Chapter 4

After the discussion, Grandfather Yao and Uncle Yao wanted to go back.

It was just getting dark, there were a few stars and a moon in the sky, and visibility was not very good.

Yao's mother took out the lanterns at home and prepared to light them for Grandfather Yao to carry. The road was uneven, and she was afraid that the old man would accidentally fall.

Just then, there was a knock on the door of the Yao family. Yao Chunnuan was nearby and got up to open it.

Xingzi came in crying, covering her mouth.

Yao Chunnuan was stunned and asked casually, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Xingzi glared at her fiercely and said, "None of your business!" Then she rushed past her and back into the house.

Yao Chunnuan scoffed and turned back to the house. What's wrong with her? She's been spoiled! She has never been a good person. She would never put her warm face on someone else's cold butt.

Grandfather Yao frowned, said nothing, and asked him to go back with his eldest son.

The scene just now happened to be seen by Yao's mother, and her face immediately fell, but seeing that her father-in-law and uncle were still there, she endured it and said nothing.

Before her mother-in-law started to curse, Mrs. Yao called her to eat quickly, and after eating, she helped clean up the dishes and the kitchen to dispel her mother-in-law's anger.

Xingzi was probably in a bad mood and didn't respond at all.

After Grandfather Yao and Uncle Yao left, Mother Yao put her hands on her hips and cursed, "This is outrageous! What girl needs the elders to urge her to eat? If you don't want to eat, then don't eat!" After that, she locked the cupboard without saying a word.

In the room, Yao Xing's tears fell even more violently.

When the mother and daughter were alone, Yao Chunnuan asked about this matter, "Why is Xingzi so dissatisfied with me? Is she disgusted with me, her aunt, going back to her parents' home to eat for free?"

Yao's mother glared, "She dares?!"

In fact, Yao Chunnuan was quite puzzled. If she divorced and returned to her parents' home, it wouldn't bother the girl at all, right?

Yao Chunnuan didn't understand because she didn't hang out in the village, but she was different. She had several old sisters in the village, but she hadn't been around much recently because of family matters. She knew everything she needed to know.

"It's because of her fiancé, the Chen family. There have been rumors these past two days that they want to cancel the engagement."

Hearing about this family, Yao Chunnuan looked disgusted, "Why did you tell her about such a family?" Digging through the original owner's memory, Yao Chunnuan remembered that this family wanted to marry into her family two years ago, and the person to be married was not Yao Xing'er, but her!

Yao's mother naturally knew why her daughter looked so disgusted. Two years ago, the Chen family came to their house to sound out their intentions regarding their eldest son, but in Yao's mother's opinion, the eldest son of the Chen family was not worthy of her precious daughter, so she naturally refused outright.

When this family was mentioned, Yao's mother was equally surprised. "When the Chen family came to propose marriage, she was willing to do it herself. We tried to persuade her, but that damn girl was very stubborn and only wanted the Chen boy. What could we do?" Naturally, they asked for a higher betrothal gift. But at that time, their family was actively trying to influence the Wang family. The old woman in the Chen family must have been very eager to marry into their Wang family, so when faced with her exorbitant request, she actually gritted her teeth and agreed.

This situation was so unexpected that she was completely paralyzed. Then, seeing her granddaughter's shy face, she decided to ignore the affection between the man and the woman. That's how the matchmaking was established.

Yao Chunnuan came to her senses, "Is she blaming me for the Chen family wanting to cancel the engagement?"

Isn't it? Her eldest granddaughter's brain capacity was so small that Yao's mother was sure of it. "Don't pay attention to her. She is just a brainless person."

In another room, Sister Yao secretly buried two sweet potatoes for her while boiling water. When she gave the sweet potatoes to Yao Xing, Sister Yao was also puzzled, "What happened to you today? Were you bullied outside?"

Yao Xing'er didn't say anything, but it confirmed that she was being bullied outside. Sister Yao also knew that the gossips in the village hadn't been kind recently. She sighed and said, "You were being bullied outside, so why did you come back to vent your anger on your aunt?"

Hearing this, Yao Xing'er's eyes instantly turned red. "Even you protect her, grandma, great-grandma, you're all partial!" If it weren't for her, how could she have encountered all this recently! Isn't it said that if you marry a chicken, you follow the chicken; if you marry a dog, you follow the dog? Why can't she be like other aunts and never abandon their husband's family? She will only ruin their Yao family's reputation!

Yao Dasao was puzzled as to what was wrong with her and why she was arguing with her sister-in-law. "Just shut up." The two elders had been partial to each other for a long time.

"Don't try to compare yourself to your sister-in-law in every way; it's pointless." Ever since she came into the family, the sister-in-law had been pampered by the entire family, never allowed to do any heavy work. Back then, the Yao family had been hoping for her to marry into a wealthy family. Facts had proven that she was destined for that position. Even though she was down and out now, with her looks, she was sure to soar to fame again someday.

