Chapter 20 Is that scumbag you're talking about me?

He was initially a little nervous, but now he was only angry. He dialed Gu Yueji's number directly, and after a while, the call was actually answered.

"Hello, who is this?"

The familiar voice, yet the polite but unfamiliar tone, made Ren Jin realize what was going on immediately. He gritted his teeth and asked coldly, "Gu Yueji, did you delete my number too?"

Gu Yueji paused, her hand still drying her hair.

She never had the habit of memorizing other people's phone numbers. She would save the number and name of the person she needed to contact in her contacts, and then look up the name to make a call. So she didn't remember Ren Jin's phone number.

From the day they broke up, she deleted all of Ren Jin's contact information, but didn't block him either, because she didn't think Ren Jin would take the initiative to contact her again. After all, he was so angry that day, and she saw him kick over the trash can. Besides, he was just playing with her out of boredom. Now he should be at work and doesn't have time to play those games with her.

Gu Yueji couldn't figure out why Ren Jin had suddenly called tonight, and she didn't want to know.

She took a small breath and asked politely, "Excuse me, who is this? What can I do for you?"

Ren Jin was stunned for a moment, and after a few seconds he remembered what she had said that day: if they met, they should treat each other as strangers.

A cold, hard curve immediately appeared at the corner of his lips.

Since he's already deleted their contact information and pretended to be a stranger, he'd never, and would never, try to force himself on them to continue the conversation.

He chuckled, "Wrong number."

Ren Jin thus returned to his previous life of working on construction sites, at home, and socializing.

One day, while he was driving, a voice message came from a WeChat account. He didn't read it carefully before clicking to listen.

"Brother, you and your girlfriend moved to Green Garden Residential Area? I was wondering why I hadn't seen you for so long. Turns out you moved. I'm the one delivering to Green Garden now. Your girlfriend brought over a big box of stuff again today. When are you coming back so I can deliver it to her? Or should I just leave it at the nearby convenience store?"

Ren Jin was taken aback. He glanced at his phone again and saw that the contact was for Liu Jun, a courier from a certain logistics company.

During the time he lived at Gu Yueji's house, he helped her pick up her packages, and later many deliverymen would call him directly.

Thinking it over, Ren Jin snorted coldly and clicked the voice reply button, "Let her move out to whoever she wants. You don't need to contact me anymore." After saying that, he swiped to delete the WeChat message, but then paused, exited the app, and locked his phone.

As the project gradually got back on track, Ren Jin finally breathed a sigh of relief.

That day, he invited Qian Mingjun and a few of his buddies to go out for a meal. "Let's go! I'll treat you guys to dinner!"

Qian Mingjun looked at Ren Jin's face. Recently, Ren Jin had been like a dark cloud before a summer storm. His obviously low mood made everyone afraid to talk to him.

He finally smiled today after the project progress was approved by the client.

"Okay, where do you want to eat, bro?"

"You guys decide, I'll go home and take a shower, then send me your location once you've decided."

Someone suggested, "Why don't we go to Cuiyuan? The food there was pretty good, you treated us to it last time."

Ren Jin paused in his tracks upon hearing the restaurant's name.

Cuiyuan is the restaurant where he treated everyone to dinner with Gu Yueji last time. "Okay, if you like it, go there. I'll go home, take a shower, change my clothes, and then go over."

Ren Jin hadn't told anyone about his relationship with Gu Yueji, so someone then asked, "Are you bringing Gu Yueji with you tonight?"

Ren Jin was taken aback again, then chuckled, "They changed people a long time ago."

"So fast?"

"What's the rush? It's just for fun."

"No way, that was the first time you introduced a woman to us, and it seemed like things were going well."

"I didn't specifically introduce you two. She just happened to be with me that day, so we just had a meal together. Anyway, I'm going to take a shower now."

The group exchanged glances. "Okay, let's go order first."

After getting into the car, Ren Jin felt a bit irritable, so he unscrewed the mineral water bottle and took a few sips.

There are some people you can't mention, because mentioning them will make them feel irritable.

He glanced at the date on his phone; almost two months had passed in the blink of an eye. The city wasn't too big or too small, and he suddenly had the thought that he and Gu Yueji might never see each other again in this lifetime.

After Ren Jin went home, washed up, changed his clothes, and drove to Cuiyuan.

As the car turned into the parking lot of Cuiyuan, the person he thought he would never see again appeared right in front of him.

Gu Yueji was wearing a beige wool coat and had long hair draped over her shoulders. She sat by the window in the lobby, opposite a man wearing a navy blue sweater and frameless glasses.

If he wasn't mistaken, she was probably on a blind date.

Gu Yueji looked at the man in front of her and had a pretty good impression of him; at least his photo and his real appearance were the same.

A month ago, she calculated that she would be able to pay off her debts soon, so she started looking for blind dates.

She really wants to find someone to settle down with, get married, have children, and have a home.

But she really didn't have any friends who could introduce her to anyone. After thinking it over, she finally registered an account on a well-known dating website and posted her information. Although she was skeptical, she could only comfort herself by telling herself that it was good to try more methods and meet more people.

Not long after she posted the information, people started adding her on WeChat. After initial chats and getting to know each other, she deleted some contacts until only one account remained. This person, whose WeChat name had only three letters, was the least proactive in chatting with her, but every time she contacted him, he would reply quickly. If he didn't reply immediately, he would explain why. Gu Yueji felt that this person was quite reliable.
