Seeing Chang Le's face turn bright red with embarrassment, Su Nan almost couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Even a princess who fears nothing can blush sometimes.
He told the shopkeeper, "Keep the firecrackers for us, we'll come back to buy them later when we have the money."
"Auntie, let's go. The person who bumped into you was a thief." Sui Sui stepped forward and took Chang Le's hand, leading her back.
Leaving the grocery store, Chang Le muttered to herself, "This is so embarrassing."
Seeing that they were almost home, Su Nan stopped keeping a close eye on the two of them and walked ahead so that Chang Le wouldn't see him smirking.
When Sui Sui saw his second uncle's shoulders shaking, he knew that his second uncle was holding back laughter.
He looked up and said earnestly, "Little aunt, Mother said the world is dangerous. You've finally seen it for yourself today. You'll have to be more careful when you go out in the future."
Chang Le: "..."
"I will take Jing'er with me when I go out from now on."
"No, it's safer for Auntie to stay in the palace since she's alright."
Sui Sui sighed and thought to herself, "My aunt is too naive. I'm so tired."
"Princess, why have you been gone for so long? If I didn't know the way, I would have gone out to look for you."
Before they even entered the gate, Jing'er ran out.
"Jing'er, give me the purse." Chang Le said, handing the pastry box in her hand to the gatekeeper.
Jing'er looked back and saw that Young Master Su was carrying several lanterns, and then she saw that Sui Sui's hands were empty and there was no sign of firecrackers. He was taking short steps to chase after Young Master Su.
"Princess, have you spent all of Young Master Su's money?" Jing'er said, taking out her purse.
"Yes, I've spent it all. Could you return a bag of silver to him later?" Chang Le took the purse and ran off.
"Princess, wait a minute!" Jing'er hurriedly chased after her.
Not long after Su Nan returned to the courtyard, Jing'er brought him a brand new purse. The purse was bulging, indicating that it contained a lot of silver.
"No need, it's just a little bit of silver, how could I ask the princess to repay it?" Su Nan refused.
Seeing that Su Nan refused to accept it no matter what, Jing'er had no choice but to take it back.
When Jiang Shuyue returned from the restaurant, she happened to see Zhen Jingxiu and Su Jin talking in front of the Jiang residence.
"Congratulations, Young Master Zhen! Congratulations, A-Jin! Now you should prepare well for the palace examination." Jiang Shuyue and Qiuju got off the carriage and congratulated the two of them.
"Thank you, Miss Jiang and Miss Qiuju." Zhen Jingxiu returned the greeting with a cupped hand.
"Sister." Su Jin smiled broadly, feeling like a gentle breeze was blowing. He could finally be his sister's support.
On this day, the Jiang residence was filled with joy, and the kitchen prepared a sumptuous feast.
Su Nan lit the firecrackers himself, while Chang Le and Sui Sui covered their ears and played around under the eaves.
Jiang Shuyue instructed Qiuju to distribute reward money to all the maids and servants in the mansion. Even Jing'er and several palace maids received reward money, and the mansion was filled with a joyful atmosphere.
After dinner, Su Jin went back to his room to write a letter to his parents, while Sui Sui pestered Su Nan to write a letter to Shui Sheng with him.
Jiang Shuyue went back to her room, closed the door, and started organizing the recipes.
The restaurant had just posted the opening announcement today, and several people had already booked banquets. The chefs at Juxian Pavilion were considered very good in the capital, but compared to the wide variety of modern cuisine, Jiang Shuyue felt they were still somewhat lacking.
The restaurants will be busy preparing for the "Top Scholar Banquet" for at least a month now, and the rabbits brought back by the farmers in the village are in their breeding season.
Jiang Shuyue estimated that the recipe for meat rabbit could be released around the Chinese New Year.
She has compiled several ways to eat rabbit, including braised rabbit, spicy dry pot rabbit, cold rabbit, and barbecued rabbit.
"Miss, someone from the palace has arrived." Jiang Shuyue had just finished organizing the recipe for braised pork when she heard Qiuju calling from outside the door.
Jiang Shuyue quickly put down her charcoal pencil and went out. "Someone from the palace has come to pick up Chang Le and Sui Sui. I'm going to give Sui Sui a few words of advice."
Qiuju had long ago prepared her annual change of clothes.
As soon as I stepped out of the courtyard, I saw Su Nan leading Sui Sui over.
Upon seeing Jiang Shuyue, Su Nan couldn't wait to ask, "Sister, how many days will Sui Sui stay in the palace?"
"Two days."
Before Jiang Shuyue could answer, Sui Sui raised her little face and replied.
"Why two days?" Jiang Shuyue squatted down and gently stroked her son's face as she asked.
"Because on the third day I will miss my mother, uncle and Uncle Nangong, I will miss them so much." Sui Sui said, wrapping her arms around her mother's neck.
Jiang Shuyue's heart melted instantly; her son was like a warm cotton-padded jacket to her heart.
Sui Sui rubbed her little face against her mother's and asked, "Mommy, when is Uncle Nangong coming back? I haven't seen him for days."
Jiang Shuyue smiled and said, "Uncle Nangong is very busy. You'll be able to see him when you come back."
Even after sending Chang Le and Sui Sui out of the Jiang residence, Jiang Shuyue did not tell her son that he was allowed to stay in the palace for a few days.
Inside the palace, the Empress Dowager and Princess Yonghe were busy preparing for the arrival of Sui Sui in Cining Palace.
"Yonghe, is Sui Sui really coming this time?"
"Probably. If Chang Le doesn't return today, I'll personally go out of the palace to fetch her later." Yong He originally wanted to say that if Chang Le broke her promise again, she would no longer stop her mother from arranging a tutor for her.
Yonghe couldn't bear to think of his adorable younger sister.
"Mother, Sui Sui and I are back." Chang Le's voice came before she even entered the house.
"Sui Sui, my eldest grandson has finally arrived!" The Empress Dowager could not contain her excitement and hurriedly went out to greet him.
"May Your Majesty rest in peace."
"Hey! Don't kneel."
Just as Sui Sui was about to perform the kneeling ceremony, the Empress Dowager reacted swiftly and reached out to pull the little girl into her arms.
"Grandmother, you look so beautiful." Sui Sui flashed her signature smile, her gaze fixed on the Empress Dowager's face.
