Gu Yueji has understood the principle that fortune and misfortune are interdependent since she was a child. So even though her business income is now growing and she has a happy little family with Ren Jin, she was at a loss for a while when the owner of the garment factory suddenly contacted her and said that the factory was going to have to close down due to cash flow problems. Ren Jin, standing beside her, had deep-set eyebrows, a high nose, and thin lips. His strong features exuded a dashing demeanor. Dressed in a crisp black shirt and trousers, he walked toward Gu Yueji with an air of authority.
Although it was their first meeting, Xiao Yao inexplicably felt that the two of them had a similar aura, as if they were one person. In contrast, Gu Yueji had never felt this kind of rapport when she was with Ye Zurong before.
Everyone enjoyed the meal. Gu Yueji and Xiao Yao kept talking, and Ren Jin was able to join in their conversation. During the chat, he would always pay attention to Gu Yueji's needs, pouring her water, peeling shrimp for her, and handing her tissues, which made Xiao Yao envious.
After the meal, Ren Jin took Gu Yueji and Xiao Yao to the hotel.
"Brother Jin, can I borrow your wife for the night? Don't have trouble sleeping tonight, okay?" Xiao Yao joked with Ren Jin before getting out of the car.
Ren Jin smiled and held up one finger. "Just one night, no more."
Xiao Yao deliberately picked a fight, "Oh my, are you two really that lovey-dovey? Or are you just putting on an act for me?"
Over the course of the meal, Xiao Yao discovered that Ren Jin was not a dull person; he could catch all of her and Gu Yueji's jokes, which is why she enjoyed joking with him.
Ren Jin raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, "Then the performance has to be the whole thing." As he spoke, he reached out and pinched Gu Yueji's chin, then lowered his head and kissed her, sticking out his tongue.
Xiao Yao was truly exasperated. She covered her eyes and surrendered, saying, "Brother Jin, I was wrong. Please forgive me. I'll give your wife back to you tomorrow, okay?"
Ren Jin then released Gu Yueji with satisfaction. "Go home early tomorrow. Call me if anything happens."
Gu Yueji nodded shyly, "Okay, be careful on the road."
After seeing Ren Jin off, Xiao Yao and Gu Yueji bought a few bottles of beer at the supermarket next to the hotel.
Gu Yueji stood by the cashier and looked at her. "What's the big deal? Do we need to drink together to talk?"
Xiao Yao pouted, "You're overthinking it. You're just thirsty and want to drink."
Gu Yueji didn't expose her, "Sister Xiaoyao is just different, she quenches her thirst with beer."
"Didn't I drink it all the time when I was in college?"
Xiao Yao used to occasionally buy a couple of bottles of wine to drink back in her dorm, saying it was because she was thirsty. But Gu Yueji gradually realized that Xiao Yao usually only wanted to drink when she had something on her mind.
Back in their room, the two washed up, changed into bathrobes, sat by the window, opened their bottles, clinked them together, and started drinking and chatting.
"Tell me what's wrong? Why did you suddenly come to see me?"
Xiao Yao tilted her head back and took a big gulp of beer, paused for a moment before speaking, "I want to break up with Zhong Xuyang."
Gu Yueji was taken aback and looked at her with some surprise, "Weren't you two getting along quite well?"
Xiao Yao's WeChat Moments, which is visible for the past month, still features sweet photos of her and Zhong Xuyang.
Xiao Yao was silent for a few seconds. "Actually, I'm quite conflicted. You know I've liked Zhong Xuyang for so long, and now that we're finally together, it feels like my wish has come true. But for some reason, I still have a feeling of unease and insecurity."