Hearing this, Yao Xing'er was very dissatisfied.

"Everyone has their own destiny, so don't be dissatisfied."

Yao Xing'er burst into tears, "Is there any mother like you? Constantly slandering your own daughter?"

Yao's wife sighed, "If you looked like your aunt, I wouldn't say anything." The Yao family members were all good-looking, and the aunt was the best, so there were always people willing to cover for her no matter what. Her daughter, Xingzi, was only fifteen years old and not bad-looking, more outstanding than the other girls in the village, but there was indeed a gap between her daughter's appearance and her aunt's.

But this stubborn and demanding personality is just like her aunt. It seems that she will have to go to her grandmother's house less often in the future. Finally, Yao Dasao shook her head and went back to the house to see her son.

Not long after, Uncle Yao informed her that the prison had been arranged and she could go visit the Wang family.

Before leaving, Yao's mother and sister-in-law busied themselves making a basket of long-lasting and filling sesame cakes. Some of the cakes were also chopped up with minced meat and beaten eggs to give them energy. Before leaving, they also stewed a large bowl of ginger soup to ward off the cold.

This time, her eldest cousin accompanied her. As Uncle Yao's eldest son, he was also intelligent and had been trained by Grandfather Yao and Uncle Yao as the leader of the younger generation of the Yao family. He was known for his smooth dealings, so it was perfect for him to accompany her and take care of things.

They set out early in the morning, riding the village donkey cart to the city. Along the way, curious women asked them where they were going. My eldest cousin took over and struck up a conversation with them. Before long, everyone on the donkey cart knew that Yao Chunnuan had prepared some food and was going to the prison to visit her ex-husband's family, the Wang family.

The villagers valued personal touch the most. If you could do that, the world would be less demanding. They seemed to immediately understand Yao Chunnuan's helplessness and dilemma, and some even praised her for her kindness and righteousness.

Yao Chunnuan pretended to be shy and accepted all the words of comfort and praise.

When they arrived in the city, the brother and sister went straight to the prison.

Because arrangements had been made in advance, the officers did not make things difficult for them. The leader simply pointed at someone and led them in.

Yao Chunnuan walked at the end, carrying the basket. The further she went in, the darker and damper the prison became. A musty smell filled the air, and she could even faintly hear the squeaking of some cute little creature! Yao Chunnuan was extremely grateful that her family had rescued her. She couldn't bear to be imprisoned in a place like this, surrounded by little cuties every day.

After a while of twists and turns, we finally arrived. The officer said, "Here, the man is, hurry up!"

"Thank you, big brother." The eldest cousin hurriedly thanked the official with a smile, gave Yao Chunnuan a wink, and then went out with the crowd, leaving the space for her. After they walked away, she heard her eldest cousin say that he had ordered some wine and dishes at the Mingyue Tavern.

This prison is divided into male and female prisons. She is now in the men's prison, where the male members of the Wang family are imprisoned.

The noise they made this time was quite loud, which naturally attracted the attention of the prisoners around them.

She had just put down the heavy bamboo basket when Wang Lang came out and looked at her coldly, "What are you doing here?"

Wang Lang's younger brother Wang Chao followed closely behind. Wang's father and eldest brother Wang were leaning against the wall, not moving, but also looking outside.

Yao Chunnuan glanced at the young man, whose handsome appearance could not be concealed even in his cold and desolate state, and sighed in her heart, how pitiful! In one day, an unexpected event had happened and the noble young man became a prisoner.

"Come and see you guys."

Wang Chao was a little bully with a hot temper. He immediately retorted, "Are you here to laugh at us?"

He had a deep grudge against his second sister-in-law. She'd divorced his second brother the moment their family fell on hard times, clearly desperate to sever ties with the Wang family. She was truly a sycophantic figure, completely unaware of how she'd managed to get his second brother to marry her in the first place! If the Wang family could survive this, she'd definitely learn the hard way that ruin was impossible! He thought bitterly.

Yao Chunnuan asked back, "What good does it have for me to watch you make fun of me? Do you think anyone can enter this prison without paying a fee?"

The dynasty choked.

Wang Lang frowned, "What exactly are you doing here?"

"After all, we were once husband and wife. This time I'm here mainly to bring you some food." As she said that, Yao Chunnuan squatted down, took out the cloth under the basket, handed it in and spread it on the ground, then took out the sesame cakes in the basket one by one and placed them on the cloth.

The aroma of sesame cakes filled the air, and Wang Chao felt hungry. The food in prison was almost as good as pig food, even worse than what the servants ate! He had eaten very little these days and had lost several pounds.

Wang Chao asked cautiously, "Are you so kind?"

"I can." She is the kind and beautiful little fairy!

Wang Chao was suspicious and didn't believe it.

"Take the things back." Wang Lang said lightly.

Wang Chao nodded, "Yes, we won't accept charity!"
