of silence, he replied, "Just an ordinary friend."

Gu Yueji was queuing to buy tickets when she turned around and saw Ren Jin chatting with a woman. She was taken aback.

They were chatting happily. The woman stood very close to Ren Jin, about half an arm's length away, looking up at him with a sweet smile.

The way the woman looked at Ren Jin made Gu Yueji want to ask him who this woman was. But then she lowered her eyes and thought about it. Ever since they got back together after he was injured, although she could sense the subtle changes between them, Ren Jin had never explicitly stated what their relationship was.

After chatting for a few minutes, Ren Jin looked at Gu Yueji again and realized that a tall, thin young man was standing in front of her at some point.

Gu Yueji wore an off-shoulder chiffon blouse with a tie today, showing off her slender and straight shoulders and well-defined collarbones. She paired it with wide-leg jeans, her hair was tied in a loose ponytail, and she wore white sneakers. Her face was covered in pink makeup, making her look like a vibrant college student.

"Excuse me……"

Just as Gu Yueji was about to refuse the boy, a hand wrapped around her waist from behind.

Ren Jin, with his arm around Gu Yueji, looked down at the boy. His tall and burly figure looked down at the boy, his eyes clearly warning him. The boy smiled apologetically and quickly left.

Gu Yueji stared at him intently, her gaze sliding behind him. The beautiful woman who had been standing next to him was gone.

When it was their turn to buy tickets, Ren Jin put his arm around her and led her to the machine, casually asking, "Which movie do you want to see?"

Gu Yueji's heart sank. She thought he would say something, and then she could take the opportunity to ask him what their relationship was.

But it didn't happen.

Gu Yueji was silent for a few seconds, then casually clicked on the movie she wanted to watch, but Ren Jin interrupted her, "I don't like watching foreign movies."

Gu Yueji asked, puzzled, "Why?"

Ren Jin frankly admitted, "I don't understand."

Gu Yueji already harbored resentment towards him, and his seemingly pointless excuse only fueled her anger. "Can't you understand the subtitles?"

"Aren't you tired of watching movies and reading subtitles at the same time?"

Gu Yueji thought to herself, "Why should I listen to him? I want to watch this one. Let's watch them separately." With that, she clicked on the seat selection, booked a movie ticket for herself, and then returned to the ticketing interface to give Ren Jin the ticket, "You can choose the one you want to watch."

Ren Jin watched her move so smoothly, stared at her for two seconds, and said, "Okay, I'll order it myself."

Gu Yueji took the ticket and, without waiting for Ren Jin, went to queue up to buy drinks and popcorn herself, angrily refusing to buy them for him.
