Through their conversation, she learned that he was a middle school teacher who lived in another district of the city, not too far from Gu Yueji's rented apartment, about an hour's drive away. Since school was on summer vacation, he was probably more free and would chat with her more often.
After chatting for almost half a month, he finally asked Gu Yueji to meet him. He was very considerate and booked a restaurant near her home for dinner, so today was their first meeting.
He was handsome and refined, with fair and delicate skin that outshone many girls.
"You really are wearing the same clothes you said you were wearing," Gu Yueji joked.
When we arranged to meet last night, he specifically mentioned what he was wearing so she could recognize him.
Sun Ziru poured her some water, looked up and smiled, "Isn't this what I should do?"
"What if I'm ugly and you want to back out?" Gu Yueji joked deliberately.
Didn't you send me your photos before?
"Sometimes photos and real people are not necessarily the same."
"You are just as beautiful as in the photos."
Gu Yueji smiled upon hearing this. No one had ever praised her so directly before. "You seem to be even better at talking than you are on WeChat."
"I'm just telling the truth."
"Then this meal is on me, as a way of thanking you for your honesty."
"When did I get thanked for telling the truth? I'm still paying for this first meal. If you really want to treat me to dinner, how about next time?"
"No problem." Gu Yueji said, raising her hand to call the waiter over to order.
However, when she looked up, the smile on her face froze.
Ren Jin strode towards her.
Under Gu Yueji's shocked gaze, Ren Jin walked to her desk.
"Long time no see. I had arranged to have dinner with some friends here, but they haven't arrived yet. I'll sit here for a while." As he spoke, he pulled out the chair next to her and sat down.
Gu Yueji looked at him incredulously, finding his presence here unbelievable, and his behavior even more so.
He calmly said to Sun Ziru, "I am Gu Yueji's friend. You two are on a blind date, right? I'll help her check it out."
Sun Ziru looked at Gu Yueji questioningly, but Gu Yueji just stared wide-eyed at Ren Jin.
Ignoring Gu Yueji's gaze, Ren Jin directly began the blind date process with Sun Ziru, "Did you know she runs an online store?"
Sun Ziru withdrew his gaze from Gu Yueji and looked at Ren Jin, "We've chatted on WeChat. Are you and Gu Yueji very familiar?"
Ren Jin smiled knowingly, "I should be a little more familiar with her than you are with her."
Gu Yueji's fingers tightened as she finally recovered from her shock. "Ren Jin, what are you doing?"
Ren Jin, did you call his name? You're not pretending to be a stranger anymore?
Ren Jin finally looked at her and smiled, "Didn't I tell you? I'll help you check it out."
Gu Yueji suppressed her anger and asked coldly, "Who are you? Do I need you to vet me?"
Ren Jin narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Yeah, who am I? Do you want me to tell him who I am?"
Gu Yueji's face flushed. "What's wrong with you?!"
He ignored her and turned to Sun Ziru, asking, "Do you have a car?"
Sun Ziru was easy to talk to, answering whatever was asked with a simple "Yes".
Do you have a room?
"I just took out a loan to buy an apartment, and it's not even renovated yet."
Ren Jin raised an eyebrow and nodded. "Do you have any savings?"
Gu Yueji couldn't stand him like this and tugged at his hand, "That's enough!"
He raised his hand and pushed her away. Her nervous look only fueled his anger, and he said something irrational: "She'd probably be interested in you if you had a car and a house, but you'd better have savings too. She's still carrying debts from her ex-boyfriend. If you get married, you'll have to pay off her debts, you know that, right?"
After saying that, she ignored Sun Ziru, tossed the car keys in front of Gu Yueji, and looked at her contemptuously, "I have a Land Rover, three houses, two shops, and my savings are more than enough to pay off your debts. How about you go on a blind date with me..."
Before he could finish speaking, a glass of cold water was poured over his head, along with Gu Yueji's equally icy voice, "Have you made enough of a scene? Have you calmed down?"
Through the stinging water droplets, Ren Jin stared straight at Gu Yueji.
Gu Yueji turned to Sun Ziru, "I'm sorry to have taken up your time. How about we call it a day?"
Sun Ziru maintained his polite smile and said gently, "It's alright, let me take you home first."
Gu Yueji nodded gratefully, walked around Ren Jin without even glancing at him, and left with Sun Ziru.
Ren Jin wiped the water off his face and couldn't help but laugh, but his gaze was sinister and cold.
He had deliberately parked his car in the parking space directly opposite where she was sitting, but her eyes seemed glued to the man across from her, and she didn't even glance at him.
Sitting in the car watching her chat and laugh with other men, the irritation in my heart gradually turned into anger.
If you don't see or hear anything, nothing will happen.
When they met again, seeing that she was really going to find a man to marry, he felt as angry and upset as if he had been kicked out of the house again. He had a vague idea in his heart that they would be like before, on and off, and eventually naturally come together again, but Gu Yueji obviously didn't think so.
Ren Jin took the towel given to him by the waiter, ignoring the strange looks from others, and walked towards the private room while wiping his head.
As soon as he opened the door, his friends saw the water stains on him and immediately teased him, "Wow, which girl did you flirt with and get splashed?"
Ren Jin pretended not to hear and sat down to dry his hair, his mind still filled with the scene he had just arrived at, recalling Gu Yueji's reaction after hearing his words.
Was she not surprised at all? Was she so angry with him that she didn't hear what he said? Or was she just pretending to be calm?
